After the sudden and unexpected death of her parents Matilda Jones
moves from her comfortable, easy suburban life to live with her
Uncle in the small coastal town of Colherns Point. But soon Matilda
realises that the town is not the idyllic seaside resort it at
first seems when she discovers that every six months a teenage girl
mysteriously disappears, only to turn up brutally murdered with
evidence of ritual sacrifice and witchcraft. Are there truly
Witches living among them? But as the pattern is broken questions
begin to be asked about who is really behind the murders. And myth
and conspiracy are uncovered as Matilda and her new friends start
getting closer to the truth... and become the unwitting targets of
the sinister and secretive 'Assembly.' Maybe the true monster is
the town of Colherns Point its self.
An old man sits in his room, not moving, not speaking, just
sitting... just watching. A son has moved his family away from
their friends to a new town filled with hostile faces. A fifteen
year old boy is surrounded by strangers in a new school... and a
cruel, bleak nothingness is beginning to take hold of him. Soon the
town will know the pain off loss, of unhappiness, of unrelenting
misery. And as an epidemic starts to grow, a spate of teenage
suicides, another being begins to emerge. It lives in the wall, in
the corner of the room and has hair as black as tar, eyes red like
fire and teeth as vicious as grief. The nightmare has begun, the
depression has taken its grip...The Black Dog has arisen.
In this volume, which includes a faithful reproduction of
Dewanchand Varma's original book on Pranotherapy, the reader can
trace one of the early developmental branches of modern manual
therapy and learn something of the eccentric life of one its early
pioneers in the West. Phil Young has drawn the threads of this
development together with the inclusion of the previously
unpublished notebooks of another such pioneer, Dr Randolph Stone, a
contemporary of Varma who, like Stanley Lief the founder of modern
European Neuromuscular Technique, was influenced by Varma's work.
Stone was the founder of his own system of manual therapy, which he
called Polarity Therapy, and although it is similar to Varma's
work, it has maintained to this day more of the original
vitalistic, energy approach.
Harvest Heat reveals how modern agriculture feeds hungry people.
Something magical happens in 1950 during wheat harvest when one war
veteran returns home. He struggles with civilian life after
fighting from Utah Beach to Berlin. Despite horrible battle
memories he gains new strength by keeping his promise to help
starving people get food. He meets a young woman who teaches in a
Kansas high school. The Kansas moon's white light fires the passion
of these young lovers. She helps him adjust to being home from the
war. In the summer heat fueled by the aroma of ripening wheat their
carnal love exposes her dark secrets. He helps her fight the trauma
of a brutal teenage attack. These young lovers face many
challenges. War in Korea drives grain prices higher as American
soldiers battle hordes of an advancing enemy. By helping farmers
lobby for mutual goals and supporting the leaders of huge farm
co-ops they establish a giant agricultural business on the lonely
prairie where Indians and buffalo once roamed. With friends from
Las Vegas they gamble and gain new wealth by trading grain
commodity futures. But only 55 years later one of America's largest
farmer-owned cooperatives is bankrupt. Harvest Heat explains the
intricate political relationships of people who helped build a
multi-billion dollar agribusiness empire. They now struggle to keep
their family farms that supply most of America's food. Harvest Heat
tells how much of America's political influence comes from citizens
in small towns. In the vibrant world of agribusiness these
Midwestern folks clash with big corporations and crooked
politicians who crave more power and money. Visit this Harvest Heat
