This book portrays the life of the great King David from a first
person viewpoint. Thus it enables the reader to see the life and
times of King David as though he were on the scene. It paints a
verbal portrait of King David in a "warts and all" way, that is, it
tells of his strengths and weaknesses. Some of the high points in
his life, such as slaying the giant Goliath, his sin of adultery
with the beautiful Bathsheba, fleeing from the army of his
rebellious son Absalom, are vividly portrayed from his own
viewpoint. This book is designed to enable the reader to understand
how King David became known as a "man after God's own heart."
This is a simple saga of the twists and turns in the life of a farm
boy. Depicted through his eyes are such world disturbing events as
the "great depression" and World War II. It tells of that farm
boy's disappointments through the journey of life and reveals how
the "Higher Power" overshadowing him turned those disappointments
into blessings. Through the author's eyes we get glimpses of how
life was lived on a farm in the early part of the twentieth
century. It tells of the simple joys experienced by those living
the rural way of life. It tells about life in a one-room school
with one's mother as the teacher. It tells of the struggles of
young people in their effort to get an education. Through the eyes
of that farm boy one gets a close view of the horrors encountered
on the battlefield. It tells of a marriage that "could not
work."but did. It tells of life in the minister's manse and the
view of church life from the other side of the pulpit. Also, it
tells of the joy of encountering the different cultures experienced
through travel in other parts of the world. It speaks of how life
at the end of the trail can be the most difficult of all of life's
encounters.
The setting of this novel centers around the period of the Civil
War. It tells the story of a spoiled, head strong young lady who
was determined to have her way at all costs. Her run-away marriage
was for the purpose of defying her mother rather than for true
love. It tells the high price that she, Rosetta, paid as a result
of her defiance. It describes life as lived in the south during
that period of history. It depicts the hardships suffered by both
soldiers and civilians during the "war between the states." It
tells of Rosetta's life and death struggle for the survival of
herself and her children. It describes the depth of poverty to
which she sank in that struggle. Finally, when all hope for
survival was gone she was literally brought to her knees. Only then
did she humble herself before her Creator and Lord and ask for His
help. God opened her eyes to an awareness that there was help all
around her. It recounts her near death experience at the hands of a
person from her past. It tells of happiness that came into her life
because of another person from her past. He referred to her as a
"lady of steel."

New York City. The detective offers two weeks of his time in which
to solve the three cases. Using an odd method in endeavoring to
find the solution, he almost succeeds only to realize that the two
weeks he allotted to these three cases is fast slipping by. He
begins to despair of finding the solution within the time frame
when suddenly from a most unlikely source he finds the solution to
all three mysterious cases.

In the period following the horrors and hardships of World War II
there was a hardy group of citizens living in a small village known
as Chesterville, a suburb of Tupelo, Mississippi. It was a period
in which its citizens were playing "catch up" from the trials and
tribulations of the preceding era, a "catch up" both mentally and
economically. The war had taken its toll on the life style of the
good citizens of the little village, citizens who prior the World
War II had been struggling to recoup a more comfortable life style
following the Civil War, a war in which some of its battles had
been fought at the very doorstep of the small community. The
prohibition of the sale of alcoholic beverages had brought into
being a new life style in big cities such as New York and Chicago,
a life style which came to be called the "Roaring Twenties." That
could not in any sense of the word refer to life in Chesterville
where the lifestyle was far from being exciting. Oh, to be sure,
prohibition had given rise to illicit whiskey stills and bootleg
liquor, but it had little effect on most citizens of that area. In
the afterglow of the past two wars the citizens of Chesterville
were struggling to pull themselves up by their bootstraps
economically speaking. Hard work in the fields and in the mills was
a way of life. Deprivation of luxuries was a part of that way of
life even before the crash of the stock market in 1929. From that
day forward the economic struggle was intensified. This volume
lists and describes the residents of Chesterville during that
period, citizens who had a profound effect on the author during his
boyhood days. It speaks of the religious, social and political life
of the citizens of the village. Although the author of this book
has traveled in time and miles far from his early life in the
village of Chesterville, in his mind and heart he still thinks of
it as "home." He will love it until his dying day.
