Richard L Amoroso, Louis H. Kauffman, Peter Rowlands
R3,966 Discovery Miles 39 660 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

There has not been a scientific revolution for about 100 years. One seems imminent, as QED has recently been violated at the Sigma-6 level. Kuhn, in 'The Structure of Scientific Revolutions', used Wittgenstein's famous duck-rabbit optical illusion to demonstrate how bias in interpretation causes scientists to see the same information in radically different manners, which is likely to have delayed the pending paradigm shift. Jean-Pierre Vigier, continually labeled l'heretique de la physique and l'eternel resistant in French media, remains a pillar of modern mathematical physics. 'Heretical' works of Vigier related to extended electromagnetic theory incorporating photon mass and a longitudinal B(3) EM field, gravity, quantum theory, large-scale additional dimensions, the Dirac polarized vacuum and many more related issues are deemed by his followers to be essential to the evolution of physics. The phrase 'Lives On' was chosen in the title of this volume to claim ignored portions of his work are relevant to implementing the Paradigm Shift to an Einsteinian Unified Field Theory. Specifically, chapters about the Dirac Hypertube, Tight-Bound States and Spacetime programming provide required insights into crossing the dimensional barrier and 'proving' parts of M-Theoretic dimensionality. As happens periodically in the history of science, we live in a climate where coloring outside-the-box can have severe myopic consequences such as difficulties in passing PhD exams, challenges in grant approval or problems in receiving tenure. Since there is no conflict with Gauge Theory, once realized, many chapters in this important volume will aid in facilitating progress in physics beyond the Standard Model.

Over the Brink and Back (Paperback): Peter Rowlands Over the Brink and Back (Paperback)
Peter Rowlands
R280 Discovery Miles 2 800 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Many of us who participate in adventure sports have wondered: "What if the worst really happened? What if everything I have held so dear were to be taken away in the blink of an eye: my way of living, my job, my social life ... everything!?" An inspiring tale of a remarkable recovery from a hugely challenging, life-threatening accident. In 2013 he was caught in an avalanche which swept him over a cliff. Despite falling 140 metres and suffering serious brain injuries he survived. His prognosis was that in time he might be able to communicate by blinking. Nine years later he has made a remarkable recovery and though sheer determination recovered his fitness levels. Pete does have speech problems and an odd gait but he has gone on to find new challenges. He has recently cycled the equivalent distance to once around the equator and continues to live life to the full.

Richard L Amoroso, Gianni Albertini, Louis H. Kauffman, Peter Rowlands
R6,291 Discovery Miles 62 910 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This volume, recording the 10th international symposium honoring noted French mathematical physicist Jean-Pierre Vigier surveys and continues to develop Unified Field Mechanics (UFM) from the perspective of Multiverse cosmology and Topological Field Theory. UFM represents a developing paradigm shift with many new parameters extending the Standard Model to a 3rd regime of Natural Science beyond Quantum Mechanics. UFM is now experimentally testable, thus putatively able to demonstrate the existence of large-scale additional dimensionality (LSXD), test for QED violating phenomena and surmount the quantum uncertainty principle leading to a new 'Age of Discovery' paling all prior ages in the historical progression: Classical Mechanics (3D) to Quantum Mechanics (4D) and now to the birth of the 3rd regime of UFM in additional dimensionality correlating with M-Theory. Many still consider the Planck-scale as the 'basement of reality'. This could only be considered true under the limitations of the Standard Model. As we methodically enter the new regime a profound understanding of the multiverse and additional dimensionality beckons.

Newton - Innovation And Controversy (Hardcover): Peter Rowlands Newton - Innovation And Controversy (Hardcover)
Peter Rowlands
R3,138 Discovery Miles 31 380 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Unique among celebrated scientists, Newton was equally gifted at theoretical physics, experimental physics and pure mathematics. He was also exceptional in another, less well-recognised sense. No one has come near to equalling his extraordinary analytical power.Analytically-derived truths are controversial because such truths can only be established by extended experimental verification or by their success in generating further truths by systematic development. While Newton's optics was ultimately established by the first method and his theory of gravity by the second, much of his work on other subjects, though equally powerful and innovative, has never been totally established as part of this analytical context. This book discusses why the innovations matter today and why they were, and sometimes still are, controversial.Published as the third of a three-part set for Newtonian scholars, historians of science, philosophers of science and others interested in Newtonian physics. All Titles: 1.Newton and Modern Physics 2.Newton and the Great World System 3.Newton - Innovation and Controversy

