This is a tribute to a brave young combat pilot who was killed in
action towards the end of the Rhodesian War 1965 - 1980. It
tabulates a list of his operational airstrikes and the text is
illustrated with Hunter photographs and maps of some of the areas
where Brian Gordon carried out his missions. His operational
service in the last 15 months of his life was certainly
considerable. Brian flew 74 logged combat missions and was the only
Hunter pilot killed during the war. His logbook entries add more
detail to gaps in the Rhodesian war and will be cherished by family
and friends. This brave airman died so that we may live
The Gables in Durban was the authors home for ten years. Being the
playground for South Africa it was the best place to retire once
one's working life ended. Durban's tropical weather was more
pleasurable than polar Cape Town - the only other retirement city
considered. The Esplanade building faced the harbour with its
massive 'container terminal' reputed to be the largest in the
Southern hemisphere, in its day. We witnessed the construction and
further development of the vehicle terminal building and its
resultant increase of vehicles being exported and imported -
departing/arriving Durban by road and rail traffic. We witnessed
the transformation of the old the old railway 'Workshop' into a
modern shopping center. The beach-front Marine Parade was also
modernized during our stay in this Natal coastal resort city.
This anthology, in full colour, has edited contributions from a
group of people in the New Zealand Christian Writers' Guild Hauraki
Branch. I became obsessed with the desire to understand how we all
experience life's journey in our own way and made it my business to
try to enthuse my fellow writers. A collection of work as diverse
as this can only accentuate the fact that we serve an AWESOME God.
Unique as we are so unique is He. A very special thank you to our
publisher Preller Geldenhuys who has helped drive this group to
submit their work. To those who didn't get to this in time, please
don't give up! Keep writing and keep investigating what lies within
your heart. We all have stories to tell and families who will
someday regret that they never heard them.
