As colleges and universities have responded to the demand of businesses and industries for graduates who can write effectively, Composition Studies has gained significance. However, while new theories and approaches to the teaching of writing have been proposed and implemented, many composition courses do not satisfactorily educate their students. This volume includes essays by writing specialists who are concerned with their own failure to improve their students' writing skills. These contributors examine why entering college students still write poorly and why our various attempts to improve such poor writing skills have largely failed. They compare the promise of previously touted new methods, paradigm shifts, and curricular innovations with the reality of little change or improvement; they describe what their students can and cannot do in the writing classroom, even after 12 years of primary and secondary education; and they address what they see as needed reforms in the whole idea of college composition, especially for the first-year college student.
While vacationing at an island resort, you watch as a small airplane crashes on the beach then bursts into flames. Trapped inside, the pilot tosses a metal canister leaking a black gas free of the plane. Those who breathe in the gas undergo a strange and terrifying transformation. A short while later, they die. Unfortunately, they don't stay dead. As night falls and a storm rolls in off the ocean, the living dead spread across the island like a plague. Before long nowhere is safe, including the hotel where you've been staying. All that matters now is finding a way off the island before you fall prey to the hungry dead. Or become one of them yourself. Whether or not you live through the night depends solely on the choices you make. One bad decision could get you killed. With any luck, you just might find the One Way Out and... Escape from Zombie Island.
They move through the city streets under cover of darkness, claiming human prey. Powerful. Flesh-hungry. Immortal. One short of the thirteen that would make their Coven strong. The master Nicolae has seen in a vision the face of a mortal woman who will claim the vacant position within the Coven. But first she must become... Nameless. It's what they are, what they've always been. And they will stop at nothing to keep it that way.
As far as you know, you are one of only two survivors of the zombie pandemic. The other, a man whose voice you hear on the radio, speaks endlessly of divine retribution and the fall of civilization. In the months since the Outbreak, you've done what you had to do in order to make it through each day, never thinking too much about the future, never putting too much hope in the idea of a better tomorrow. Until... One morning, you hear a second voice on the radio, this one with a message that has you packing a few meager supplies into a duffel bag and driving off across a desolate landscape. The journey that follows will present a seemingly endless variety of dangers: zombies, mutant berserkers, and your fellow human beings among them. Whether or not you live long enough to reach your destination depends solely on the choices you make. One bad decision could get you killed. With any luck, you just might find the One Way Out and... Escape from Zombie Planet.
The demons are waiting... Ancient gods. Flesh-eating immortals. Sentient machines. A gun wielding monster. And a man with a unique and terrible addiction. They all reside within the pages of LETTING THE DEMONS OUT, the debut collection from Ray Wallace, author of ESCAPE FROM ZOMBIE CITY: A ONE WAY OUT NOVEL and THE HELL SEASON. Face your fears. Enjoy the nightmares.
