Ovidio fu un poeta fortunato. Denari, donne e successo arrivarono
che era giovane, e scriveva come un treno, con la facilita di chi
ama il suo lavoro. E cosi ci volle davvero un attimo per scrivere
le avventure galanti delle Eroine e comporre nelle Metamorfosi il
perpetuo leggero scorrere delle cose. Intanto a Roma c'era la
guerra civile, ma questo non era che un dettaglio in una vita
felice. Poi venne il severo Augusto, e cambio tutto. Il Princeps
comincio a fare ordine nella pruriginosa societa romana. E Ovidio
capi subito che il vento era cambiato: inizio a scrivere i Fasti,
un innocuo manuale sulle ricorrenze religiose, rimasto fatalmente
interrotto sulla pagina del 24 giugno. Tutto in realta inizia la
notte del 23: un sacerdote propizia l'avvento della Dea Fortuna,
arriva l'alba, si fa giorno, e comincia la festa di popolo; si
scende a frotte al Tevere, poi si mangia, si beve, e, su barchette
appositamente inghirlandate, si fa l'amore. Ordinaria
amministrazione, insomma. Succede pero che mentre Ovidio scrive del
24 giugno qualcosa va storto: arriva improvviso l'ordine di
relegatio, cioe un invito perentorio a lasciare Roma, destinazione
Mar Nero, ai confini dell'Impero. Ovidio ci rimase lamentosamente
per dieci anni, revisionando i Fasti e aggiungendo qua e la qualche
verso sguaiato. Ne leggiamo oggi, per la prima volta raccolti in
una monografia, gli ultimi nove carmi, dedicati alla Dea dei
capovolgimenti di destini, con la traduzione in italiano di
Antonello Anappo. Ovidio non torno mai piu a Roma: la Fortuna,
purtroppo, gli aveva voltato le spalle.
