Livestock production constitutes essentially an integral part of
hill agriculture, particularly in the Himalayas where animals are
rared according to centuries old traditional practices. Inspite of
a large ruminant population milk production is low because of poor
individual cow productivity, which in turn is attributed mainly to
mineral deficiency. Among the different environmental factors, soil
plays a vital role in ruminant animal health and production because
ruminants obtain their nutrient needs from feed and fodder, which
in turn obtain nutrients from the soil.It is important to determine
the mineral concentrations of soils and forages to estimate the
mineral needs of ruminants. The mineral profile of soil, plant, and
animals has been reported in plain regions. However, it has not
been studied in detail in subtropical hill ecosystem. This book
provides a detailed insight of the Soil-fodder-serum micromineral
estimations, their Interrelationships, Steroid hormone (serum
progesterone and oestrogen) and thyroid hormone (T3 and T4)
profiles along with Therapeutic efficacy estimations of the
formulated mineral supplements.
Anatomy & Physiology are key foundational areas of study for
veterinary science students & professionals. Saliva production,
the main function of salivary glands is crucial in the process of
digestion, lubrication & protection in the body. The saliva is
secreted from major & minor sets of salivary glands in domestic
ruminants. Understanding these guiding principles will provide
reader with a better understanding of minor salivary glands of
sheep. This book is organised in a logical reader friendly format.
The chapters cover the fundamentals of gross anatomy, cellular
structure, function, research on minor salivary glands &
methodology adopted. Each chapter is highly illustrated with high
quality images. The broad coverage & abundant illustrations
will provide the readers with a much needed basic understanding of
minor salivary glands
The job of police personnel is often a stressful occupation. They
typically suffer from a variety of physiological, psychological and
behavioral problems. It has been emphasized by number of
psychologists that particular attention should be given to
occupational stress in policing. The potential negative
consequences affect the society directly and indirectly. The police
personnel operating under severe and chronic stress may well be at
greater risk of error, accidents and over-reaction that can
compromise their performance, jeopardize public safety and pose
significant liability costs to the organization. However, they are
not taught with effective stress management strategies to help them
to alleviate these problems. This book is aimed to provide a
practical and positive approach for helping police personnel to
overcome their stress, burnout and anger and to enhance their
coping mechanism through Indian psychological techniques.
Since independence, India has been undertaking developmental
projects to improve the quality of life of its people through
planned development. Especially in the Himalayan region a number of
hydro power projects have been established. Some of the important
hydro power projects in region are Nathpa-Jhakri Hydel Project
(1500 MW), Kol Dam (800 MW), Bhakra Dam (600 MW)Luhri Hydroelectric
Project(465 MW) Parbati project (1,900 MW) and Tehri Dam
Project(600 MW. For the construction of these power projects
large-scale land is acquired from local people. This results in
displacement of people to some other areas. Although, economic
compensation is provided to these families but, however very little
efforts is made to understand the socio-psychological aspects of
the displacement. Thus in the present book authors have made
attempts to analyze the psycho-social impact of displacement due to
the construction one of the largest(1500 MW) underground hydel
power project(NJPC) in one of states of Himalayan region (INDIA),
i.e. Himachal Pradesh. The main focus of study was to understand the
status of mental health of these displaced peopl

Diabetes mellitus is one of the major causes of morbidity and
mortality in the modern world. Persistent hyperglycaemia is
responsible for several complications of diabetes, such as diabetic
retinopathy, diabetic nephropathy, diabetic neuropathy, diabetic
cardiomyopathy, diabetic autonomic neuropathy, diabetic
ketoacidosis, diabetic foot ulcer, gestational diabetes, and
diabetic mastopathy. With the advancement of technology, several
new drugs have been developed for treatment of diabetes and
diabetic complications. Moreover, alternative and complementary
medicines have also been employed to manage diabetes and its
associated complications. Despite the availability of a plethora of
therapeutic agents, the management of diabetes and diabetic
complications is an uphill battle associated with several
limitations. Various leading research groups across the world are
investing billions of dollars to develop impeccable solutions for
the treatment of diabetes and diabetic complications. This book
focuses on the understanding of recent advancements in the
pathogenesis of diabetes and diabetic complications, the molecular
basis of the disease and recent advancements in diabetic treatment.
The chapters are specifically dedicated to different complications
associated with diabetes. Moreover, recent advances in treatments
and medications in clinical trials for these complications are
explained. Some chapters are dedicated to the use of herbal
medicines, alternative and complementary therapy and personalized
medicines. Furthermore, the role of epigenetics in diabetic
complications is described, as well as the role of antidiabetic
drugs and their interactions. Due to its widespread prevalence,
diabetes is presently considered a pandemic. This book provides
contemporary information to researchers and health care
practitioners about diabetes and diabetic complications, which may
pave the way for designing new strategies to manage diabetes and
diabetic complications. Moreover, the insights on alternative and
complementary medicines will help in providing a background for
inclusion of these medicines as an important therapeutic option for
treatment of diabetes.
Lt Gen Sagat Singh is unarguably the only military genius post
independence India has produced. He commenced his military career
through humble beginnings in the Bikaner State Forces with only a
smattering knowledge of English. At the outbreak of World War 2 he
was commissioned as an officer and served in the Middle East with
his Battalion and on staff. By the time the War was over he was the
only officer to have done two staff courses, including the
prestigious course at Quetta. On being absorbed into the Indian
Army after Independence, he was transferred to 3rd Gorkha Rifles,
where he commanded two battalions. He was given command of the Para
Brigade on promotion and led it in the Goa Operations with aplomb.
He was primarily responsible for liberating this Portuguese Colony.
Sagat's drive and energy stood out. On promotion as Major General,
he commanded 17 Mountain Division in Sikkim, where in 1967, in a
bloody skirmish which lasted several days, he gave the Chinese a
bloody nose, proving that the Indian Army was no pushover. That
year he was transferred to Shillong and tasked to curb the Mizo
Insurgency. In two years he succeeded in doing so effectively. In
1970, he was promoted to Lt Gen and given command of 4 Corps. It
seemed his whole life was geared to leading a Corps into battle. In
1971, in a major logistic achievement he moved and staged his Corps
at Agartala. When operations commenced to liberate Bangladesh, his
Corps relentlessly attacked and defeated Pakistan forces, crossed
river lines and terrain considered impassable. His innovative use
of helicopters has never been repeated. His is the only example in
the Indian Army of a successful corps level campaign, which can
stand out historically. His knowledge of the operational art was
perhaps without parallel. He retired in Dec 1974 and settled down
in Jaipur, where till his death in 2001, he tried to ameliorate the
lives of ex-servicemen and his people. His achievements were
recognised by the Government of Bangladesh, when the President,
publicly and formally honoured his son and daughter-in-law in Mar
2013.
