A concise, balanced overview of the most important topics in experimental particle physics of the past forty years is presented in this comprehensive study. Beginning with a review of particle physics and electromagnetic and nuclear interactions, the book continues with a discussion of three nearly universal aspects of particle physics experiments: beams, targets and fast electrons. The second part of the text details the properties of various types of particle detectors, such as scintillation and Cerenkov counters, proportional and drift chambers, sampling calorimeters, and special detectors. The last chapter demonstrates how the various aspects of the previous chapters can be integrated in an experimental system. There are numerous references to the research literature, in addition to examples and workable problems.
This book brings together the most important topics in experimental
particle physics in the late twentieth century to give a brief but
balanced overview of the subject. The author begins by reviewing
particle physics and discussing electromagnetic and nuclear
interactions. He then goes on to discuss three nearly universal
aspects of particle physics experiments: beams, targets, and fast
electronics. The second part of the book treats in detail the
properties of various types of particle detector, such as
scintillation counters, Cerenkov counters, proportional chambers,
drift chambers, sampling calorimeters, and specialized detectors.
Wherever possible the author attempts to enumerate the advantages
and disadvantages of performance. Finally, he discusses aspects of
specific experiments, such as properties of triggers, types of
measurement, spectrometers, and the integration of detectors into
coherent systems. First published in 1986, this title has been
reissued as an Open Access publication on Cambridge Core.

FINISHING WELL Finishing Well is the third and final book in our
Well Trilogy, which focuses on establishing our legacy in later
years. Finishing Well gives the reader an opportunity to assess
ultimate contributions while navigating necessary transitions in
life and leadership in order to establish a lasting legacy. This
book is designed to integrate Biblical leadership principals,
lessons, and examples with real life experiences to help the reader
better understand the dynamics and challenges of growing older and
navigating the end game in such a way that they do not hinder God's
ultimate purposes for their lives. To put it simply, we want to
help older (50- 60s) men and women who have started well, lived and
lead well to finish well and leave a lasting legacy for God's
glory, their fulfillment, and the next generation's benefit. Our
focus in this book is finishing well. Our goals include: 1.
Providing an overview of the leadership "landscape" of getting
older so that you can anticipate challenges and opportunities in
order to cooperate with God in his purposes. 2. Providing Biblical
insight and opportunities to examine your spiritual formation and
foundation as they relate to moral, relational, and faith barriers
that if not dealt with can lead to burnout, blowout, or plateauing.
3. Ministering to your inner life as well as providing information
about convergence and afterglow as you prepare to finish well and
establish your lasting legacy. 4. Providing Biblical and real life
insights and examples for navigating the challenges and embracing
the opportunities of end game growth and ministry. It is our desire
that Finishing Well will be a blessing to you. How our life and
leadership ends, how we make critical transitions to empower the
next generation of leaders, and the quality of relationships we
have will determine how we finish and the quality of our legacy.
Unlocking Your Giftedness-What Leaders Need to Know to Develop
Themselves and Others This self study manual gives the most
complete treatment of giftedness on the market. It treats the whole
giftedness set-natural abilities, acquired skills, and spiritual
gifts. It views giftedness from the standpoint of a leader
responsible for developing self and others. Notice especially the
sub-title. This book clarifies and suggests developmental means.
Concepts flow from accumulated research on leaders since 1983. (324

Living and Leading Well is the second book in the Well Trilogy that
also includes Starting Well, for younger emerging leaders, and
Finishing Well, for older experienced leaders. Living and Leading
Well is designed to help you build a strong foundation which can
stand the weight and pressures of mid-life while helping prepare
you to finish well and establish a lasting legacy. Our vision in
writing Living and Leading Well is to provide Biblically based
insights, strategies, and resources to help mid-life "ministers"
(whether they minister in the context of the church, marketplace,
or other social settings) navigate the challenges that come with
getting older, raising kids, and adjusting goals to the realities
of mid-life. The goals of this book include: 1. Providing an
overview of the leadership "landscape" of mid-life so that you can
anticipate challenges and opportunities in order to cooperate with
God in his purposes. 2. Providing Biblical insight and
opportunities to examine your spiritual formation foundation using
the I Timothy 1: 5 Principle to evaluate potential "cracks" in your
foundation that can lead to burnout, blowout, or plateauing. 3.
Ministering to your inner life as well as provide information about
life and leadership purpose through mid-life. 4. Providing Biblical
and real life insights and examples for navigating the challenges
and embracing the opportunities of mid-life growth and ministry as
you prepare yourself to finish well in life and leadership. It is
our desire that Living and Leading Well will be a blessing to you.
Far too many leaders today are loosing their way in mid-life. This
does not have to happen to you We trust that God will meet you in
the pages of this book and that your "strength will be renewed" and
that you will better be able to "fight the good fight" so that
someday you will stand before God and hear, "Well done... good and
faithful servant "
This is a book for emerging leaders. Leaders are individuals who
have the calling, character, and competency to influence others to
accomplish God's purposes. The essence of leadership in the kingdom
of God is influence, not (primarily) position or personal charisma.
You don't have to be a full time worker in Christian ministry to be
a leader. God is calling out people who are willing to serve him in
faithfulness and obedience wherever they make there living or have
an opportunity to impact others. This book is targeted for those
who are responding to the call of God to influence others for the
kingdom. Richard Clinton and Paul Leavenworth are offering this
updated and expanded version of Starting Well with the hope that
our original vision will be enhanced and enlarged so that another
generation of younger emerging leaders will be resourced for
developing a firm foundation upon which their life, leadership, and
legacy will bring honor to God through faithfulness, focus,
fulfillment, and fruitfulness.
This paper back book gives basic shaping processes for a young
emerging leader. Character shaping and early ministry experiences
are crucial to a good start. A good start, that is, building the
foundations of ministry moves a leader on to understand the basic
concept, that ministry flows out of being. Such a paradigm shift,
moving to ministry flowing out of being, is a major step on
continuing well and eventually finishing well.
