"Wartime Dissent in America" tells the story of U.S. wartime
dissent by exploring the speeches, pamphlets and essays of war
opponents in every major American war since the Revolutionary War.
This history and anthology summarizes each war, with special
emphasis on the jeopardy and impact of dissent during each period.
Far more than an anthology, the book explores the history and
development of American wartime dissent. It is, at once, a valuable
collection of the nation's vital statements of wartime dissent,
while also telling the broader story in which this tradition of
dissent developed and played out. Robert Mann illuminates the
constitutional and moral philosophies used to oppose war over more
than two centuries.
This stimulating book explores the many ways in which social group
workers approach diversity. Capturing the Power of Diversity
represents a range of interests and approaches to the challenges
faced by group workers throughout the world. It illustrates the
complexity, creativity, and excitement of the diversity concept and
it explores how practitioners manage and adjust to diversity and
use its power constructively. The contributing authors discuss
macro approaches to inequality in social, political, and economic
spheres and address concerns about the fit of group work into the
social work curriculum and practitioners'techniques. In this
guidebook, readers can discover how to emphasize social group work
to enhance the education of social work students and to help
professionals deal more effectively with cultural
diversity.Capturing the Power of Diversity covers practice, theory
building, teaching, research, and various age and ethnic groups.
Chapters explore topics related to: the value and importance of
using social group work practice at the macro level educational and
practice dimensions of diversity the necessity of dealing with
inequality the macro system and its economic and political
consequences teaching and practice issues emerging from the effects
of race and class on practiceAn enlightening reference and guide,
Capturing the Power of Diversity is a much-needed source of
information for social work practitioners and students who are
interested in how diversity impacts social group work and are
curious as to how to make group work more effective.

Glastonbury Tor is acknowledged to be one of the most powerful
sacred places in the British Isles. Wreathed in mystery since
before recorded time, myths and legends abound about its role in
the spiritual life of the people of these islands and beyond. Today
the power of this place still evokes feelings of awe and
wonderment. This book investigates the exact source of that power.
In a remarkable breakthrough, drawing on new research and
previously unpublished sources, Nicholas Mann reveals the ultimate
purpose and function of this world famous landmark. He draws upon a
synthesis of science and spirituality to challenge beliefs about
the interaction between the worlds of body and spirit. His dramatic
conclusions have profound implications for the study of sacred
sites worldwide. Nicholas R Mann is the author of the classic Isle
of Avalon and is a longtime resident and researcher of the
mysteries of this ancient landscape.
Avalon, a site of great power, revered since ancient times as an
entrance to, and exit from, the Otherworld. "The Isle of Avalon"
illustrates and describes the physical and sacred topography of the
Isle as well as its symbols, architecture and history. This is an
updated and revised edition of the first book to provide a coherent
context in which to understand Avalon's many mysteries. Nicholas
Mann shows that the landscape features of the Isle and Tor,
including the Glastonbury Zodiac, the Abbey, the Tor Labyrinth and
the St Michael Ley Line are congruent expressions of Avalon's
remarkable qualities as a focus for the magical and spiritual power
of the English landscape.

Liebe Leserin, lieber Leser, aile reden von der Vision. Es ist die
Sehnsucht nach einem Vor- stellungsbild, das die Menschen im
Untemehmen wieder begei- stert. Urn ihnen Sinn zu geben flir ihre
Arbeit. Es ist aber auch ein Zeichen, daB die Fiihrung selbst nach
etwas sucht, auf das man wieder stolz sein kann. Am sUirksten ist
das Bediirfnis dort, wo man Visionen nach auBen verkiindet. In
Untemehmen, in denen Geschaftsberichte, PresseverOffentlichungen,
Firmenbroschiiren Visionen beschreiben. Schon formuliert und auf
Glanzpapier ge- druckt. Werbebroschiiren ohne Liebe und
Dberzeugung.
menschlichen SchOpfungskraft.
The purpose of this book is to aid you in identifying natural
ivory, ivory look-a-likes, and manufactured imitations using
non-destructive testing techniques with readily available
equipment. With 128 pages and 168 photographs you will be able to
confidently identify these materials.
Due to the distributed nature of information collection in wireless
sensor networks and the inherent limitations of the component
devices, the ability to store, locate, and retrieve data and
services with minimum energy expenditure is a critical network
function. Additionally, effective search protocols must scale
efficiently and consume a minimum of network energy and memory
reserves. A novel search protocol, the Trajectory-based Selective
Broadcast Query protocol, is proposed. An analytical model of the
protocol is derived, and an optimization model is formulated. Based
on the results of analysis and simulation, the protocol is shown to
reduce the expected total network energy expenditure by 45.5
percent to 75 percent compared to current methods. This research
also derives an enhanced analytical node model of random walk
search protocols for networks with limited-lifetime resources and
time-constrained queries.
