The Three Little Pigs go green in the updated children's book The Three Little Green Pigs, LLC: A Recycling Pig Tale. The descendants of the original Three Little Pigs are now in the construction business building green homes out of recyclable materials. A contest pits the pigs against one another and the winner will be able to build his home throughout the town. Using different recyclable materials, the winning pig must satisfy the city inspector (a descendant of the Big Bad Wolf ). The story ends with the wolf purchasing an ecological home that has several modern changes, and the winning pig hiring his two cousins. This is one home that no one can huff and puff and blow the house down Richard Oldenburg is an avid storyteller and volunteers monthly to read to children at libraries and schools in Bear Valley Springs, California. He promotes the "art of imagination" through his storytelling. One evening while discussing old folk and fairy tales with his wife, a thought was planted. Could an old fairytale be brought up to date? The result is this book, now dedicated to his wife of 28 years. A graduate of California State University, Long Beach with a BA and MA in education, the author enjoyed 32 years of teaching and working with staffs throughout California. He now enjoys retirement, his grandchildren, and working with veteran organizations as a bugler. Publisher's website: http: //sbpra.com/RichardOldenburg
A young quail named Quincy loves running so much that he's never even tried to fly. All the other quail tease him and think he's strange. Tired of being made fun of, Quincy decides it's time to learn to fly. The quail enters a contest, and is set to race against a fast road runner bird. Will his running skills come in handy? Has he had enough practice flying so that he can win the race? This insightful, fun story teaches children to value each other's differences. Inspired by his observations of nature at work and play, Richard W. Oldenburg introduces us to Quincy. In this wonderful collaboration with illustrator Elizabeth Lauder, Quincy, a quail who prefers to run rather than fly, brings life lessons to child and parent alike...All too often, children are encouraged to excel in and to practice things in which they do better during their lives ...spending time on their strengths, they grow up with a fear of failure rather than a desire to challenge themselves. Oldenburg brings a humorous, charming, and necessary lesson for children in this irreverently illustrated and written romp through the outdoors, as a quail learns to seize the day. - Todd Rutherford, The Publishing Guru
Music is often called the universal language, and in the charming new children's book, The Musical Dragon: The dragon that wanted to join the band, music plays an important role. When a dragon comes to San Francisco's Chinatown from China just before the Chinese New Year, he hears that a swan has learned to play the trumpet. The dragon tries to play the trumpet too, but each time he plays a tune, disaster strikes. Although a dragon is considered good luck in Asian myths, this dragon is not having any luck at all playing music! The friendly dragon master brings in a band to help solve the problem. Will the band be able to make beautiful music with the dragon? Find out if this musically challenged dragon is really The Musical Dragon. A retired teacher now living in Tehachapi, California, author Richard Oldenburg graduated from Van Nuys High School, whose famous graduates include Marilyn Monroe, Jane Russell and Robert Redford. Inspired by his wife of 26 years and his grandchildren, he writes "to observe children smile as the story unfolds." His next book is an update of The Three Little Pigs. Illustrator Samantha Cerney has loved art ever since a crayon was put in her hand (she now prefers oil paints and pen and ink.) She is a graduate of the Art Institute of San Diego and illustrates children's books and teaches youngsters how to be creative and imaginative in their own artistic pursuits. Samantha is inspired by her family, her faith, and children who show a willingness to learn. Publisher's website: http://sbpra.com/RichardOldenburg
