"Melting Glaciers" is a collection of contemporary and
free-spirited lyric poetry that expands our awareness and
encourages us to feel one with both nature and mankind.
Author Richard Edgar Zwez's verses inspire a deep longing for
the wonders of the natural world, as well as respect for the
complexity of life. The seemingly endless existence of a massive
glacier is the backdrop for verses that reveal the progression of
time. Just as every glacier is slowly melting, each drop of water
that falls represents another moment that has passed, never to be
experienced again.
From the poignant words of "Decline" to the rising heat of
"Critical," Zwez offers a uniquely creative and introspective
examination of life's most touching moments and demanding
challenges.
The Banana Empire is the fascinating description of life under the
power of the United Fruit Company (now Chiquita) and the Standard
Fruit Company (now Dole). These rich and mighty companies greatly
dominated life in Central America and the Caribbean. Many books and
articles have been written about these powerful companies but none
have exposed personal existence with the sure hand of someone who
lived under their colossal influence like Banana Empire has
achieved.
Life is mysterious. When sex, power, ambition, restless imagination
fueled by learning, and even supernatural intervention come
together a powerful mix is created. When this volatile concoction
appears in life its ultimate results can be unpredictable. The
explosion can be delayed but not forever. Therefore, we are in a
race against time in the mad scramble to bring some sense out of
the turmoil while the opportunity still exists. But it can be
exciting, not to mention funny, as ridiculous clashes occur. Each
one of us has to try to solve the mysteries of life as they come
along in our journey through the years since there is always that
golden city of peace and happiness beckoning to us from the edge of
the horizon.

Miasma is a powerful female archetype. She is a descendant of the
goddess Diana. Miasma has immense powers and incomparable physical
beauty. She is the exhalation of the soil. As such, she is the
guardian of the natural habitat and can harness the tremendous
powers of nature to do her bidding. In the novel, she fights with
all of her fabulous strength the evildoers who try to enrich
themselves at the expense of their fellow men. Throughout the novel
she develops more and into a caring, beautiful, alluring being
whose silvery majesty adds to the splendor of the night. She shows
that she is capable of loving and falling in love. As a fabulous
being, she adds to the lore of Louisiana where tales of the
supernatural have always been fascinating. The novel is filled with
action, adventure, mystery, splendor, and thrills but also is a
work of literary merit.
Johnny Smith is left by his mother at his aunt's home. He becomes
part of a quirky family with silly members. He reaches out to his
neighborhood and to the citizens of New Orleans. When he does he
finds adventures, fun, laughs, and the fiery festivities in the
great ethnic mixture of the Big Easy.
Highly-decorated Vietnam War veteran Jack Leeds, a man in his late
twenties, earned awards for his bravery and fighting expertise in
the war, but after being discharged from the U.S. Army, he has
trouble adjusting to civilian life. Suffering from manic
depression, he has trouble finding employment. After the tragic
death of his parents in a car crash, the only family he knows is
military men and women. Regularly speeding through traffic to get
to a truck stop for breakfast, he seeks to relieve his loneliness
and replete his hunger for human interaction.
History professor Bill Verde and his wife, Millie, learning
about Jack from one of Bill's colleagues and agree to help him get
back on his feet. The married couple's mission in life had become
taking care of down-and-out persons, finding value in each person
they help. How would Jack have them find his value?
When Jack utilizes the skills and discipline he acquired in
Vietnam and thwarts a robbery at a neighborhood store, people begin
to see him as a more responsible citizen. How will Jack respond so
that he can create the fresh start that he desires? Will he again
know Christmas joy?
The novel is set on the fierce island of Kodiak, Alaska, where the
owner of the huge Moorstone mansion is murdered. After his death
the town of Old Harbor takes ownership. The renters of the property
are also killed. Policemen who enter the house disappear without a
trace. Homicide detective Bill Koldak has to solve the baffling
murders. He must also contend with a cranky, envious police chief.
In addition, Bill must deal with the beautiful woman who suddenly
appears in the mansion. The novel appeals to the modern reader
through its sustained action, excitement, development of
characters, richness of settings, humorous situations, romantic
involvement, and range of emotional content.
