In 1971, journalist Raoul Duke (Johnny Depp) and his companion Dr Gonzo (Benicio Del Toro) arrive in Las Vegas, ostensibly so Raoul can cover the Mint 400 off-track race. The duo embark on a massive drugs binge, checking into the Mint hotel before visiting the Bazzoka Circus casino while high on ether. The hedonistic weekend continues the following day, with Raoul and Gonzo meeting various way-out characters along the way. Watch out for cameos by Cameron Diaz, Christina Ricci and Gary Busey in Terry Gilliam's visually stunning adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson's cult novel.
DJ Adrian Cronauer (an Oscar-nominated Robin Williams) causes uproar when he arrives in war-torn 1965 Saigon to take over the early morning radio show. His irreverent humour soon offends the top brass, in the form of Lt. Steven Hauk (Bruno Kirby), but Cronauer becomes a hit with the GIs. Meanwhile, Cronauer shows a more sober side to his character in his romance with Trinh, a local Vietnamese woman (Chintara Sukapatana).
Whoopi Goldberg double bill. In 'Sister Act', Deloris Van Cartier (Goldberg) is a lounge singer with aspirations to be a star, but instead becomes the star witness to a mob murder. She goes to the police, is put into the state witness protection scheme and sent to a nunnery run by a starchy Mother Superior (Maggie Smith). Whilst there Deloris tries to fit in, but finds that everything she does seems to annoy her fellow nuns - until she discovers the choir. In 'Sister Act 2 - Back in the Habit', Deloris is asked to resume the habit of a nun so that she can help raise funds for an ailing ghetto school. Deloris agrees to go undercover as the school's new music teacher.
