Everything we think, say, and do reflects our worldview. Whether we realize it or not, basic beliefs about God, humanity, history, and the future inevitably shape how we live. Philip Ryken, prolific author and president of Wheaton College, explains the distinguishing marks of the Christian worldview, helping us to engage thoughtfully with our increasingly pluralistic society. Based on the notion that ideas have consequences, this accessible resource will help you see life's "big picture" by equipping you with a well-reasoned framework of Christian beliefs and convictions.

This biography provides a critical account of the life and work of Susan Isaacs (1885-1948). This educationist, a pioneer of child-centred education in Britain was also an early and historically important child psychoanalyst. She is described in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography as the greatest influence on British education in the twentieth century. Yet she is virtually unknown in both educational and psychoanalytic circles. When Melanie Klein was threatened with expulsion from the British Psychoanalytic Society she was by far her most powerful advocate and thus played a major role in determining the direction of British psychoanalysis from the 1940s onwards. This book provides an account of her life and contains much intimate material about her childhood, her marriage and her work that was previously unknown. It gives a fascinating insight into many facets of her life and concludes with an appraisal of her impact on the worlds of education and psychoanalysis.
The Ten Commandments are the crystallization of God's law - but how do we apply them, and how do they relate to the gospel of sins forgiven? The church exists in a kind of moral limbo where we say we live under grace, yet still know that the commandments have to have a role in our lives somewhere. Where should we place them in our everyday lives, motives and attitudes? The commandments are an expression of God's character - this means that they provide foundational principles for how we relate to God and his plan for our lives.

As Christians, we're called to love Jesus more than anyone or anything else. But do we really do this? In Loving Jesus More, Wheaton College President Phil Ryken challenges us to take Jesus's words seriously and think carefully about where our affections lie. Highlighting how God's love for us is the true source of our love for him, Ryken helps us understand the Spirit's important role in producing true, gospel-motivated love in our lives and how our love for Jesus is expressed in the small moments of everyday life, not just in our worship songs or Bible reading.
Guiding readers through the Song of Songs verse by verse, this fresh, practical explanation will reveal important insights into romance, marriage, friendship, and human sexuality that are relevant today.

This book is about the best news the world has ever heard - the message of salvation. The Bible itself is the word of salvation, the message of grace that glorifies God by persuading sinners to believe in Jesus Christ. Philip Ryken opens up God's saving message using the Bible's stories, sermons, letters and poems to explain its own theme of salvation.
Exploring the universal nature of suffering, this book uses personal anecdotes and biblical examples to illustrate the strength that God offers to those with trouble of any kind-reminding sufferers that they are never alone.
Two respected pastors make a compelling case for the need to recover the five fundamental doctrines of the Christian faith. We live in an age of weak theology and casual Christianity. And this situation will continue as long as God's people insist on substituting intuition for truth, feeling for belief, and immediate gratification for enduring hope. Yet if evangelicalism will again denounce this self-centered faith and place Christ and his cross at the center of its vision, the church will see great days once more. According to authors James Montgomery Boice and Philip Graham Ryken, this will happen when believers specifically return to the gospel foundation with its doctrines of radical depravity, unconditional election, particular redemption, efficacious grace, and persevering grace. As these two noted pastors provide a compelling exposition of these essential truths, they also consider the current challenges, leaving no doubt that the church suffers when the doctrines of grace are neglected. Only in a faith that is practical-minded, kindhearted, and Bible-based will Christians recover what they have lost in this postmodern age. Now in paperback.
The Lord's Prayer, the greatest prayer in the Bible, comes from the heart of the Savior, the Son of God, to his Heavenly Father. It is proclaimed at celebrations, cried in times of war, whispered in the face of death. In a society where people are bombarded by worry and concern, violence and evil, it is so important to meet with the Heavenly Father in the intimate solitude of prayer. Pastor Philip Ryken urges readers to recognize the power that the Lord's Prayer holds. This model reminds us that God is our protector and provider. It expresses our every need and gratitude to the one who graciously provides. By intently studying and applying this passage, Christians will recognize that this pattern of prayer holds the promise of a changed life.
Most people are familiar with the "Love Chapter" of the Bible, 1 Corinthians 13, yet Phil Ryken has something fresh to say. Drawing on the life and ministry of Jesus to illustrate what love is and isn't, Ryken brings a unique perspective to this commonly quoted passage. Loving the Way Jesus Loves successfully integrates biblical teaching, photography, chapter study guides, and a popular-level writing style--all of which will help you understand the profound love of Christ more deeply and, in turn, learn to love more deeply in response.
Ryken applies Jeremiah's words to a contemporary audience, urging readers to search out spiritual fractures that may lie beneath the comfortable surface of daily life. Now with ESV Scripture references.
