Human Physiology, Biochemistry and Basic Medicine is a unique
perspective that draws together human biology, physiology,
biochemistry, nutrition, and cell biology in one comprehensive
volume. In this way, it is uniquely qualified to address the needs
of the emerging field of humanology, a holistic approach to
understanding the biology of humans and how they are distinguished
from other animals. Coverage starts with human anatomy and
physiology and the details of the workings of all parts of the male
and female body. Next, coverage of human biochemistry and how
sugars, fats, and amino acids are made and digested is discussed,
as is human basic medicine, covering the science of diseases and
human evolution and pseudo-evolution. The book concludes with
coverage of basic human nutrition, diseases, and treatments, and
contains broad coverage that will give the reader an understanding
of the entire human picture.
In the past decade, the field of trenchless technology has expanded
rapidly in products, equipment, and utilization. This expansion
would not have occurred without a strong increase ineconomic
incentives to the user. Because theoperating environment has
changed, trenchless technology is often the preferred alternative
to traditional methods of digging holes and installing conduits.
The infrastructure in which we live has become more congested and
has to beshared by several users. In addition, the cost of
restoring a road or landscaped area after construction may be
higher than the cost of installing the conduit. These factors add
to the need for trenchless technology-the ability to dig holes
without disturbing the surface. In some ways, trenchless technology
is a futuristic concept. Ruth Krauss in a
children'sbookofdefinitions wrote,"AHole...Is to Dig." But
thisstatement is not necessarily true. Today, a hole could be to
bore. Trenchless technology is not new. But it certainly has become
the buzzword of the construction industry and it appears that it
will have a growing impact in the way contractors, utilities, and
others install new facilities. Methods to bore horizontal holes
were practiced as early as the 18005, but this technology has
greatly changed. Today's tools include sophisticated drilling
methods, state-of the-art power systems, and electronic guidance
techniques. These tools can bore faster, safer, and more
accurately, and in many instances more economically, than open-cllt
methods. Technology has played an important role in these advances,
but economics has become the driving force in making these systems
popular."
This book offers a novel approach to understanding violence and
violent conflict using complexity and network theories, borrowed
from the natural sciences, together with social network analysis.
Because violence is both a universal and central component of human
communication and identity formation, it has a fundamental function
in shaping social behavior. Using Manuel Castells' work on the
programming of social networks, this book explores the Lebanese
Civil War and the ongoing war in Afghanistan under the perspective
of violence within networks. The approach presents a unique and
compelling argument that counters the long-held assumption that war
is caused by specific events, or is the unavoidable culmination of
existing conditions or grievances. Rather, this book argues that
violence emerges when the structure of social networks becomes too
rigid and hierarchic to adapt to stresses and challenges that
materialize on a constant basis from both within and without the
network. This is important not only for the study of war, but as a
method of improving the success of contemporary peace building
efforts.
An exploration of both classic and contemporary conceptions of
leadership, focusing on social psychological approaches to central
questions such as the way people think about leaders and
leadership, the personality attributes of leaders, power and
influence, trust, and the qualities that sustain positive
relationships between leaders and followers.
US Public Memory, Rhetoric, and the National Mall examines "the
nation's front yard," understanding it as both a public face the
United States presents to the world and a site where its less
apparent moral story is told. This book provides a uniquely
thorough, interdisciplinary, and integrated examination of how the
National Mall shares a moral story of the United States and, in so
doing, reveals the soul of the nation. The contributors explore 11
different memorials, monuments, and museums found across the Mall,
considering how each rhetorically remembers a key element of the
nation's past, what the rhetorical memory tells us about the
nation's soul, and how each site must thus be understood in
relation to the commemorative landscape of the Mall.

This is the first broad-based guide to the increasingly important
subject of trenchless technology - the wide array of processes and
techniques for digging holes and rehabilitating conduits without
disturbing the ground surface. Trenchless technology has become an
effective and economic alternative to open-cut construction. Cities
and communities can no longer afford to disrupt traffic or disturb
the public. Nor can they afford the high costs of restoration that
result from traditional methods. An Introduction to Trenchless
Technology provides you with a sound understanding of what this
technology is, how it works, and what benefits it offers. This
first-of-its-kind resource gathers information on the latest
techniques and equipment used in guided boring, pipe jacking,
microtunnelling, auger boring, horizontal directional drilling,
on-line replacement, and renovation. Clear guidelines not only help
you decide how and where to apply trenchless methods, but also
demonstrate the strong economic advantages they offer. The book's
unique classification system and easy-to-understand descriptions
explain each method in detail. Also, a special chapter on job
planning shows you critical factors to evaluate when using the
technology. Throughout the book, case histories offer valuable
insights on how trenchless technologies actually work.
This book was born out of questions from people who had never read
the book of Hebrews. Many of the people at the church in which I
pastor have had difficulty understanding Hebrews. This is because
of its glorious depth, cultural references, and historical context.
You will find a summary of each chapter in the book of Hebrews. In
each summation there will be answers to the most common questions
found in Hebrews. Books and commentaries fall into different
scales. Think of it as an onion. An onion has many layers. This
book falls into the most outer layer of understanding as it relates
to Hebrews. This is not an all-encompassing commentary on Hebrews.
It is for the first-time reader of Hebrews. It should be a part of
someone's beginning journey to spiritual enlightenment through the
book of Hebrews. What this book is not: An extensive commentary on
the book of Hebrews. An extreme in depth look at the theology and
doctrine of the book of Hebrews. What this book is: This book was
designed to be a reader's companion to the book of Hebrews. It
designed for the individual who has never read the book of Hebrews
to be able to pick it up and come to a cursory understanding of its
pages. This book attempts to summarize and highlight difficult
passages in order to broaden the reader's perspective. This book
tends to combine chapters for better understanding and flow of the
content in Hebrews. When using this book Most people who have used
this book find it helpful to open in prayer, read the sections on
the chapters they will be covering in Hebrews, read the chapters in
Hebrews and then re-read the section in this book. This will make
the book of Hebrews come alive to the reader and broaden the
reader's understanding.
