Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.
This book brings together an international group of scientists
focusing on present-day and fossil cephalopods, ranging broadly
from Paleozoic ammonoids to today's octopods. It has three general
sections dealing with: systematics and evolution; descriptions of
hard- and soft part morphology; and ecology, biogeography, and
taphonomy. Several highlights include new evidence for the
existence of an ink sac in fossil ammonoids, a biogeographic study
of clymeniid ammonoids throughout the world, the first record of a
radula in baculite ammonoids, and an in-depth study of octopus
ecology in Alaska. The book is remarkable in its treatment of both
fossil and living forms at the same time, with the aim of
presenting the wide diversity of cephalopods now and in the past.
Despite many negative expectations of the 2018 FIFA World Cup,
Russia delivered one of the best World Cups in living memory. This
book brings together leading scholars working in Russian studies,
sociology and political science to analyse the 2018 World Cup and
assess its significance for sport, Russia and the world. The book
explores the connections between sport, soft power, populism,
protest, and international politics, and investigates topics
including security, surveillance, social media and patriotic
mobilization, shining new light on key contemporary themes in the
social sciences. It reflects upon the importance of sporting
mega-events for public diplomacy, and considers what the 2018 World
Cup can tell us about the current condition of Russian society and
the Russian state. This is fascinating reading for anybody with an
interest in soccer, sport and society, Russia, international
politics, events, or post-Soviet societies.

Nationalism is now the dominant narrative in Russian politics, and
one with genuine popularity in society. Russian Nationalism and
Ethnic Violence is a theoretical and empirical study which seeks to
break the concept of "ethnic violence" into distinguishable types,
examining the key question of why violence within the same conflict
takes different forms at certain times and providing empirical
insight into the politics of one of the most important countries in
the world today. Theoretically, the work promises to bring the
content of ethnic identity back into explanations of ethnic
violence, with concepts from social theory, and empirical and
qualitative analysis of databases, newspaper reports, human rights
reports, social media, and ethnographic interviews. It sets out a
new typology of ethnic violence, studied against examples of
neo-Nazi attacks, Cossack violence against Meskhetian Turks, and
Russian race riots. Russian Nationalism and Ethnic Violence brings
hate crimes in Russia into the study of ethnic violence and
examines the social undercurrents that have led to Putin's embrace
of nationalism. It adds to the growing body of English language
scholarship on Russia's nationalist turn in the post-Cold War era,
and will be essential reading for anyone seeking to understand not
only why different forms of ethnic violence occur, but also the
potential trajectory of Russian politics in the next 20 years.

Soil classification and terminology are fundamental issues for the
clear understanding and communication of the subject. However,
while there are many national soil classification systems, these do
not directly correlate with each other. This leads to confusion and
great difficulty in undertaking comparative scientific research
that draws on more than one system and in making sense of
international scientific papers using a system that is unfamiliar
to the reader. This book aims to clarify this position by
describing and comparing different systems and evaluating them in
the context of the World Reference Base (WRB) for Soil Resources.
The latter was set up to resolve these problems by creating an
international 'umbrella' system for soil correlation. All soil
scientists should then classify soils using the WRB as well as
their national systems. The book is a definitive and essential
reference work for all students studying soils as part of life,
earth or environmental sciences, as well as professional soil
scientists. Published with International Union of Soil Sciences

Logic of the Fall is the first book to examine the formal logical
properties of central speeches and dialogues in Paradise Lost,
according to John Milton's formulae, principles, and concerns in
his own Art of Logic. In so doing, this book offers unconventional
but cogent readings of this poem's central issues: the respective
roles and responsibilities of Adam and Eve; the method of Satan's
engineering of the Fall (and on who falls first); the causative
properties of the Fall and the issue of culpability; and Milton's
ultimate legacy for his readership. The Fall of humankind in
Paradise Lost is not due to passion or will over reason, but rather
to « pure reason over « right reason.

Renowned researchers summarize the current knowledge on ammonoid
paleobiology. The book begins with a description of the systematic
position of the Ammonoidea within the Cephalopoda, providing the
phylogenetic framework for the rest of the book. Following
discussions include soft- and hard-part morphology of ammonoids,
rate of growth and ontogeny, and taphonomy and ecology. Closing
chapters explore the distribution of ammonoids in time and space as
well as their extinction at the end of the Cretaceous. With its
diverse viewpoints and new material, this resource will benefit
researchers and graduate students in paleontology, marine biology,
and evolutionary biology.
