Nanomedicine is a developing field, which includes different
disciplines such as material science, chemistry, engineering and
medicine devoted to the design, synthesis and construction of
high-tech nanostructures. The ability of these structures to have
their chemical and physical properties tuned by structural
modification, has allowed their use in drug delivery systems, gene
therapy delivery, and various types of theranostic approaches.
Colloidal noble metal nanoparticles and other nanostructures have
many therapeutic and diagnostic applications. The concept of drug
targeting as a magic bullet has led to much research in chemical
modification to design and optimize the binding to targeted
receptors. It is important to understand the precise relationship
between the drug and the carrier and its ability to target specific
tissues, and pathogens to make an efficient drug delivery system.
This book covers advances based on different drug delivery systems:
polymeric and hyper branched nanomaterials, carbon-based
nanomaterials, nature-inspired nanomaterials, and pathogen-based
carriers.
This book is for anyone who wants to learn about herself or himself
in a personal way-a way that includes reason and love, not
imitation and fear. This book is about a journey from me to "I," a
journey that is a lifelong process into the beautiful ocean of the
unknown. Once we become knowledgeable about who we are, we can
stride into this unknown enthusiastically, and without fear,
anxiety, and regret. We can allow ourselves to go with the flow,
just because it is the way to go; we simply ACCEPT the unknown as
another part of our being. This sense of true acceptance comes only
with knowledge and awareness of ourselves and our surroundings.
Without these two, our acceptance is motivated by fear, or some
form of procrastination, apathy, or some other reason that is not
related to true acceptance.
How each person is born, raised, and grows in the journey of
life is a beautiful, extraordinary, yet comprehendible process.
Once we learn the laws and rules of nature and creation, we have
learned a great deal about ourselves. We all have to walk through
obstacles, barriers, and difficulties in life.
Re-Imagining Nature: Environmental Humanities and Ecosemiotics
explores new horizons in environmental studies, which consider
communication and meaning as core definitions of ecological life,
essential to deep sustainability. It considers landscape as
narrative, and applies theoretical frameworks in eco-phenomenology
and ecosemiotics to literary, historical, and philosophical study
of the relationship between text and landscape. It considers in
particular examples and lessons to be drawn from case studies of
medieval and Native American cultures, to illustrate in an applied
way the promise of environmental humanities today. In doing so, it
highlights an environmental future for the humanities, on the
cutting edge of cultural endeavor today.
Covering two hundred years, this groundbreaking book brings

history of the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia to
offer the first historical study of borderlands with a global
reach.
To understand the content of Therapy Dialogue and how the process
of therapy worked for the person whose therapy is documented here,
one needs to become familiar with the concept of
self-actualization. This concept has been explained in Roya R.
Rad's other book, Rumi & Self Psychology (Psychology of
Tranquility), and the reader will find some of the same subjects
repeated here.
This client's goal was to become self-actualized, and to be
purified of the heavy and harmful baggage she had carried with her
throughout her life; the baggage of negative emotions, thoughts,
blockages, and unattended needs. We will refer to Maslow's pyramid
for the concept of self-actualization. This pyramid can help
explain human motivation and personal development in life. Humans
have both physical and emotional needs and are motivated by
satisfying these needs in life. Our most basic needs are inborn and
have evolved over many years. It is only when the lower needs of
physical and emotional well-being are satisfied or compensated that
we are able to take care of the higher ones.
This book is on Iran's geopolitical importance representing a
continuum of international competition for political gains and
economic benefit, due to the country's unique geographical location
that has always been a cause of contention. Iran's massive boarders
and evolving political weakness, along with influences from the
kings of Qajar that maintained and strengthened Great Britain's
hegemony in the region, were major factors affecting ongoing
regional conflicts. Additional roles played by other world powers
such as France, Russia and the United States are also noted.
Conflicts, unrest and regional wars were all consequences arising
from power struggles that led to treaties and international
agreements between Iran, Britain and Russia that caused the
eventual loss of traditional Iranian territories. Hence, extrinsic
impositions on Iran are the subject of this study as authors
examine the turbulent climate that altered Iranian borders during
the Qajar Dynasty.
Soil enzymes play a fundamental role in many soil processes such
as the mineralization of organic matter, the synthesis of humic
substances, the degradation of xenobiotics or the mechanisms
involved in the biocontrol of plant pathogens. Their direct link
with soil microorganisms gives them a key role as biomonitors of
the evolution of soil quality or in the monitoring of the
application of organic amendments to degraded soils. As a
consequence of the importance of soil enzymes on soil processes,
there is an increasing interest in their study, as well as in the
application of molecular techniques as diagnostic tools.
This book focuses on questions like: Is psychology the new
spirituality, how ego can create distractions, why do we need to
learn in life and would all the learning do for us, how to
distinguish the ego from the higher self, how to self reflect
instead of self neglect, are we moving backward or forward in the
process of life, can we scientifically become spiritual, what is
the difference between conscious and unconscious, and if we are
searching hard enough? It further discusses the dance of life,
brain and evolution, wholeness and an evolved human being.
The Arab Spring and recent popular uprisings that have taken place
in many Arab countries since the end of 2010 highlight the urgent
need for economic policy reorientation in these countries. This
book addresses key issues relevant to the contemporary economic
realities of the Arab economies; including policy space, generation
of more productive and decent employment, social justice and
poverty alleviation, regional integration and the common destiny of
the Arab people, and the failure of the structural adjustment
programs recommended by the Bretton Woods institutions and
implemented in these countries in the last three decades. The
volume explores, and makes recommendations, for deep pan Arab
regional integration and alternative pro-poor, growth-oriented
economic and trade policies capable of promoting social justice by
reducing the incidence of poverty. It highlights the ways in which
various types of economic and trade policies have affected the
levels of employment and poverty in five Arab countries: Egypt,
Jordan, Morocco, the occupied Palestinian territory and Sudan.
Using a mixture of qualitative and quantitative methodologies, the
book focuses on Arab trade integration, exploring the obstacles to
its implementation in the past, as well as its potentials as a
source of employment generation and enhancement of living
conditions. The book also addresses the construction,
interpretation and use of quantitative trade indicators for optimal
policy choice at both the domestic and regional levels.
Design of Integrally-Attached Timber Plate Structures outlines a
new design methodology for digitally fabricated spatial timber
plate structures, presented with examples from recent construction
projects. It proposes an innovative and sustainable design
methodology, algorithmic geometry processing, structural
optimization, and digital fabrication; technology transfer and
construction are formulated and widely discussed. The methodology
relies on integral mechanical attachment whereby the connection
between timber plates is established solely through geometric
manipulation, without additional connectors, such as nails, screws,
dowels, adhesives, or welding. The transdisciplinary design
framework for spatial timber plate structures brings together
digital architecture, computer science, and structural engineering,
covering parametric modeling and architectural computational
design, geometry exploration, the digital fabrication assembly of
engineered timber panels, numerical simulations, mechanical
characterization, design optimization, and performance improvement.
The method is demonstrated through different prototypes, physical
models, and three build examples, focusing specifically on the
design of the timber-plate roof structure of 23 large span arches
called the Annen Headquarters in Luxembourg. This is useful for the
architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) sector and shows
how new structural optimization processes can be reinvented through
geometrical adaptions to control global and local geometries of
complex structures. This text is ideal for structural engineering
professionals and architects in both industry and academia, and
construction companies.

