Dr. Michael Petrillo met the challenge of difficult economic times
with education, determination, and personal goal-setting. He
achieved his objectives by becoming a pastor, a psychotherapist, a
mentor, coach, hypnotherapist, and muse. Now, he offers his most
powerful tools to help you achieve your own success. In While I Was
Musing, the Fires Burned, Dr. Petrillo examines the healing power
of meditation, musing, and wholeness to make his case for our inner
healing power. By learning how to channel energy through positive
beliefs and practices, soul-searching, and meditation, Dr. Petrillo
shows you how to inspire your mind's inner biological system to
heal, repair, and regenerate. He explores the impact that food has
on your physical and mental health. By improving your diet and
using many of the noninvasive techniques outlined in the book, you
can maximize your health and engage the internal healing system in
your body, mind, and soul. Michael teaches how to change attitudes
by tapping into our center for profound change in the body, the
mind, and the spirit. Throughout his own personal journey to
holistic health, he has traveled to many parts of the world to
learn healing techniques-and he shares the best of his experiences
with you here, in While I Was Musing, the Fires Burned.

This book collects a high-quality selection of contemporary
research and case studies on the complexity resulting from
human/reliability management in industrial plants and critical
infrastructures. It includes: Human-error management
issues-considering how to reduce human errors as much as possible.
Reliability management issues-considering the ability of a system
or component to function under certain conditions for a specified
period of time. Thus, the book analyses globally the problem
regarding the human and reliability management to reduce human
errors as much as possible and to ensure safety and security in
critical infrastructures. Accidents continue to be the major
concern in "critical infrastructures", and human factors have been
proved to be the prime causes to accidents. Clearly, human dynamics
are a challenging management function to guarantee reliability,
safety and costs reduction in critical infrastructures. The book is
enriched by figures, examples and extensive case studies and is a
valuable reference resource for those with involved in disaster and
emergency planning as well as researchers interested both in
theoretical and practical aspects.
This book focuses on the role of networking, cooperation and
partnership in destination management in response to the changing
environment of the tourism industry.Firms and institutions are
nowadays required to implement drastic management changes: they
must adopt a systemic approach and become actively involved in
formal and informal networks in order to increase efficiency and
product quality, to gain a sustainable edge and face the
competitive context. The work is dedicated to deepening the topics
of the "Networking and Tourism Local System" session of the 12th
ATLAS 2004 Annual Conference, "Networking & Partnership in
Destination Development & Management," held in Naples. From a
theoretical point of view, the papers included herein relate to two
macro reference areas: applied economics and managerial sciences.
The analysis range from national to local levels and focus on
strategies, policies, and project experiences. Several cases from
different areas (Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia,
Portugal, Spain, Sweden) are examined and provide features and
issues that can be applied beyond the cultural and economic
contexts.
Women, Trauma, and Journeys towards Desistance: Navigating the
Labyrinth provides an examination of women's desistance from crime
from a gender-responsive, trauma-informed perspective. The book is
based on the reflections of fifty-six women over a three-year
period as they transition from custody to the community. With the
women, the author examines how experiences of trauma,
victimisation, and intersectional oppression constrain access to
traditional desistance supporting processes, including supportive
relationships, identity construction, the exercise of agency, and
engagement with treatment and interventions, reframing these
processes from trauma-informed perspective. The book joins together
the women's insights and experiences with principles of
gender-responsive, trauma-informed principles in a framework
through which criminal justice practitioners can support women in
their efforts to leave crime behind. The framework for practice is
a fusion of concepts from desistance theory, principles of
gender-responsivity, and trauma-informed practice designed to help
women understand the root causes of the problems they face in the
present whilst building on their resilience and strengths to
achieve their goals for their futures. This book is ideal reading
for scholars and students of criminology and criminal justice,
particularly rehabilitation, gender and crime, and feminist
criminology. It will also be of interest to academics and
practitioners of forensic psychology and social work, as well as
probation officers, social workers and prison officers.
This book describes the global legal framework for safeguarding the
"Intangible Cultural Heritage" - as defined by the UNESCO
Convention in 2003 - and analyses its use in selected countries in
the Americas, Asia, Africa and Europe. Each of the contributions
has been prepared by high profile experts and strategically
addresses countries that are representative for their corresponding
area. Our understanding of the term "Cultural Heritage" has changed
considerably over the past few decades, and it is becoming
increasingly clear that the concept also includes traditions and
living expressions that we inherit from our ancestors and pass on
to our descendants. UNESCO has recognised and responded to this
change of perspective, creating through the 2003 Convention an
international instrument for safeguarding the "Intangible Cultural
Heritage", a notion including oral traditions, performing arts,
social practices, rituals, festive events, knowledge and practices
concerning nature and the universe, as well as the knowledge and
skills needed to produce traditional crafts. New values, practices
and heritages were recognized - from the ancient African rituals to
the Mexican Mariachi musical expression to the Brazilian Samba and
the Mediterranean Diet - all of which convey strong social and
cultural meaning for their community's identity. Intangible
Cultural Heritage is a growing, relatively recent field of study
and also an emblem of the dialogue between distant populations with
different cultures, which is the reason why a comparative approach
is the most appropriate basis for conducting an analysis of how the
contracting states to the Convention live up to their commitments
through national safeguarding measures and enhancement policies or
through international cooperation projects.
