Machine Learning in Concrete Technology (Paperback): Pijush Samui, S.K. Sekar, Kallyan Kulkarni Machine Learning in Concrete Technology (Paperback)
Pijush Samui, S.K. Sekar, Kallyan Kulkarni
R1,287 Discovery Miles 12 870 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The determination of Elastic Modulus (E) of normal strength concrete is an important task in civil engineering for infrastructure development. Experimental methods for determination of E value of normal strength concrete are complicated and time consuming. This article employs an Artificial Intelligence (AI) technique for prediction of E value of normal strength concrete. The results are compared with a widely used Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Support Vector Machine (SVM) model and empirical equation from the different buildings codes. Equations have been also developed for determination of E value of normal strength concrete based on the AI. The developed AI model also gives error bar of predicted E value. The predicted error bar can be used to determine model uncertainty. This study shows that the developed AI is a robust model for prediction of E value of normal strength concrete.

Artificial Intelligence in Earthquake Engineering (Paperback): Pijush Samui Artificial Intelligence in Earthquake Engineering (Paperback)
Pijush Samui
R1,296 Discovery Miles 12 960 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Earthquake engineers particularly in seismology and geotechnical engineering use a lot of empirical formulas to solve various earthquake engineering problems. These empirical formulas have lot of uncertainty. So, the available empirical formulas are not so reliable. This uncertainly can be minimized by using these new AI techniques. Therefore earthquake engineers should familiar with these new AI techniques. They can use the proposed book to know the application of these new AI techniques for different earthquake engineering problems. The application of these new AI techniques is very limited in earthquake engineering. These new techniques have been proved better than ANN in other engineering fields. So, it is necessary to investigate the feasibility of these new AI techniques in earthquake engineering.

The proposed book will give an idea of these new soft computing techniques to geotechnical community. The application of these new soft computing techniques in geotechnical engineering will also be described. The book is aimed at researchers and practitioners who are engaged in developing and applying soft computing tools to solving geotechnical engineering problems. It is also suitable as wider reading for geotechnical engineering postgraduate students.

Slope Stability and Liquefaction (Paperback): Pijush Samui Slope Stability and Liquefaction (Paperback)
Pijush Samui
R1,290 Discovery Miles 12 900 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book uses the upper bound limit analysis for determination of stability numbers for a two-layered soil slope both for an associated flow rule material and for a homogeneous slope with non-associated flow rule material. The effect of the pore water pressure and horizontal earthquake body forces was also included in the analysis. The results have been given in the form of non-dimensional stability charts, which can be used for readily obtaining either the value of the critical height or the factor of safety. An attempt has also been made in this book to study experimentally the effect of the frequency of the excitation and the addition of non-plastic fines on the liquefaction resistance of the material. Shake table studies, generating uni-axial sinusoidal horizontal vibrations, were carried out for this purpose. The peak magnitude of the pore water pressure tends to be higher for the excitation with smaller frequency especially at greater depths from the ground surface. The addition of non-plastic fines tends to increase the magnitude of the settlement as well as the increase in the pore water pressure.
