Published by the interdisciplinary design studio MODU, this reader
explores the space between the interior and the exterior. How does
the design of interior spaces align with an urban world and vice
versa? Where can the boundaries between the interior and the urban
be drawn? What role does the environment play in this? For their
research and design projects, Phu Hoang and Rachely Rotem look at
three major cities on different continents: New York, Rome, and
Tokyo. MODU leaves behind the binary idea of inside and outside and
rather understands architecture as an extension of the environment.
Thus, it imagines a hybrid of urban space, architecture, and
interior space. The book explores the different geographic
locations and presents their own design projects.

High Performance Scienti?c Computing is an interdisciplinary area
that combines many ?elds such as mathematics, computer science and
scienti?c and engineering applications. It is a key high-technology
for competitiveness in industrialized countries as well as for
speeding up development in emerging countries. High performance
scienti?c computing develops methods for c-
puteraidedsimulationandoptimizationofsystemsandprocesses.Inpractical
applications in industry and commerce, science and engineering, it
helps to save resources, to avoid pollution, to reduce risks and
costs, to improve pr-

Di?erent aspects of scienti?c computing have been the topics of the
Third International Conference on High Performance Scienti?c
Computing held at the Hanoi Institute of Mathematics, Vietnamese
Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), March 6-10, 2006. The
conference has been organized by the Hanoi Institute of
Mathematics, Ho Chi Minh City University of Te- nology,
Interdisciplinary Center for Scienti?c Computing (IWR), Heidelberg,
and its International PhD Program "Complex Processes: Modeling,
Simu- tion and Optimization". The conference had about 200
participants from countries all over the

Tellurite resistance (TeR) determinat from uropathogenic strain
Escherichia coli KL53 is harbored on conjugative plasmid pTE53,
which consists of two clusters of ter genes. The first cluster of
genes is responsible for the TeR terZABCDEF and protective region
consists of terXYW. Only four genes terBCDE are essential for TeR
and these genes were object of our study. The expression,
purification and evaluation ATPase activity of the tellurite
resistance operon is a part of our work. We have identified that
C-terminus of these proteins is crucial for maintain of their
function due to loss of original function after modification by
His-tag. We established that protein TerC is membrane situated with
9 transmembrane domains and TerBDE are soluble cytosolic
proteins. We have identified the dimer formation of TerB, TerD and
TerE and interactions between TerD and TerE. The interaction
between TerB and TerD/TerE were also detected. In the last part of
this study we examined the response to oxidativ stress of TeR
strains and strains harboring different part of TeR operon. We have
also measured the total anitioxidant capacity of selected strains.