Peter Rowlands
R3,092 Discovery Miles 30 920 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Mathematics is, in many ways, the most generic and abstract of all systems of human thought. Once Newton found he could describe dynamics and planetary motions using purely mathematical laws and deductive processes, he understood that there was no limit to what else could be explained - given time and ingenuity every aspect of Nature would find its mathematical roots. Newton himself repeatedly stated how aspects of chemistry, biology and even human thought could be accessed by his method. He also acknowledged how immense the task would be, involving many contributors over many centuries, however once the system was in place, it could be extended indefinitely. Although not fully understood during his lifetime, the Newtonian method has since been applied to many subjects outside of physics, including chemistry, physiology and philosophy. This book analyses the Newtonian method and demonstrates how it represents the very roots of our understanding of the great world system we live in today. This unique book is published as the second of a three-part set for Newtonian scholars, historians of science, philosophers of science and others interested in Newtonian physics. All Titles: 1.Newton and Modern Physics 2.Newton and the Great World System 3.Newton - Innovation and Controversy

Newton And Modern Physics (Hardcover): Peter Rowlands Newton And Modern Physics (Hardcover)
Peter Rowlands
R2,956 Discovery Miles 29 560 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This book looks at how Newton's theories can be linked to modern day problems and solutions in physics. Newton created an abstract system of theorizing which has been applied to all aspects of the physical world, however he had difficulties in persuading his contemporaries of its unique merits. A detailed study of Newton's writings, published and unpublished, suggests that he had an almost archetypally powerful mode of thinking guaranteed to produce 'correct' results even in areas of physics where systematic study only began long after his time. Newton and Modern Physics investigates this phenomenon, looking at examples of where Newton's principles have relevance to modern day thinking - the study of Newton's work in both seventeenth century and present-day contexts helps to enhance our understanding of both. This unique book is published as the first of a three-part set for Newtonian scholars, historians of science, philosophers of science and others interested in Newtonian physics. All Titles: 1.Newton and Modern Physics 2.Newton and the Great World System 3.Newton - Innovation and Controversy

Unified Field Mechanics: Natural Science Beyond The Veil Of Spacetime - Proceedings Of The Ix Symposium Honoring Noted French Mathematical Physicist Jean-pierre Vigier (Hardcover)
Richard L Amoroso, Louis H. Kauffman, Peter Rowlands
R6,032 Discovery Miles 60 320 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Unified Field Mechanics, the topic of the 9th international symposium honoring noted French mathematical physicist Jean-Pierre Vigier cannot be considered highly speculative as a myopic critic might surmise. The 8th Vigier Symposium proceedings 'The Physics of Reality' should in fact be touted as a companion volume because of its dramatic theoretical Field Mechanics in additional dimensionality. Many still consider the Planck-scale zero-point field stochastic quantum foam as the 'basement of reality'. This could only be considered true under the limitations of the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum theory. As we enter the next regime of Unified Field Mechanics we now know that the energy-dependent Einstein-Minkowski manifold called spacetime has a finite radius beyond which a large-scale multiverse beckons. So far a battery of 14 experiments has been designed to falsify the model. When the 1st is successfully performed, a revolution in Natural Science will occur! This volume strengthens and expands the theoretical and experimental basis for that immanent new age.

How Schrodinger's Cat Escaped The Box (Paperback): Peter Rowlands How Schrodinger's Cat Escaped The Box (Paperback)
Peter Rowlands
R1,048 Discovery Miles 10 480 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This book attempts to explain the core of physics, the origin of everything and anything. It explains why physics at the most fundamental level, and especially quantum mechanics, has moved away from naive realism towards abstraction, and how this means that we can begin to answer some of the most fundamental questions which trouble us all, about space, time, matter, etc. It provides an original approach based on symmetry which will be of interest to professionals as well as lay people. In the book, virtually no prior knowledge is assumed, but the readers are allowed to participate in a discussion of very deep ideas. Throughout the book, the readers are guided through some important ideas which need to be explained mathematically. The key fact is that the mathematics is not about calculation but about concepts. Much of it can be simplified using coloured text and diagrams. This means that ideas which are important to everyone who wants to know how the universe is structured are not glossed over as being too difficult for anybody but the experts. This book is written for a wide audience. Experts will gain a great deal, but so will lay readers. This would be an ideal book for students to read before progressing to another book by the author, The Foundations of Physical Law.

Foundations Of Physical Law, The (Hardcover): Peter Rowlands Foundations Of Physical Law, The (Hardcover)
Peter Rowlands
R2,614 Discovery Miles 26 140 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The book originated in a series of lectures given at Liverpool in 2013 to a group that included postgraduate and undergraduate students and staff of the Physics Department. They followed from two very successful lectures given to the undergraduate Physical Society. It seemed that there was a very large interest among the students in investigating the foundations of physics in a way that was never done in physics courses, and was not available in books or other outlets. However, the idea was to create a framework in which students (and interested staff) could develop their own thinking relative to the ideas in the lectures. So it was important to create both conceptual and mathematical structures on the issues that are important at this level. The book has the right sort of technical content to allow for this development, but doesn't lose itself in excessive details. The ideal use for this book would be on postgraduate courses where students would be encouraged to think about the foundations in a way that is well beyond the superficial. However, a course on aspects of this material would also be valuable at the undergraduate level, where students could be stimulated into believing that creative thinking could solve the problems that emerge when we confront foundational problems.

