This book (hardcover) is part of the TREDITION CLASSICS. It
contains classical literature works from over two thousand years.
Most of these titles have been out of print and off the bookstore
shelves for decades. The book series is intended to preserve the
cultural legacy and to promote the timeless works of classical
literature. Readers of a TREDITION CLASSICS book support the
mission to save many of the amazing works of world literature from
oblivion. With this series, tredition intends to make thousands of
international literature classics available in printed format again
- worldwide.
This book covers water waves, surf zone hydrodynamics, tides in
oceans and estuaries, storm surges, estuarine mixing, basic
sediment transport, coastal morphodynamics and coastal groundwater
dynamics. It is an introductory treatment, suitable for a first
course in coastal and estuarine processes for earth scientists or
engineers. Yet, there are substantial amounts of new material that
are included, such as the explicit, analytical treatment of
transient, forced long waves. Inclusion of this material will in
turn strongly enhance the introductory treatment of tsunami, storm
surges and surf beat. The treatment of sine wave theory emphasizes
expressions which are explicit in the water depth h (using koh
instead of kh) so that they can easily be differentiated or
integrated with respect to h. This is a major pedagogical advantage
because of the enhanced transparency. The treatment of turbulent
mixing includes finite mixing length effects which provide an
explanation for differential diffusion of different sediment sizes
in suspension. The effects of acceleration skewness and boundary
layer streaming are also included in the basic sediment transport
models. The inclusion of beach groundwater dynamics - including the
mechanisms by which waves as well as tides drive groundwater motion
- provides a link between the previously unconnected fields of
coastal hydraulics and regional groundwater modeling.Serving as a
good reference book, it is fully indexed and comprehensively cross
referenced. Abundant references to more detailed texts are also
provided.
Peter has published his private and personal thoughts about God's
grace and love to his own soul. It is often said that dynamite
comes in small packages. This little book fulfills that adage. It
will prove to be a living explosion of relevant and practical
strength and encouragement from the Source of all wisdom, Jesus
Christ, as it flows into your soul and spirit. You will touch God's
heart of love as you read Peter's first hand responses to God's
Loving instructions and promptings during his early morning quiet
times with the Lord. His deeply personal and practical commitment
to, and his undeniable love for God, will challenge you to walk the
walk with him. When you know the story of God's love in his life,
you will understand more fully why Peter often says his greatest
desire is to finish his race strong for the sake of Christ. His
passionate prayer is to live to see thousands of people, like you
and me, experience the healing, hope and wholeness of spirit, soul
and body, that he received through being committed to Christ.

This book is intended as a useful handbook for professionals and
researchers in the areas of Physical Oceanography, Marine Geology,
Coastal Geomorphology and Coastal Engineering and as a text for
graduate students in these fields. With its emphasis on boundary
layer flow and basic sediment transport modelling, it is meant to
help fill the gap between general hydrodynamic texts and
descriptive texts on marine and coastal sedimentary processes. The
book commences with a review of coastal bottom boundary layer flows
including the boundary layer interaction between waves and steady
currents. The concept of eddy viscosity for these flows is
discussed in depth because of its relation to sediment diffusivity.
The quasi-steady processes of sediment transport over flat beds are
discussed. Small scale coastal bedforms and the corresponding
hydraulic roughness are described. The motion of suspended sand
particles is studied in detail with emphasis on the possible
suspension maintaining mechanisms in coastal flows. Sediment pickup
functions are provided for unsteady flows. A new combined
convection-diffusion model is provided for suspended sediment
distributions. Different methods of sediment transport model
building are presented together with some classical models.

This book presents the outcomes of the special sessions of the 16th
International Conference on Distributed Computing and Artificial
Intelligence 2019, a forum that brought together ideas, projects
and lessons associated with distributed computing and artificial
intelligence, and their applications in various areas. Artificial
intelligence is currently transforming our society. Its application
in distributed environments, such as the internet, electronic
commerce, environmental monitoring, mobile communications, wireless
devices, and distributed computing, to name but a few, is
continuously increasing, making it an element of high added value
and tremendous potential. These technologies are changing
constantly as a result of the extensive research and technical
efforts being pursued at universities and businesses alike. The
exchange of ideas between scientists and technicians from both the
academic and industrial sectors is essential to facilitating the
development of systems that can meet the ever-growing demands of
today's society. This year's technical program was characterized by
high quality and diversity, with contributions in both
well-established and evolving areas of research. More than 120
papers were submitted to the main and special sessions tracks from
over 20 different countries (Algeria, Angola, Austria, Brazil,
Colombia, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands,
Oman, Poland, Portugal, South Korea, Spain, Thailand, Tunisia, the
United Kingdom and United States), representing a truly "wide area
network" of research activity. The symposium was jointly organized
by the Osaka Institute of Technology and the University of
Salamanca. This year's event was held in Avila, Spain, from 26th to
28th June, 2019. The authors wish to thank the sponsors: the IEEE
Systems Man and Cybernetics Society, Spain Section Chapter and the
IEEE Spain Section (Technical Co-Sponsor), IBM, Indra, Viewnext,
Global Exchange, AEPIA, APPIA and AIR institute.
Winner: Cheryl Frank Memorial Prize for innovative writing on
critical realism This new textbook offers a succinct yet broad
introduction to critical realism, an increasingly popular approach
to the philosophy of science that provides a holistic alternative
to both positivism and postmodernism. This text sets out the
central concepts, arguments and understandings in critical realism
and relates them to social scientific practice. In addition to
answering the question 'what is critical realism?', the authors
consider critical realism in light of two crucial themes in
contemporary society - neoliberalism and climate change - which run
as common threads throughout the chapters. While some introductions
to the topic focus exclusively on the work of Roy Bhaskar -
critical realism's best-known proponent - this text covers a much
wider range of thinkers and social researchers, and also features
Key Concept boxes and CR in Action boxes throughout to aid the
reader through this complex yet rewarding subject. This text is the
perfect entry point for all those studying critical realism for the
first time, or for those seeking to re-familiarise themselves with
this approach. Whether you're studying critical realism as part of
a broader course on the philosophy of science or seeking to apply
critical realist methods to a particular research project, this
book is essential reading for the social sciences, humanities and
beyond.

The "race" question has been raging all over the world since the
early days of the human, but nowhere else has the debate taken
dramatic proportions as in South Africa in the 20th century. A
cooking pot of peoples, ethnic groups, languages, tribes and
cultures, South Africa was a perfect test bed for the 'race'
question, fired up by the ambers of colonialism. How could the
issue be resolved? A certain Peter Nielsen in his manuscript "The
Black Man Place in South Africa" gives a fascinating answer_a
century ago. A treatise on the so-called "Native Question" of the
times, this forgotten manuscript makes fascinating reading for
anyone. Whatever your interest, this book will definitely inform
your perspective; find out for yourself. "CAPTIVATING AND
FASCINATING" Simon Thorpe
