This book presents current trends and developments in the rapidly
growing field of biomimetics. It takes an application-oriented
approach to reflect the interdisciplinary nature of this field:

contribute to this book by describing and presenting
state-of-the-art experiments and practical developments. A strong
emphasis is put on the various possibility to apply biomimetics in
tissue engineering, regenerative surgery, neurosurgery for clinical

The late 16th century and the first half of the 17th century saw a
final resurgence of the concept of Fortuna. Shortly thereafter,
this goddess of chance and luck, who had survived for millennia,
rapidly lost her cultural and intellectual relevance. This volume
explores the late heyday and subsequent erasure of Fortuna. It
examines vernacular traditions and confessional differences,
analyses how the iconography and semantics of Fortuna motifs
transformed, and traces the rise of complementary concepts such as
those of probability, risk, fate and contingency. Thus, a
multidisciplinary team of contributors sheds light on the
surprising ways in which the end of Fortuna intersected with the
rise of modernity.

Doch was genau ist
Since 1st January 1989 Switzerland has a new International
Arbitration Act, in the form of Chapter Twelve of the Federal
Statute on Private International Law (PILS). In the German version
of the "Basler Kommentar" on the PILS published in 1996,
experienced Swiss arbitration practitioners gave a detailed
commentary of the provisions on international arbitration. This
commentary is now available in an English translation based on
drafts by Stephen V. Berti. The book contains a comprehensive,
updated introduction to international arbitration by Marc Blessing,
followed by: the commentary of articles 176 - 194 PILS by Felix R.
Ehrat (article 176); Robert Briner (article 177); Werner Wenger
(articles 178 and 186); Wolfgang Peter and Thomas Legler (article
179); Wolfgang Peter and Caroline Freymond (article 180); Nedim
Peter Vogt (article 181); Michael E. Schneider (articles 182 and
184); Stephen V. Berti (articles 183, 185 and 193); Pierre A.
Karrer (article 187); Markus Wirth (articles 188 and 189); Stephen
V. Berti and Anton K. Schnyder (articles 190 and 191); and Paolo
Michele Patocchi and Cesare Jermini (articles 192 and 194). The
work provides an in-depth analysis of the provisions of the Swiss
International Arbitration Act, and explains how they became law and
how they have been interpreted in practice during the first few
years since they came into force.

Career Wisdom for College Students is a career advice book for
those who need it most - college students facing monumental
decisions about their future but who may not have all the
information they need. Offering insights readers won't get in
class, on the Internet, or from their parents, expert author Peter
Vogt guides college students through the process of career
preparation. While many books exist to aid the first-time jobs
seeker or the recent college graduate, few offer help during the
formative time when a major is chosen, an initial career path is
charted, and internship and work experience opportunities abound.
Filling this niche, this practical book consists of more than 60
advice articles separated into four major sections: ""Take A Look
Around - A Real Look Around,"" ""Be Careful What You Think You
Know,"" ""Build Your Skills and Experience Through Hands-on
Activities,"" and ""Land the Job You Really Want."" An epilogue
offers advice on getting the most out of the campus career
counselor, and an appendix suggests helpful resources for further
research or career exploration. Chapters include: What Are You Good
At? Ask Someone Else! You Can Make a Career Out of Almost Anything;
Career Decision-Making Traps to Avoid; Money, Status, and Power
Aren't the Only Forms of Pay; Experience Isn't Optional; It's
Essential; Don't Take Your Technology Skills for Granted;
Introverts Can Network Too; and ""Out-research"" Your Competitors,
Win the Job.
