This collection brings together three international and
contemporary plays that each denounce violence against women,
alongside interviews with the creators and practitioners who
brought them to life. With interviews with writers, directors and
producers, who discuss the conception and staging of their plays,
their hope is to de-glamourize the staging of violence, to give
voice to the survivors of gendered violence, and to create
awareness and empathy within the audiences. Little Stitches
(London, 2014): four short pieces by Isley Lynn, Raul Quiros Molina
, Bahar Brunton and Karis E. Halsall on the issue of Female Genital
Mutilation as seen from the point of view of by-standers, health
professionals, women who support the practice and, finally,
survivors. 'Kubra' (Sydney, 2016) by Dacia Maraini, features a
young female protagonist who was subjected to FGM/C as a child, and
now brings her case to court. Rape Trial (Rome, 2018), adapted for
theatre by Renato Chiocca from the international award-winning
documentary of the same title made for Italian state television in
1979, shows how attitudes toward sexual violence, and judicial
procedures, tend to turn rape survivors from accusers into accused,
in court and in everyday discourse.
This book aims to describe the role of silicon in the environment
from the biogeochemical cycle of terrestrial ecosystems, uptake to
cellular and tissue bioaccumulation and its effects in mitigating
abiotic and biotic stresses. From an agronomic point of view, this
knowledge is essential to boost agricultural production and improve
its quality and the sustainability of crops in the face of the
growing pressure of different stresses on crop systems of different
natures. Si is the only multi-stress mitigator in plant nutrition.
It plays an important role in mitigating nutritional deficiency by
increasing nutrient use efficiency, something that will be very
important in the future: producing more with less nutrient
accumulated in the plant. The book focuses on the effects of Si on
plant mineral nutrition, exploring nutritional deficiencies and
toxicity of Al and potentially toxic heavy metals such as Cd, as
well as important stresses such as salinity, water deficit and high
temperature. The book will also discuss the Si extractors in the
soil and criteria for recommending Si in crops and the sources of
the element for its application in soil and leaves, as well as the
role of Si in the activity of microorganisms and in plant diseases
and pests. São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP)(2022/10092-9).
Marriage was God's idea. He decided that man and woman should be
"one flesh". Furthermore, the Bible says "God is love ".
Unfortunately, many couples never learned to love each other. A
feeling, passion or some other influence brought them together, but
they never learned how to study or explore each other, or discover
what makes them happy. When you do not know another person it is
impossible to love them because you do not know what pleases or
annoys them, their dreams and struggles, or how they think. In such
ignorance, you will make many mistakes in your relationship and so
cause many problems. These problems will cause you to withdraw,
even though you are married and were in love at one time. If you
have been wondering: Do I still love my husband/wife Did I marry
the wrong person Why is my partner so cold to me Why do we love
each other but can't stay together? How can I make sure my marriage
lasts? How can I live with a person who is so difficult? Why do our
problems go away, but then come back worse than before? Is my
marriage always going to be about hardships, or will I find
happiness one day? Cheer up! You will learn how to love
intelligently and how to be happy with your spouse, even if he (or
she) acts like King Kong.
This book examines the biology of tuco-tucos (Ctenomys) from an
evolutionary perspective. Historically, these subterranean rodents
have long attracted the attention of scientists due to its
remarkable chromosomes variability and rapid diversification. A
wealth of knowledge on physiology, ecology, genetics, morphology,
paleontology, and taxonomy has been documented in the last 70 years
through numerous single publications. In this volume, expert
investigators review and frame these essays with the breadth of
current understanding. The collection of chapters are presented
into the major topics: i) Evolution of Ctenomys, ii) Geographic
Patterns, iii) Organismal Biology, and iv) Environmental
Relationships. Given its scope, the book will be of interest to
both students and researchers and may stimulate further research
with this exciting model on a wide range of evolutionary topics.
This is a book on "equity in the civil law tradition" from the
double perspective of legal history and comparative law. It is
intended not only for civil lawyers who want to better understand
the role and history of equity in their own legal tradition, but
also - and perhaps more saliently - for common lawyers who are
curious about why the history of equity has unfolded so differently
on the continent of Europe and in Latin America. The author begins
with the investigation of the philosophical foundations of the
Western notion of equity in the teachings of Plato and Aristotle
and of how their ideas affected the works of the great Attic
orators (chapter 2). He then addresses the way in which Roman law
turned this notion into a legal concept of considerable practical
importance (chapter 3) and how it survived the fall of Rome and was
later elaborated in the Middle Ages by civilists and canonists
(chapter 4). Subsequently, the author analyses how the notion of
equity was dealt with in the Modern Era by legal humanists,
Protestant and Catholic theologians, scholars of the usus modernus
pandectarum and of Roman-Dutch law, and then by legal rationalism
and the philosophers of the Enlightenment (chapter 5). He then
deals with the history of equity on the continent since the
fragmentation of the ius commune and the codifications of the
nineteenth century and with its reception in Latin America (chapter
6). Finally, the author offers some closing remarks on the
fundamental equivocalness (or relativity, as some scholars put it)
of the notion of equity in the civil law tradition today
(conclusion).
This textbook aims to describe the role of minerals in plant life
cycle; how these nutrients are absorbed, distributed, stored; what
functions each mineral plays and the disorders that their excess or
absence may cause. From an agronomic perspective, such knowledge is
key to boost crop production and improve its quality, and it also
helps understand how to better manage fertilizers and prevent
environmental issues. The book has focus on tropical agriculture
and its specific demands, providing examples of major crops (such
as sugarcane, soybeans, coffee etc), silviculture and pasture
species.
Renato Cisneros's great-great-grandmother Nicolasa bore seven
children by her long-term secret love, who was also her priest,
raising them alone in nineteenth century Peru. More than a century
later, Renato, the descendent of that clandestine affair, struggles
to wring information about his origins out of recalcitrant
relatives, whose foibles match the adventures and dalliances of
their ancestors. As buried secrets are brought into the light, the
story of Nicolasa's progeny unfolds, bound up with key moments in
the development of the Republic of Peru since its independence.

emphasis on the most relevant biopolymers (peptides and DNA) but
not limited to them. The chapters will include peptide sequence
analysis, DNA sequence analysis, analysis of biopolymers and
nonpolymers, sequence alignment problems, and more.