The Project Management Office (PMO) is a rapidly emerging concept in project management that has evolved in terms of its application, sophistication, and proven results. Most literature on the subject focuses on a specific facet or purpose of PMO. The Advanced Project Management Office: A Comprehensive Look at Function and Implementation provides an all-inclusive description of the PMO and allows project management professionals to select the features most appropriate and relevant to the issues at hand, while keeping the full PMO picture in perspective. The authors illustrate how the PMO can be used to reduce costs of projects, decrease time to market for new products, increase corporate profits, and ensure project success.
This reference covers all aspects of PMO in a format that is easy to read and understand. It discusses the motivations for adopting a PMO, including project performance, project manager competency, the organizational desire to excel, and much more. Both short-term and long-term functions are identified and discussed. WBS-like structures are developed for use in the process of evaluating project performance during the life-cycle of the project.
Ideal for senior project management professionals and as an advanced project management training program, the book presents two related models that deal with the evaluation of project performance from the vantage point of the client as well as the project team. With so many industries becoming project team driven, The Advanced Project Management Office will help project managers ensure project success and improve their company's bottom line.
This book contains select chapters on support vector algorithms
from different perspectives, including mathematical background,
properties of various kernel functions, and several applications.
The main focus of this book is on orthogonal kernel functions, and
the properties of the classical kernel functions-Chebyshev,
Legendre, Gegenbauer, and Jacobi-are reviewed in some chapters.
Moreover, the fractional form of these kernel functions is
introduced in the same chapters, and for ease of use for these
kernel functions, a tutorial on a Python package named ORSVM is
presented. The book also exhibits a variety of applications for
support vector algorithms, and in addition to the classification,
these algorithms along with the introduced kernel functions are
utilized for solving ordinary, partial, integro, and fractional
differential equations. On the other hand, nowadays, the real-time
and big data applications of support vector algorithms are growing.
Consequently, the Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA)
parallelizing the procedure of support vector algorithms based on
orthogonal kernel functions is presented. The book sheds light on
how to use support vector algorithms based on orthogonal kernel
functions in different situations and gives a significant
perspective to all machine learning and scientific machine learning
researchers all around the world to utilize fractional orthogonal
kernel functions in their pattern recognition or scientific
computing problems.

Every aspect of our everyday life has been infiltrated by
technology. In many cases, technology has the potential to increase
productivity in our subjects of study while simultaneously
enhancing social participation. Despite these advantages,
technology and digital services have the potential to have a
detrimental impact on people's emotional, physical, and social
wellbeing. Our interactions with the media have changed as our
lives and expectations have changed. To attain digital wellbeing
and mindfulness, it is not essential to use technology less
frequently. Rather, it is about critically questioning how we use
technology and considering why we use it - do we make a
constructive decision or do we simply let ourselves be lured by the
tempting digital platforms?
