This work is an analysis of the whole frontier between religion and the environment. It deals in turn with their interactions and the effects of each on the other in the major world religions. It considers the religious impact on human uses of time, space, materials, transport, foods, and the environmental effects of religious influence on major topics such as population pressures, morbidity, mortality, marital arrangements, contraception, the treatment of animals, and environmental management.
Here for the first time a reader can understand The Great Gatsby as
F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote it. Fitzgerald wanted praise for showing
skills like those of James Joyce in Ulysses. He set the table for a
party to which no one came. No reviewers or interpreters of his
novel until now have fully explained its structure, its individual
chapter topics, biblical parodies, puns, games with numbers, and
burlesques hidden in images. He drew from The Gospel According to
John, a 5th century apocryphal book (The Gospel of Nicodemus), The
Epistle of James, The Acts of the Apostles, and legends of the
saints in ways similar to Joyce's use of adventures in Homer's The
Odyssey.
This report on materials is not a sequel to the five or six
high-quality reports published in certain Community countries over
the last few years, nor does it attempt to summarize them. Nor is
it a technical summary of the state of the art in new materials. It
is rather to be seen as a survey of economic dynamics and strategy,
carried out for the purpose of prompting political and industrial
leaders throughout the European Community to reflect in some depth
on the subject of materials. The report is arranged in five parts :
the first is concerned with a definition of materials, the second
with structural materials and their influence on the reconception
of industrial processes, and this part is complemented by the
third, which looks at the three main sectors using structural
materials (transport, packaging, building and public works). The
fourth part analyzes functional materials and the way in which they
affect basic components in the technological system (information,
energy, biotechnology). The fifth and last part makes a strategic
analysis for Europe (in the spheres of industrial strategies, the
role of the authorities and developments in employment and skills).
WCDMA-Requirements and Practical Design discusses direct sequence CDMA, a well-established technology used in both second and third generation wireless standards. The authors provide practical information on the design, development and implementation of a WCDMA modem and protocol software. Written in a methodical and highly accessible manner this book will appeal to professional communications engineers and software and hardware engineers, along with postgraduate students and academics. The book: - Addresses all aspects of the development of a WCDMA (UMTS) handset from the RF chain through the physical and protocol layers to the speech codec.
- Combines introductions to the 3GPP FDD WCDMA standard and practical engineering aspects of the development of user equipment allowing for a better understanding of the specifications.
- Discusses the physical layer, including the Rake receiver and turbo decoder, and the protocol layers giving the reader a comprehensive overview of the technology involved.
- Provides engineers with practical tips and advice from the engineers who develop WCDMA user equipment.
WCDMA-Requirements and Practical Design is an invaluable and practical reference, written by engineers developing third generation wireless technology. Its explanation of the specifications and potential problems with solutions will be extremely useful for those designing a 3G mobile wireless device.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), which can cause significant
impairment in personal, social, and academic contexts, affects
nearly half a million children in the United States. This
step-by-step guide provides mental health professionals with an
adaptable, evidence-based model that uses cognitive behavior
therapy to treat pediatric OCD. The authors present well-tested,
empirically-validated strategies that encourage clinical
flexibility and creativity. Chapters describe the nuts and bolts of
assessment, case conceptualization, and treatment planning, as well
as psychoeducation, pharmacotherapy, strategies for relapse
prevention, and involving family members in treatment. Richly
described case studies illustrate how core strategies can be
effectively implemented with youth between the ages of 7 and 18.
Includes downloadable handouts for clinical use, including
worksheets and fact sheets for parents and guardians, exercises and
games, and other clinical tools and resources.
