On a snowy Christmas Eve, a young man named Thomas on his way home
for a family celebration realizes that the candle in his lantern is
about to expire. He stops in a chandler's shop filled with
fantastic wax creations, but instead of admiring them Thomas scorns
the chandler for wasting his time on sculptures that will only
melt. The mysterious old chandler sells him a special Christmas
candle. Back on the bitterly cold street, the young man is accosted
by an old beggar woman. When he lifts his lantern to get a better
look, the candlelight reveals that she is his mother. He gives her
his cloak and only then sees the truth: She is not his mother after
all, but a stranger. The candle tricks him again before he reaches
home, cold and penniless, but richer for his newfound realization
that we are all part of one family.

A heartwarming and inspirational Christmas novel in the tradition
of "The Christmas Box, Grace, The Gift," and "Finding Noel." The
"New York Times" bestselling author of "The Christmas Box "and The
Walk" "series returns with a holiday novel of hope, love, and
redemption.
Dear Reader,
When I was in seventh grade, my English teacher, Mrs. Johnson, gave
our class the intriguing (if somewhat macabre) assignment of
writing our own obituaries. Oddly, I don't remember much of what I
wrote about my life, but I do remember how I died: in first place
on the final lap of the Daytona 500. At the time, I hadn't
considered writing as an occupation, a field with a remarkably low
on-the-job casualty rate.
What intrigues me most about Mrs. Johnson's assignment is the
opportunity she gave us to confront our own legacy. How do we want
to be remembered? That question has motivated our species since the
beginning of time: from building pyramids to putting our names on
skyscrapers.
As I began to write this book, I had two objectives: First, I
wanted to explore what could happen if someone read their obituary
before they died and saw, firsthand, what the world really thought
of them. Their legacy.
Second, I wanted to write a Christmas story of true redemption. One
of my family's holiday traditions is to see a local production of
Charles Dickens's "A Christmas Carol." I don't know how many times
I've seen it (perhaps a dozen), but it still thrills me to see the
change that comes over Ebenezer Scrooge as he transforms from a
dull, tight-fisted miser into a penitent, "giddy-as-aschoolboy" man
with love in his heart. I always leave the show with a smile on my
face and a resolve to be a better person. That's what I wanted to
share with you, my dear readers, this Christmas -- a holiday tale
to warm your season, your homes, and your hearts.
Merry Christmas
The hair-raising action continues for Michael Vey in this charged
third installment of the #1 "New York Times "bestselling series.
Michael, Taylor, Ostin and the rest of the Electroclan have
destroyed the largest of the Elgen Starxource plants, but now
they're scattered across the Amazon jungle. The Elgen have joined
forces with the Peruvian army to capture the Electroclan, and only
Michael has managed to remain free. With his friends due to stand
trial for terrorism--a charge that may carry the death
penalty--Michael will need all his wits and his abilities if he's
to save them.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, Dr. Hatch and his loyal
Electric Children have seized control of the "E.S. Ampere"--the
super yacht the Elgen use as their headquarters. With the Elgen
fleet now under his control, Hatch heads back to Peru to pick up
his army and then begin his quest for global domination.
Michael will have to free his friends then find a way to stop
Hatch, but the organization behind the mysterious voice that has
guided him to this point has been compromised. Hatch knows Michael
and the Electroclan are coming. And he's ready for them.
Can the Electroclan win the battle of the "Ampere"? Or has
Michael's luck finally run out?
"It has been said, 'Seek not your destiny for it is seeking you'."
So begins this new and powerful novel from Richard Paul Evans,
bestselling author of The Christmas Box, The Looking Glass, The
Carousel, and more. In the wake of personal tragedy, two people
meet on a humanitarian mission in Peru, building an orphanage for
homeless children. One is Paul Cook, a former emergency room
doctor, whose glamorous lifestyle, stellar reputation, and
beautiful fiancee are cruelly snatched from him on one fateful,
snowy Christmas Eve. The other is Christine, a shy and
unadventurous young woman, whose fiance leaves her a week before
her wedding. Against a backdrop of poverty and heartache, these two
will discover the strength of the human heart and its boundless
capacity for love.
Michael must save his mother--and protect his powers--in the
electric sequel to the #1 "New York Times "bestselling "Michael
Vey," from Richard Paul Evans.
"I rolled over to my back, struggling for breath. The pain
continued to pulse through my body--a heavy throb followed by a
sharp, crisp sting."
"The man said, "Trust me, there are worse things in this world than
Cell 25.""
Michael, Taylor, Ostin, and the rest of the Electroclan have
escaped from the Elgen Academy in Pasadena and are headed back to
Idaho to plan their next move. But what's waiting for them there
will change everything.
After using their wits and powers to narrowly escape an Elgen trap,
a mysterious voice leads the Electroclan to the jungles of Peru in
search of Michael's mother. Once there, they discover that Dr.
Hatch and the Elgen are far more powerful than anyone realizes;
entire countries have begun to fall under their control. Only the
Electroclan and an anonymous voice now stand in the way of the
Elgen's plan for global domination.
But is the voice that Michael is following really an ally, or is it
just another Elgen trap?""
