"Wartime Dissent in America" tells the story of U.S. wartime dissent by exploring the speeches, pamphlets and essays of war opponents in every major American war since the Revolutionary War. This history and anthology summarizes each war, with special emphasis on the jeopardy and impact of dissent during each period. Far more than an anthology, the book explores the history and development of American wartime dissent. It is, at once, a valuable collection of the nation's vital statements of wartime dissent, while also telling the broader story in which this tradition of dissent developed and played out. Robert Mann illuminates the constitutional and moral philosophies used to oppose war over more than two centuries.
This stimulating book explores the many ways in which social group workers approach diversity. Capturing the Power of Diversity represents a range of interests and approaches to the challenges faced by group workers throughout the world. It illustrates the complexity, creativity, and excitement of the diversity concept and it explores how practitioners manage and adjust to diversity and use its power constructively. The contributing authors discuss macro approaches to inequality in social, political, and economic spheres and address concerns about the fit of group work into the social work curriculum and practitioners'techniques. In this guidebook, readers can discover how to emphasize social group work to enhance the education of social work students and to help professionals deal more effectively with cultural diversity.Capturing the Power of Diversity covers practice, theory building, teaching, research, and various age and ethnic groups. Chapters explore topics related to: the value and importance of using social group work practice at the macro level educational and practice dimensions of diversity the necessity of dealing with inequality the macro system and its economic and political consequences teaching and practice issues emerging from the effects of race and class on practiceAn enlightening reference and guide, Capturing the Power of Diversity is a much-needed source of information for social work practitioners and students who are interested in how diversity impacts social group work and are curious as to how to make group work more effective.

The transition to adulthood is a longer and more complex process than it was just a few decades ago, and a growing number of youth and young adults experience significant challenges in the establishment of an autonomous and independent lifestyle when compared to previous generations. Successful high school graduation followed by employment is no longer the inevitable trajectory for young people, especially in the current socio-economic context where jobs are less accessible and more demanding in terms of specialized skills and higher academic qualifications. Unable to rely on family for emotional and financial support, vulnerable youth, who grow up in substitute care, are especially effected by the lengthening of this transition to adulthood. The dismal outcomes for youth growing up in care are by now well-documented, and more recently, a range of models have been proposed to help advance our understanding of these outcomes and how to forestall them. However, the literature on leaving care has long suffered from the absence of theory that could guide meaningful intervention. In response to this gap, Leaving Care and the Transition to Adulthood offers a comprehensive overview of the newest contributions to this area in relation to theory, in addition to the Theory of Emerging Adulthood, while also featuring cutting-edge research and best practices that support adjustment across a range of domains for this population. International in scope, this book focuses on bringing together major advances that span the literature on transitioning to adulthood within the care system, offering a unique and important contribution to the field.
Avalon, a site of great power, revered since ancient times as an entrance to, and exit from, the Otherworld. "The Isle of Avalon" illustrates and describes the physical and sacred topography of the Isle as well as its symbols, architecture and history. This is an updated and revised edition of the first book to provide a coherent context in which to understand Avalon's many mysteries. Nicholas Mann shows that the landscape features of the Isle and Tor, including the Glastonbury Zodiac, the Abbey, the Tor Labyrinth and the St Michael Ley Line are congruent expressions of Avalon's remarkable qualities as a focus for the magical and spiritual power of the English landscape.
Geospace features highly dynamic populations of charged particles with a wide range of energies from thermal to ultra-relativistic. Influenced by magnetic and electric fields in the terrestrial magnetosphere driven by solar wind forcing, changes in the numbers and energies of these particles lead to a variety of space weather phenomena, some of which are detrimental to space infrastructure. This book presents an overview of the latest discoveries and current scientific understanding of the coupling of electromagnetic waves and charged particles during magnetic storms, and explains the observed dynamics of these particle populations. The book furthermore includes investigations relevant to understanding and forecasting this space environment and the adverse impacts of space weather. High-energy electrons and ions in the Van Allen radiation belts and the ring current are of particular interest and importance with regard to the operation of space-based technological infrastructure upon which 21st century civilisation increasingly relies. This book presents the latest research on the sources, transport, acceleration and loss of these energetic particle populations, as well as their coupling during geospace magnetic storms.
In Untemehmen, in denen Geschaftsberichte, PresseverOffentlichungen, Firmenbroschiiren Visionen beschreiben.

Due to the distributed nature of information collection in wireless sensor networks and the inherent limitations of the component devices, the ability to store, locate, and retrieve data and services with minimum energy expenditure is a critical network function. Additionally, effective search protocols must scale efficiently and consume a minimum of network energy and memory reserves. A novel search protocol, the Trajectory-based Selective Broadcast Query protocol, is proposed. An analytical model of the protocol is derived, and an optimization model is formulated. Based on the results of analysis and simulation, the protocol is shown to reduce the expected total network energy expenditure by 45.5 percent to 75 percent compared to current methods. This research also derives an enhanced analytical node model of random walk search protocols for networks with limited-lifetime resources and time-constrained queries.
