"Thinking Independently" is a philosophy anthology designed to serve all three of the main purposes of an introductory philosophy course:
(1) it familiarizes students with some of the great works and ideas in the history of philosophy
(2) it helps students learn how to discern and evaluate the arguments that are contained in texts

Ram Neta is Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He has also taught philosophy at the University of Utah and at Carnegie Mellon University.
