Geschichte als Abfolge von Massentötungen aller Art und – im Gegensatz dazu – Geschichte als Konzert von leisen Stimmen, die den Frieden beschwören und Vernunft anmahnen: das sind zwei Leitmotive des Buches, die in verschiedenen Inhaltsvariationen thematisiert werden. Dabei finden die grauenhaften Tatsachen der Geschichte ebenso Berücksichtigung wie die kognitiv-emotionale Schwierigkeit, im historisch-politischen Schlachthaus-Geschehen (Kriege, Völkermorde) nicht die Augen zu verschließen, sondern vielmehr standzuhalten und existenziell für eine bessere Welt einzutreten. Die veränderte weltpolitische Konstellation entwertet die früheren Reflexionen und Recherchen nicht, sondern taucht die Befunde in ein noch grelleres Licht. Das Buch wendet sich nicht nur an Personen, die Geschichte professionell erarbeiten und vermitteln, sondern an alle, die im Verhältnis zur Geschichte, wie es medienwirksam präsentiert und zelebriert wird, Probleme sehen.

Das Buch versteht sich als kritische Fortsetzung und Erweiterung der Kulturtheorie Freuds, die den unterdruckten Aggressionstrieb fur das "Unbehagen in der Kultur" verantwortlich macht. Es verweist daruber hinaus mit zahlreichen kulturgeschichtlichen Belegen auf eine eklatante Lucke in der mentalitats-, real- und psychohistorischen Forschung, die bisher keinen Sinn fur das Thema einer historisch-politischen Trauer entwickelt hat - von sporadischen Ausnahmen abgesehen. In the past, it was customary for both national and international companies to provide different kinds of occupational pension schemes for employees as an additional incentive. Unlike US and Swiss companies, German corporations retained the money collected from occupational pension schemes in their companies (Direktzusage) in order to benefit from these low-cost internal funds instead of investing them in external funds. Rating aspects, the increasing internationalisation of the capital markets and Basel II are forcing INFICON GmbH to reduce its balance sheet by outsourcing pension reserves. Anglo-Saxon dominated rating agencies, in particular, are still extremely critical about pension reserves and treat them as "real" debt capital. In addition, the EU Regulation 1606/2002 stipulates that as of 2005 all capital market-orientated corporations with registered offices in EU Member States will have to draw up their group statements in accordance with International Accounting Standards. Furthermore, these long-term contracts are increasingly imposing a burden on German companies as human life expectancy has constantly been rising, and business growth rates have been decreasing. Moreover, companies were forced to change their policy because of the pressure resulting from the globalisation of fiscal laws for multinational corporations. A management recommendation will be given in this master thesis, which will be based on different means of outsourcing pension liabilities. This thesis analyses the internationalisation process of the national image of "Made in Germany" with particular regard to Western Australia. The thesis starts with an assessment of recent developments in the global business environment before going on to highlight internationalisation strategies in general and the specific impact of culture on internationalisation. Subsequently, the paper focuses on the German context by presenting issues associated with the identity commonly attributed to Germans, including national identity, German culture, and German management styles and principles. An evaluation of the "country-of-origin" phenomenon, with a specific look at the case of "Made in Germany," and an assessment of German companies in the international arena conclude the section on the German context. A further focus of the thesis is the connection between Germany and Australia, specifically the attractiveness of the Western Australian market and German business presence in Australia. The method of research consists of two major parts: a theoretical framework and a empirical analysis. The theoretical framework is based on a study of literature and provides the foundation necessary for the empirical analysis. The empirical analysis consists of the collection of primary data by means of a questionnaire and the statistical interpretation thereof. The questionnaire was specifically compiled for this thesis.
