Sicherheitsethik ist ein neues Feld. Der vorliegende Band ist der erste, der sich mit diesen Fragen systematisch befasst. Die Notwendigkeit einer Sicherheitsethik entstand aus der Tatsache, dass Sicherheit in den unterschiedlichsten gesellschaftlichen Bereichen zu einem Leitmotiv geworden ist.
