Origins and Redemption by Dr. Francis Humphrey hits the "sweet spot" for books discussing the creation versus evolution issue. Dr. Humphrey has written a book that is broad and deep - but not too deep. Deep enough that the scientific credibility of the Genesis account of creation as plainly read is clearly established and the implausibility of the evolutionary account is equally clearly established but not so deep as to be inaccessible to the average reader. Dr. Humphrey discusses the creation-evolution issue across a wide range of scientific disciplines and does not shy away from the issues that are difficult for creationists. Each area is well-researched and extensive references enable the reader to pursue additional research in areas of particular interest where additional depth is desired. After all this, he applies the same analytic rigour to the historicity of the resurrection and, therefore, to our redemption that is found in Jesus Christ, which is the second "book-end" in the title of the book. This is a "must-have" book for all church libraries and should be required reading for all Senior High Sunday School classes/Youth Groups. It would make an excellent study guide/discussion focus for College and Careers groups and Adult/Small groups. About the Author: Francis Humphrey holds a B.A. (Bishop's University), a Dip.Ed. (McGill University), a M.Div. (Canadian Theological College - now Ambrose University), a Th.M. (Trinity Evangelical Divinity School) and a Ph.D. (McGill University). He is a former lecturer in Old Testament Studies in the Faculte de Theologie Evangelique de Montreal, Acadia University. He was also Pastor of The Peoples Church of Montreal, an evangelical, multi-ethnic congregation in downtown Montreal, until his illness forced him to step down. He is married and the father of three adult children. In the summer of 2005 he was diagnosed as having A.L.S. and is grateful to God for the saving and sustaining grace he has experienced through Jesus Christ.
