Bible scholar Marvin R. Vincent evocatively explores how Bible
study, reading and interpretation changed across the ages, from
early church antiquity to the end of the 19th century. A richly
informed and well-written overview of Biblical criticism's history,
arranged chronologically from the early church era. Although the
author dedicates but short chapters to each specific development,
his breezy, straightforward narrative and lucid interpretation of
the historical facts render this guide a valuable source of
knowledge in the field. Most of Vincent's commentary takes place
after the invention of the printing press; it was this device that
saw the Bible copied and distributed to a wider audience on
ever-greater scale. The growth in literacy in Europe from the 16th
to the 19th century greatly accelerated and refined the practice of
Biblical study and criticism.

The Handbook of Environmental Economics focuses on the economics of
environmental externalities and environmental public goods. Volume
I examines environmental degradation and policy responses from a
microeconomic, institutional standpoint. Its perspective is
dynamic, including a consideration of the dynamics of natural
systems, and global, with attention paid to issues in both rich and
poor nations. In addition to chapters on well-established topics
such as the theory and practice of pollution regulation, it
includes chapters on new areas of environmental economics research
related to common property management regimes; population and
poverty; mechanism design; political economy of regulation;
experimental evaluations of policy instruments; and technological
change.
In these essays by Asian and European theologians, a new approach
to pluralism is offered, dealing with such topics as poverty, the
arms race, and the feminist and ecological movements.
Since its development in the late seventies, the author's
Semi-Automated Full Battery system of using word processor and
codified statements to write psychological test reports and do
psychological test analysis has been expanded considerably. This
volume reviews this material, unique in that it is a carefully
codified actuarial system for psychological test interpretation
coupled with ready-to-go narrative statements that can be blended
into psychological test reports. The Full Battery Codebook is a
collection of works that originated from the Semi-Automated Full
Battery and has been expanded to include not only additional tests,
but stepped-down versions of computer programs.

Funky music hasn't received the critical attention that rock, jazz, and the blues have—until now. This intelligent, accessible, and engrossing study takes an unprecedented look at the songs, the musicians, the philosophy, and the meaning of funk. Vincent, a noted critic, scholar, and DJ, takes readers from the earliest efforts of James Brown (the Godfather of Funk) up to the masters of today, investigating such crucial phenomena along the way as funky soul (Stevie Wonder, the Temptations), jazz-funk (Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock), monster funk (Parliament, Funkadelic), disco-funk (Chic, K.C. & the Sunshine Band), funky pop (Kool & the Gang, Chaka Khan), P-Funk Hip Hop (Digital Underground, De La Soul), funk rock (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Primus), and more.
With sixteen pages of photos, thorough annotations throughout, and a complete discography, Funk gives us the history of a uniquely American music born out of tradition and community—a music of energy, attitude, anger, hope, romance, mystery, and irrespressible spirit that now stands as a cornerstone of African American popular culture.
