Cognitive radios (CR) technology is capable of sensing its
surrounding environment and adapting its internal states by making
corresponding changes in certain operating parameters. CR is
envisaged to solve the problems of the limited available spectrum
and the inefficiency in the spectrum usage. CR has been considered
in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs), which enable wireless devices
to dynamically establish networks without necessarily using a fixed
infrastructure. The changing spectrum environment and the
importance of protecting the transmission of the licensed users of
the spectrum mainly differentiate classical MANETs from CR-MANETs.
The cognitive capability and re-configurability of CR-MANETs have
opened up several areas of research which have been explored
extensively and continue to attract research and development. The
book will describe CR-MANETs concepts, intrinsic properties and
research challenges of CR-MANETs. Distributed spectrum management
functionalities, such as spectrum sensing and sharing, will be
presented. The design, optimization and performance evaluation of
security issues and upper layers in CR-MANETs, such as transport
and application layers, will be investigated.
This book introduces a variety of intelligence phenomena starting
from the birth of the universe, including intelligence in physics,
intelligence in chemistry, intelligence in biology, intelligence in
humans and intelligence in machines. It uncovers the mystery of
intelligence to the world and explores the natural phenomenon of
intelligence. If understanding intelligence is regarded as a
journey of a thousand miles, then this book is the first step to
try. In the process of studying the phenomenon of intelligence and
the nature of intelligence, our eyes cannot be limited to human
intelligence. Instead, one should put our vision beyond human
intelligence, consider different things in the universe, reach a
new level, and study and explore the phenomenon of intelligence and
the essence of intelligence on a new level. By looking at the
various phenomena of intelligence since the birth of the universe,
readers can see that intelligence is a natural phenomenon, similar
to other natural phenomena (e.g., the rolling of rocks and the
melting of snow and ice). These phenomena occur to facilitate the
stability of the universe, and the phenomenon of intelligence is no
exception. The book is divided into 10 chapters, covering matter,
energy and space in the origin of the universe, gravity in physics,
the principle of least action, dissipative structures in chemistry,
entropy increase, maximum entropy production, the definition of
life, the emergence of life, the intelligence in plants, the
intelligence in animals, the neocortex structure of the brain, the
special thinking of human beings, the theory of the brain,
artificial intelligence symbolism, connectionism, behaviorism,
artificial general intelligence, metaverse, etc. This book can be
used as a reference for students and researchers working in the
artificial intelligence areas. It is also positioned as a popular
science book interested in intelligent phenomena.
This book features the major research advances on integrated
networking, caching, and computing. Information-centric
networking-based caching is one of the promising techniques for
future networks. The cloud computing paradigm has been widely
adopted to enable convenient, on-demand network access to a shared
pool of configurable computing resources. In addition, fog/edge
computing is proposed to deploy computing resources closer to end
devices. From the perspective of applications, network, cache and
compute are underlying enabling resources. How to manage, control
and optimize these resources can have significant impacts on
application performance.
With rapid population explosion, improving rail transit speed and
capacity is strongly desirable around the world.
Communication-based train control (CBTC) is an automated train
control system using high capacity bidirectional train-ground
communications to ensure the safe operation of rail vehicles. This
book presents the latest advances in CBTC research. The contributed
chapters from leading experts in the field cover different aspects
of modelling, analysis, design, testing, management, deployment,
and optimization of CBTC systems. Advances in Communications-Based
Train Control Systems begins with the background and evolution of
train signaling/train control systems. It introduces the main
features and architecture of CBTC systems and describes current
challenges and successful implementations around the world.
Subsequent contributed chapters discuss such key research areas as
Nondestructive testing techniques that can be employed to inspect
rails and fastening parts New wireless channel modelling techniques
for underground tunnels and viaducts Advanced wireless
communication systems to improve CBTC communication availability
Schemes to integrate train control and train-ground communications
by modelling the control system of a group of trains in CBTC as a
networked control system Use of cognitive control to improve train
control performance, considering both train-ground communication
and train control The book includes many supporting illustrations
and tables along with a valuable set of references at the end of
each chapter. With this book, researchers and practitioners will be
well-equipped to advance the research and development in this
important field.
This Springerbrief presents a deep reinforcement learning approach
to wireless systems to improve system performance. Particularly,
deep reinforcement learning approach is used in cache-enabled
opportunistic interference alignment wireless networks and mobile
social networks. Simulation results with different network
parameters are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed
scheme. There is a phenomenal burst of research activities in
artificial intelligence, deep reinforcement learning and wireless
systems. Deep reinforcement learning has been successfully used to
solve many practical problems. For example, Google DeepMind adopts
this method on several artificial intelligent projects with big
data (e.g., AlphaGo), and gets quite good results.. Graduate
students in electrical and computer engineering, as well as
computer science will find this brief useful as a study guide.
Researchers, engineers, computer scientists, programmers, and
policy makers will also find this brief to be a useful tool.
