The water sector is in the middle of a paradigm shift from focusing
on treatment and meeting discharge permit limits to integrated
operation that also enables a circular water economy via water
reuse, resource recovery, and system level planning and operation.
While the sector has gone through different stages of such
revolution, from improving energy efficiency to recovering
renewable energy and resources, when it comes to the next step of
achieving carbon neutrality or negative emission, it falls behind
other infrastructure sectors such as energy and transportation. The
water sector carries tremendous potential to decarbonize, from
technological advancements, to operational optimization, to policy
and behavioural changes. This book aims to fill an important gap
for different stakeholders to gain knowledge and skills in this
area and equip the water community to further decarbonize the
industry and build a carbon-free society and economy. The book goes
beyond technology overviews, rather it aims to provide a system
level blueprint for decarbonization. It can be a reference book and
textbook for graduate students, researchers, practitioners,
consultants and policy makers, and it will provide practical
guidance for stakeholders to analyse and implement decarbonization
measures in their professions.
Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.

Corresponding to the link of Itô's stochastic differential
equations (SDEs) and linear parabolic equations, distribution
dependent SDEs (DDSDEs) characterize nonlinear Fokker-Planck
equations. This type of SDEs is named after McKean-Vlasov due to
the pioneering work of H P McKean (1966), where an expectation
dependent SDE is proposed to characterize nonlinear PDEs for
Maxwellian gas. Moreover, by using the propagation of chaos for Kac
particle systems, weak solutions of DDSDEs are constructed as weak
limits of mean field particle systems when the number of particles
goes to infinity, so that DDSDEs are also called mean-field SDEs.
To restrict a DDSDE in a domain, we consider the reflection
boundary by following the line of A V Skorohod (1961).This book
provides a self-contained account on singular SDEs and DDSDEs with
or without reflection. It covers well-posedness and regularities
for singular stochastic differential equations; well-posedness for
singular reflected SDEs; well-posedness of singular DDSDEs; Harnack
inequalities and derivative formulas for singular DDSDEs; long time
behaviors for DDSDEs; DDSDEs with reflecting boundary; and killed
DDSDEs.
Videogames have always depicted representations of American
culture, but how exactly they feed back into this culture is less
obvious. Advocating an action-based understanding of both
videogames and culture, this book delineates how aspects of
American culture are reproduced transnationally through popular
open-world videogames. Playing American proposes an analytic focus
on open-world videogames' "ambient operations" and traces practices
of "playing American" through the stages of videogame development,
gameplay, and reception. Three case studies – concentrating on
the Grand Theft Auto, Watch Dogs, and Red Dead Redemption
franchises, respectively – highlight different figurations of
"playing American." Thematic foci range from public discourses on
systemic racism and neoliberal capitalism to the justification of
real-world surveillance practices and to the reconfiguration of the
Western in the digital age. Playing American provides those
interested in either videogames or American culture with a fresh
angle and new concepts regarding its subject matters. It
demonstrates that videogames are agents of cultural reproduction
that do distinct cultural work for American culture in the
twenty-first century.
This edited volume offers innovative perspectives on the study of
music as cultural diplomacy in the Middle East and North Africa
(MENA), a region often overlooked in such discussions. It offers an
innovative contribution to the field of ethnomusicology, as well as
political science and international relations, by highlighting the
agency of non-state actors (local voices, communities, and
grassroots organizations), thereby contributing towards
de-centering the state, hitherto conceived as the chief player in
cultural diplomacy. This volume is divided into four main parts
organized along the following themes: 1. History and
Historiography, 2. Migration, Diaspora, and Ethics, 3. Statecraft
and Music Making, and 4. Affective and Sensorial Diplomacy. The
perspectives offered in this volume offer a deeper exploration of
bottom-up initiatives of cultural diplomacy through music, instead
of the more usual analyses of top-down, state-directed programmes.
Overall, the aim is to reconceptualize Middle Eastern, North
African and Arab Gulf musical practices in their relationship to
power and cultural diplomacy in order build a broader and
pluri-dimensional account of these contentious relationships.
This book is for secondary subject matter teachers and
administrators who work with English language learners (ELLs) in
subject matter classes. It is also for college professors who
prepare pre-service teachers to work with those students. The book
brings together insights from linguistic, socio-cultural,
educational, cognitive, developmental perspectives of what it means
for ELLs to learn both English and subject matter knowledge in
English as a second language. It delineates unique challenges that
ELLs experience, offers ELLs' learning stories, and suggests
concrete strategies with classroom teaching examples across
academic disciplines. The 2nd edition broadens the scope of the 1st
edition in several aspects. Specifically, it includes two chapters
about secondary ELLs' previous educational experiences in their
home countries, a chapter on subject matter lesson planning with
ELLs in mind with teacher collaborative strategies, and more
principle- based and field-tested effective instructional and
assessment strategies for working with ELLs.
This second edition updates, complements, and expands upon the
first edition by providing a collection of cutting-edge techniques
developed or refined in the past few years along with
tried-and-true methods. Chapters explore the isolation and
characterization of RNA-protein complexes, the analysis and
measurement of RNA-protein interaction, and related novel
techniques and strategies. Written in the highly
successful Methods in Molecular Biology series format, the
chapters include brief introductions to the material, lists of
necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step, readily
reproducible laboratory protocols, and a Notes section which
highlights tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls.
Authoritative and cutting-edge, RNA-Protein Complexes and
Interactions: Methods and Protocols, Second Edition aims to be
comprehensive guide for researchers in the field.
