This volume places the development of the Joint Module "Comparative
Studies in Adult Education and Lifelong Learning" (COMPALL) in the
context of international development in higher education and adult
education. Based on this framework, the authors discuss the
development of the joint module in terms of its institutional and
didactical structure as well as participants' motivation and
diversity. The book is divided into three parts: (1)
Internationalisation in Higher Education, (2) Internationalisation
of Higher Education: The Case of Adult Education, and (3)
Internationalisation of Higher Education: The Example of COMPALL.
Adult education has deep connections with employment contexts. This
volume discusses interrelations within transnational contexts
studied during the Wurzburg Winter School on Comparative Studies in
Adult Education and Lifelong Learning (COMPALL). The book shows
that adult education and work contexts are influenced by
international and transnational developments. The findings are
presented in three chapters: Lifelong Learning Policies Targeting
Employment Contexts; Transnational Perspectives on Lifelong
Learning Policies; Employment Perspectives and Professionalisation
in Adult Education.
This volume analyses adult education and lifelong learning as
international phenomena, which have a strong influence on
professionals working in this field. Based on the 2016 Wurzburg
Winter School, the book identifies influences on policy at local,
national and international levels. It examines the
internationalization of adult education and emphasizes the
emergence of different dimensions of professionalism in adult
education.
This volume presents comparisons of adult education and lifelong
learning with a focus on educational policies, professionalization
in adult education, participation in adult learning and education,
quality in adult education, and educational guidance and
counselling. The essays are based on comparisons discussed at the
international Winter School "Comparative Studies in Adult and
Lifelong Learning", held in Wurzburg, Germany, February 2015.
Sub-topics of lifelong learning were chosen for an in-depth
comparison and analysis of the situation in various European
countries and beyond.
What competences are needed in future by people working within
adult and lifelong learning? What pathways of professionalisation
are available to them in Europe and Asia? What are the actual
effects of teacher training? What are the specific responsibilities
of adult and continuing education teachers and trainers? The book
focuses on teachers and trainers in lifelong learning and their
professional development. Therefore it gives an insight into the
state of the art of professional development in Southeast Asia,
Europe, China and India. Furthermore, professionalisation in adult
and lifelong learning is explored under the headings of the effects
of teacher training, role-professionals, competences profiles and
the question of responsibility. It also gives an insight into
initiatives to professionalise the people working in adult and
lifelong learning.
