In these studies Roman Ingarden investigates the nature and mode of
being of four kinds of art works: the musical work, the picture,
the architectural work, and the film. He establishes that the work
of art is a purely intentional object but considers also its
connections to the real world. By analyzing a work of art in its
constitutive heterogeneous strata, Ingarden demonstrates that a
work of art will reveal, when examined in the appropriate way, its
own inherent structure. Further, he shows that in consequence of
the art work's structure, we must distinguish between the work
itself and the concretizations of it by the listener or viewer.
We have needed this book for some time. There is a very wide spectrum of management personnel, engineers in continuing education, specifiers, designers, graduate students--not to omit investors-who need this material as an intensive short course and reference work permanently at hand. Even in recession conditions the pultruded product business has grown by double-digit percentages, and this level of demand will continue as the U. S. infrastructure is renovated. Demand has stirred competition, in turn leading to product refinement. This technology development is taking place in materials, such as processable epoxy systems; in exotic but reliable production systems; and in mold/part complexity. The Handbook of Pultrusion Technology is essential to orient us in the fundamentals. The substance in Ray Meyer's treatment of this RP process is not available in any other compilation. Joseph S. McDermott, Manager Reinforced Plastics/Composites Institute The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. vii Preface Since my retirement five years ago I have had several oppor tunities to review my files and draft reports on pultrusion, especially for overseas clients. This book resulted from organ izing and updating these reports and filling in some of the gaps in my information."
Land managers depend on reliable natural resource information in the development and implementation of conservation strategies and in making decisions regarding resource use. Biological inventories are one of the most basic and important components of that information. The National Park Service (NPS) has undertaken a service-wide initiative to assess and monitor the condition of natural resources in its parks. To achieve this, the Service implemented an Inventory and Monitoring Program among networks of parks in similar settings. The Chihuahuan Desert Network (CHDN) that includes seven parks within this desert ecoregion developed its Inventory and Monitoring plan with network specific objectives.
The Road to Power has often been described as one of Karl Kautsky's most important and revolutionary works. The book also gained prominence as a result of its reception. As Kautsky's last major attack on those who hoped for a gradual "growth into socialism" by means of reforms and coalitions in the autocratic Wilhelmine Empire, it outraged Revisionists in the Social Democratic Party as well as certain trade union leaders.
