For almost three decades, Cormac McCarthy solidified his reputation
as an American "writer's writer" with remarkable novelssuch as his
"Appalachian Tales, The Orchard Keeper, Outer Dark, Child of God,"
"Suttree," and his terrifying Western masterpiece, "Blood
Meridian." Then, with the publication of "All the Pretty Horses,"
the first work of his celebrated "Border Trilogy" in 1992,
McCarthy's popularity exploded on to a world stage. As his
reputation burgeoned with the publications of "The Crossing" and
"Cities of the Plain," the critical response to McCarthy has grown
apace.
Distributed by the University of Nebraska Press for Whale and Star
Press This limited edition book documents the creation of four
music albums in the Nomad Series. The 144-page full-color,
hardcover book, wrapped in linen with a CD inset designed to hold
the four volumes of the series, was designed and produced by
Enrique Martinez Celaya. The book includes work drafts and photos
relating to the creation of the Nomad Series as well as lyrics,
essays, and original art work by Celaya.
In 2005, Cormac McCarthy's novel, No Country for Old Men, was
published to wide acclaim, and in 2007, Ethan and Joel Coen brought
their adaptation of McCarthy's novel to the screen. The film earned
praise from critics worldwide and was honored with four Academy
Awards (R), including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted
Screenplay. In No Country for Old Men: From Novel to Film, scholars
offer varied approaches to both the novel and the award-winning
film. Beginning with several essays dedicated entirely to the novel
and its place within the McCarthy canon, the anthology offers
subsequent essays focusing on the film, the adaptation process, and
the Coen Brothers more broadly. The book also features an interview
with the Coen brothers' long-time cinematographer Roger Deakins.
This entertaining and enriching book for readers interested in the
Coen Brothers' films and in McCarthy's fiction is an important
contribution to both literature and film studies.