Richard L Amoroso, Louis H. Kauffman, Peter Rowlands
R5,422 Discovery Miles 54 220 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

A truly Galilean-class volume, this book introduces a new method in theory formation, completing the tools of epistemology. It covers a broad spectrum of theoretical and mathematical physics by researchers from over 20 nations from four continents. Like Vigier himself, the Vigier symposia are noted for addressing avant-garde, cutting-edge topics in contemporary physics. Among the six proceedings honoring J.-P. Vigier, this is perhaps the most exciting one as several important breakthroughs are introduced for the first time. The most interesting breakthrough in view of the recent NIST experimental violations of QED is a continuation of the pioneering work by Vigier on tight bound states in hydrogen. The new experimental protocol described not only promises empirical proof of large-scale extra dimensions in conjunction with avenues for testing string theory, but also implies the birth of the field of unified field mechanics, ushering in a new age of discovery. Work on quantum computing redefines the qubit in a manner that the uncertainty principle may be routinely violated. Other breakthroughs occur in the utility of quaternion algebra in extending our understanding of the nature of the fermionic singularity or point particle. There are several other discoveries of equal magnitude, making this volume a must-have acquisition for the library of any serious forward-looking researchers.

E. W. Hornung - The Emergence of a Popular Author, 1866-1898 (Hardcover): Peter Rowland E. W. Hornung - The Emergence of a Popular Author, 1866-1898 (Hardcover)
Peter Rowland
R4,265 Discovery Miles 42 650 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

As this dynamic biography reveals, the writer Ernest William Hornung (1866 - 1921) became a household name in the 1890s. Scion of a wealthy Yorkshire family, he was short-sighted and slight and suffered from severe asthma. Returning home in high spirits from medical treatment in Australia in 1886, he was devastated to find that the family fortunes had collapsed. Already aware that he had a brilliant knack with words, Hornung managed to support himself by his pen alone, contributing short stories to children's magazines, newspapers, and monthly periodicals. His first published novel proved a sensational best-seller. Peter Rowland's superb literary biography traces Hornung's rise to fame and fortune, as the writer deftly turned his hand to comedy, romance, and drama. In the process, the book untangles the intricate literary network of Victorian London and Hornung's relationships with some of its leading figures, including his brother-in-law Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's, and their collaborative ventures.

Mr Hornung's Three Goddesses - a Victorian Novelist at Work (Paperback): Peter Rowland Mr Hornung's Three Goddesses - a Victorian Novelist at Work (Paperback)
Peter Rowland
R311 Discovery Miles 3 110 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

So far as it goes, Goddesses Three is an absorbing study of the Pontifex family, and (ultimately) of Anglo-Portuguese relations. E.W. Hornung apparently began writing this book in 1894 but put it aside after completing eleven chapters. Set primarily in an English Rectory, it is very much a work in progress, written partly in pencil and partly in ink, and incorporating a vast number of revisions. In addition to deciphering 99% of the manuscript, and producing an edited text for the general reader, the editor has examined it on a chapter-by-chapter basis. This results in a fuller notion of how the story was being shaped and the occasional problems encountered - and pinpoints Hornung's consequent changes and instructions to himself. We are, as it were, looking over his shoulder for the whole time, and gain (as a result) a fascinating insight into how a Victorian novel took shape.

Stingaree Rides Again (Paperback): Peter Rowland, E. W Hornung Stingaree Rides Again (Paperback)
Peter Rowland, E. W Hornung
R237 Discovery Miles 2 370 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Stingaree's adventures have long delighted thousands of readers. He is a stylish bushranger, his English origins cloaked in mystery, who operates in New South Wales. He is, after Raffles, the most famous character that E.W. Hornung (1866-1921) ever created. Virtually unknown, however, is the fact that twelve years after the original stories appeared Hornung started to write a fresh batch of tales, relating Stingaree's subsequent history. For various reasons, the project was abandoned but the batch of stories that he completed are now brought together in book-form for the very first time. Peter Rowland is a well-known historian and biographer. He recently transcribed and edited two of Hornung's unfinished novels, His Brother's Blood and The Graven Image, and compiled a fresh collection of Hornung short stories, Tall Tales and short'uns. A revised and much-expanded edition of his 1999 biography of Hornung will appear shortly. (For more information, see www.peterrowland.org.uk).
