The enormous popularity of all aspects of World War II over the
last half century has produced thousands of books but no single
collection of biographies of American military and naval leaders
during the war. This is the first definitive book containing
biographical material on all of our country's generals and flag
officers who served any active duty from December 7, 1941 to
September 2, 1945. It includes general officers of the U.S. Army,
the U.S. Air Force, the National Guard, and the U.S. Marine Corps
and flag officers of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard. In
addition to regular officers, it includes officers called to active
duty from the Reserves, officers brought from retirement to
temporary active duty, and officers promoted to high rank directly
from civilian life.
As the first and only definitive collection of all American
generals and flag officers who served in World War II, the book
will be a useful resource for both librarians and those interested
in World War II.
This book's purpose is to offer various perspectives relating to
the development, effectiveness, and implementation of interactive
computing technology for health promotion--programs and
interventions aimed at improving various health-related outcomes
such as involvement in care, quality of life, adherence, disease
management, healthy lifestyle, and more. Its coverage includes:
*conceptual foundations for examining how characteristics of
media, messages, and users relate to one another and how
interactive media can effectively and appropriately promote health
outcomes;
*examinations of the development, utilization, and evaluation of
specific computer applications for health promotion featuring
discussions of the theoretical rationale for the program, the
targeted audience, research on the program's effectiveness, and
implications for future program development; and
*analyses of critical issues such as potential benefits and
limitations of technology on the delivery of care, institutional
obstacles to the adoption of computing technology, and prospects
for integrating information technology into the health
system.

This evaluation of the senior leadership in the U.S. army is based,
in part, on the personal experience and wisdom of former Chief of
Staff General Edward C. Meyer. But it is supplemented by scores of
interviews that the authors conducted with the individuals (and the
leaders) who shaped the military since World War II. Many of the
issues that had an impact on the leadership of the military over
the period discussed are quantifiable, but many are not. Those that
are not are evaluated from Meyer's experience and from the
experience of the other authorities interviewed.
Presents the results of a ten-year research project on the
epidemiology of psychogenic disorders (psychoneuroses, cha- racter
neuroses and psychosomatic disorders). The study con- centrates on
the age group relevantfor psychotherapeutic care: 25-50 year-olds
living in urban communities.
"...this book covers a range of algal phyla, specialised algal
bioprocessing and application topics that make it very interesting
for a broad audience. Each chapter covers a theme in such a way
that can easily be read by a non-specialist but, as the authors
incorporate recent published papers, the book will also be
interesting for experts...I also recommend the book for
entrepreneurs and technical staff working in different algal-based
operations." (Journal of Phycology) As the global demand for meat
increases due to population and economic growth, more pressure has
been placed on the animal feed sector to support sustainable
livestock production, whilst also ensuring the nutritional value
and palatability of feed. With traditional sources of protein,
including oilseeds and distiller grains, considered as major
contributors to climate change, there is growing interest in
establishing alternative, more 'climate-smart' sources of protein,
such as seaweed and other forms of microalgae that can supplement
livestock diets. Seaweed and microalgae as alternative sources of
protein summarises current advances in utilising macroalgae and
microalgae as alternative sources of proteins. The collection
reviews processes of protein formation in macroalgae and
microalgae, macroalgae farming and processing as well as microalgae
bioprocessing. Chapters also discuss the practical application of
seaweed as an alternative protein source in ruminant, pig, poultry
and fish diets. Edited by Professor Xin Gen Lei, Cornell
University, USA, Seaweed and microalgae as alternative sources of
protein will be a standard reference for researchers from
universities or other research centres involved in
macroalgae/microalgae production and livestock nutrition, companies
involved in the manufacture or supply of animal feed or livestock
nutrition services, government and other agencies regulating the
animal feed sector, as well as farmers interested in furthering
their knowledge on recent developments in the animal feed/livestock
nutrition sector.
Since 1987 this book has helped and inspired physicians at all stages of their careers to get the most out of their professional and personal lives. Phil R. Manning and Lois DeBakey are preeminent medical educators, who seek, in their own work and through this book, to redirect the focus of continuing medical education from the classroom to more creative methods. Their approach is based on the physician's specific clinical practice, thus making continuing medical education more likely to improve patient care. Manning and DeBakey have completely revised and updated this second edition to reflect significant changes in how master physicians use information technology to keep abreast of exploding new medical information. This edition also addresses how professionals are coping with changes in the practice of medicine effected by managed care. All-new Reflections and Personal Essays from some of the most important names in medicine provide perspicacity, wisdom, and above all practical insight into the many facets of medical practice. Through the eyes of these celebrated figures, readers will find ways of making their work both more effective and more enjoyable. This one-of-a-kind book will fascinate physicians, residents, and medical students seeking to preserve and enhance their passion for medicine.
psychiatrischen Krankhei- ten sind v. a. in England, Skandinavien
deskriptiv-epidemiologische Feldfor- schungsprojekte: Als
Inanspruchnahmeklientel, jegliches Patientengut aller Institutionen
wissenschaftlichen Bereich hinaus eindrucksvoll."
