First Book and Single Subject Book Awards 2021 Gourmand Cookbook
Award Winner 2020 In 2016 two locals, frustrated at the lack of
opportunities to eat the seafood landed in Ullapool, started a
seafood shack on the harbour of the North West Highlands town.
Serving up whatever their fishermen friends brought them every day,
Kirsty Scobie and Fenella Renwick's crowd funded project was an
instant success and a new book, to be published in November, brings
this to life. In their first book, Kirsty and Fenella tell the
story of Ullapool's Seafood Shack and bring together the recipes
for the fresh, vibrant, ballsy dishes that have made The Seafood
Shack such a Scottish treasure: from their famed Haddock &
Pesto Wrap and the super-luxe Lobster Mac & Cheese to
incredible super-local delicacies like Spiney Popcorn. The Seafood
Shack was born out of a conversation between Kirsty and Fenella out
at sea with their fishermen partners. Ullapool has around twelve
local boats fishing in the clear, icy waters of The Minch: five
prawn trawlers and seven inshore creel boats, with a further two
crabbing boats coming in each week and ten or so white fish boats
landing regularly. The vast majority of this huge variety of
seafood landing daily was then transferred straight onto the back
of a lorry, making it difficult to source it locally. Eager to keep
a little fresh seafood for their hometown, Kirsty and Fenella
opened up The Seafood Shack. The shack swiftly went onto win
recognition, winning the BBC Food & Farming Award for Best
Street food or Takeaway in 2017 and hosting visits from the likes
of Mary Berry and Albert Roux. Kirsty says: "Many tonnes of seafood
are caught in our Scottish seas and then transported straight out
of Ullapool. We wanted to play a part in keeping some of our
seafood local and so the Seafood Shack was born. What we really
love now is being behind the hatches, cooking away and chatting to
our customers as they devour a haddock wrap or peel open some fresh
buttery langoustines. The book tells this story and shares our
approach. What makes the Shack so wonderful to us is its relaxed
feel and we don't have to be stuck in a kitchen behind closed
doors, we can be involved in every aspect. The food we cook is
simple, quick but most importantly fresh and delicious." Punctuated
by the voices of local fishermen, the book celebrates the fishing
industry that has been the beating heart of Ullapool's village life
for 230 years. With both Fenella and Kirsty's partners actively
involved in fishing, The Seafood Shack also reflects the debate
around sustainable fishing. Fenella says: "The people behind our
seafood are a huge part of our story: from Josh's langoustines and
lobsters, Gary's hand-dived scallops and Stephen's white fish to
the team at our local smokehouse or Joe our oyster producer. These
amazing people have been a massive part of our success: at the end
of the day we're not amazing chefs, we're just two girls who love
to cook and having such fantastic and fresh produce is what makes
the Shack work." The Seafood Shack provides over 80 down to earth
recipes and tips for cooking white fish, smoked fish and shellfish.
Kirsty and Fenella's work on the book was recognised when they were
announced as winners of the Jane Grigson Trust Award for New
Writers earlier this year.

This volume brings together a range of miscellaneous short texts by
Voltaire, mostly undated and principally manuscript fragments. From
thoughts on the souls of animals, to how he organised his papers to
a joke proxy granting unlimited powers to act on his behalf, these
scraps shed light on Voltaire's working methods and on the possible
subjects of texts that he never published. Most notably, it
contains a supplement adding nineteen fragments to the edition of
Voltaire's Notebooks (OCV, vol.81-82). Contributors: David Adams,
Andrew Brown, Marie-Helene Cotoni, Nicholas Cronk, Jean Dagen,
Stephanie Gehanne Gavoty, Myrtille Mericam-Bourdet, Christiane
Mervaud, Gillian Pink, John Renwick, Gerhardt Stenger, David
Williams.
This volume contains the general introduction to Voltaire's work of
global history. Written by an international team of experts, the
introduction covers the genesis, publication and reception of the
work, as well as offering a detailed analysis of Voltaire's
historical vision. It also benefits from a full bibliography of
editions published in Voltaire's lifetime. An indispensable
resource for historians and students of the Enlightenment.

Water is becoming an increasingly scarce commodity in many parts of
the world. Population growth plus a growing appetite for larger
quantities of cheap water quality as a result of urban, industrial,
and agricultural pollution coupled with increasing environmental
demands have further reduced usable suppliers. This book brings
together thirty of the best economic articles addressing water
scarcity issues within the US and Mexico. By touching on a number
of different issues, this volume clearly articulates the need for
improving existing institutional arrangements as well as for
developing new arrangements to address growing water scarcity
problems.
'If the United States does not lead, there will be no leadership.
If the US instead turns inward, there will be a price to be paid
later.' - George H. W. Bush Marking thirty years since the end of
George H. W. Bush's presidency, Robin Renwick paints a warm,
affectionate portrait of a President who sought to unify rather
than divide his country, and whose staunch belief in diplomacy
strengthened cooperation around the world. A True Statesman
explores Bush's core belief in the United States as the
'indispensable nation' in helping to deal with world crises,
charting his efforts to end the Cold War, secure the reunification
of Germany and drive Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait. Extending beyond
Bush's time in office, it also reflects on US foreign policy over
the past three decades, examining the consequences of his
successors' differing approaches to America's role on the world
stage. Incisively written by a former British Ambassador to
Washington, this insider account offers fresh insights into both
the 41st President and America's foreign policy from Iran-Contra to
Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

This edition of Voltaire's "Fragments sur l'Inde" is the first ever
scholarly critical edition of a neglected historical text from his
later years. The work, first published in 1773, sees Voltaire
returning to the subject of Indian history, which had interested
him since the first drafts of the "Essai sur les moeurs" in the
1740s. Inspired by the prospect of rehabilitating the memory of the
executed General Lally, the "Fragments sur l'Inde" are in two
parts: the first explores recent colonial enterprises in India and
the disastrous Pondicherry campaign, which was to cost Lally his
life; while the second is a more general meditation on Indian
history, religion and customs. This volume also contains a text
attributable to Voltaire, the "Mandement du muphti, suivi d'un
Decret du divan".
Assessment is messy. Day-to-day, in-the-moment assessments not only
reveal information that drives future instruction but also offer a
comprehensive picture of students' abilities and dispositions
toward learning. As teachers, we might know what this looks and
feels like, yet it can be hard to put into action-hence the
messiness. Say hello to digital student portfolios-dynamic, digital
collections of authentic information from different media, in many
forms, and with multiple purposes. Using digital portfolios to
capture student thinking and progress allows us to better see our
students as readers, writers, and learners-and help students see
themselves in the same way! Matt Renwick's Digital Portfolios in
the Classroom is a guide to help teachers sort through, capture,
and make sense of the messiness associated with assessment. By
shining a spotlight on three types of student
portfolios-performance, process, and progress-and how they can be
used to assess student work, Renwick helps educators navigate the
maze of digital tools and implement the results to drive
instruction.
This volume brings together many of Voltaire's most controversial
reflections on religion and philosophy. In "Le Philosophe ignorant"
Voltaire summarises his doubts about the philosophers of his age
and theories of systematization, seeking to show the limits of
metaphysics. "L'Examen important de milord Bolingbroke" is a
polemical work which uses the excuse of being a 'translation' of a
letter from the English Lord Bolingbroke to diffuse Voltaire's own
radical views. "Andre Destouches a Siam" is a satirical dialogue
between a French musician and a Siamese bureaucrat, presenting a
'utopian' society in which the justice system is arbitrary, based
on archaic traditions and religious fanaticism. "Les Questions de
Zapata" was published as a pamphlet, purportedly by a professor of
theology in Salamanca, on the inconsistencies of the Old and New
Testament.
This book examines a new topic in Human Resource Management (HRM),
green - or environmental - HRM, analysing the role humans play in
environmental management at work and environmental behaviours at
workplaces around the world. The book begins with a focus on
negative workplace green behaviours (e.g. toxic chemical leaks, air
pollution, contaminated waste etc.), and what such environmental
problems mean for workers, managers and society as a whole. This
book outlines relevant, underpinning academic theory and research
literature on how HRM is 'going green', and details real-life
organisational examples derived from original and secondary
empirical research to illuminate the implications of adopting Green
HRM practices for relevant stakeholders. In doing so, the book
offers a new, academic contribution to both the HRM and
environmental management literatures.
Rudolf Steiner cautioned the first Steiner-Waldorf teachers to
understand that it is not what we teach, but who we are, that is
all-important when facing children in a classroom. In this helpful
resource, Renwick draws from Rudolf Steiner's teachings in The
Philosophy of Freedom and presents the wisdom from this text in an
accessible and practical way. He explores the teacher's role and
responsibility in leading young people to maturity. Awakening
Spirit is brief, clear and comprehensive. It offers a new
perspective on the importance of and the strengthening available to
teachers through the study of Steiner's work.

Voltaire s'interesse a l'impact
Science and ethics are not usual bedfellows. Traditionally, ethical
issues fall in the domain of the philosopher or the theologian and
start with first principles. Courses on ethics usually stress the
classics, telling students of the works of Kant or the
Utilitarians, for example, and then posing ethical dilemmas to help
the student work through the process of moral choice informed by
knowledge of the canon in ethics. In this volume, we take a
different tack. We present work that utilizes the tools of science
broadly conceptualized to elucidate ethical issues, assuming that
careful scientific analysis of ethical issues can reveal new
insights. We supplement this with conversations with the authors
some of them preeminent scientists addressing issues of ethics,
including two Nobel laureates and a Templeton Winner to learn how
they came to the study of ethics and ask how they conceptualize and
think about ethical issues. This volume thus provides substantive
insight into particular ethical issues, ranging from issues of
torture during war to parents obligations to children, but it also
reveals how a scientific approach might lead to different insights
into these issues than does a more traditional approach. This book
is designed as a complement to traditional texts on ethics and
should appeal to students (undergraduate and graduate) of ethics as
well as to the general public."

In 1762, Voltaire was at the height of his career, his output
manifold and unceasing despite being close to 70 years of age. This
was the period of Voltaire's life in which his famous battle cry -
'Ecrasez l'Infame!' was first used, as Voltaire's attacks on the
Christian establishment came to a head with the case of Jean Calas,
executed for murder in Toulouse, who Voltaire believed to be an
innocent victim of anti-protestant prejudice. This volume contains
religious fanaticism and superstition which calls for a new age of
tolerance between religions following the injustice of Jean Calas'
death.

Philippe II, Elisabeth Ire, Henri IV, Richelieu.
index analytique.
