A vivid and immersive story of obsession perfect for fans of dark
academia and Donna Tartt's The Secret History Oliver Marks has just
served ten years for the murder of one of his closest friends - a
murder he may or may not have committed. On the day he's released,
he's greeted by the detective who put him in prison. Detective
Colborne is retiring, but before he does, he wants to know what
really happened ten years ago. As a young actor studying
Shakespeare at an elite arts conservatory, Oliver noticed that his
talented classmates seem to play the same roles onstage and off -
villain, hero, tyrant, temptress - though Oliver felt doomed to
always be a secondary character in someone else's story. But when
the teachers change up the casting, a good-natured rivalry turns
ugly, and the plays spill dangerously over into life. When tragedy
strikes, one of the seven friends is found dead. The rest face
their greatest acting challenge yet: convincing the police, and
themselves, that they are blameless.
The Hill was named for its proximity to the highest point in St.
Louis. Italians, mainly from Northern Italy, immigrated to the area
starting in the late 1800s; however, by 1910, Sicilians were also
immigrating to the Hill. Agencies in Italy were employed by mining
companies and other industries to help Italian citizens gather all
the required documentation for immigration. Italians came to the
Hill because of its proximity to the factory and the mines and
because it was a district that allowed them to purchase land and
build a home. The Parish of St. Ambrose was founded 1903. After the
original church was destroyed by fire, the new church was completed
in 1926. The Hill has been home to some of St. Louis's nationally
known residents, including baseball heroes Joe Garagiola and
Lawrence "Yogi" Berra.

Life under Brazil’s brutal “cordial racism” comes painfully
alive in this novel of fathers and sons. How do you become the
protagonist of your own life? For Pedro, it means searching for his
murdered father in the objects he left behind—an archeology of
affections. Investigating and retracing his family’s trajectory
through the streets of the city of Porto Alegre and the morass of
Brazil’s pervasive racism, violence, and bankrupt institutions,
Jeferson TenĂłrio takes on fathers and sons, Shakespeare and
Cervantes, and the inescapable bonds and burdens of family and
history in one delicately rendered, painfully precise account of
loved ones lost and found.
A trip to the castle ruins leads to brand-new, daring adventure for
our beloved blue-haired heroine. When she stumbles across the
faratok tree and finds herself in the Time of Giants, Hilda learns
all about the Giant Slayer. Desperate to help the Giants and
negotiate peace, can Hilda change the past, whilst struggling with
her own?
Lawyers usually describe a revolution as a change in a
constitutional order not authorized by law. From this perspective,
to speak of a 'lawful' or an 'unlawful' revolution would seem to
involve a category mistake. However, since at least the 19th
century, courts in many jurisdictions have had to adjudicate claims
involving questions about the extent to which what is in fact a
revolutionary change can result in the creation of a legally valid
regime. In this book, the authors examine some of these judgments.
Adjudicating Revolution includes, first, cases in which courts
decide to recognize the actions of a de facto regime under a
doctrine of necessity, with the objective of maintaining public
order. Second, cases where courts directly confront the question of
whether a revolution has resulted in the creation of a genuinely
new constitutional order. Finally, cases in which courts are asked
by state officials to recognize, in advance, the validity of
otherwise revolutionary changes (i.e. the irregular creation of a
new constitution) proposed by state officials. The book examines,
from a theoretical and comparative perspective, judgments from
North and Latin America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Placing the
cases in their historical and political context, the authors
provide an understanding of key moments in the constitutional
history of the relevant jurisdictions. The resulting analysis will
be of interest to academics and graduate students of comparative
constitutional law and constitutional theory, political science,
and related disciplines.
In recent years, smart devices have become commonplace in our daily
lives. On the internet of things (IoT), these devices powered new
intelligent services. Their application enabled the rise of
intelligent cities, smart agriculture, and Industry 4.0. However,
smart devices collect and share large amounts of data, including
the habits and preferences of their users. Cybersecurity incidents
in intelligent environments may impact services used by millions
across the world and make private information public. Information
Security and Privacy in Smart Devices: Tools, Methods, and
Applications presents research challenges, innovative insights, and
trends related to solutions, methods, processes, and applications
for maintaining information security and privacy in intelligent
environments. Covering topics such as information retrieval
methods, electronic health records, and misinformation detection,
this premier reference source is an excellent resource for security
professionals, government officials, business leaders and
executives, IT managers, hospital administrators, students of
higher education, librarians, researchers, and academicians.
How can a group be empowered to improve their ability to make
decisions while also reinforcing the group's intended values,
beliefs, and behaviors? Like positive reinforcement, which
introduces a desirable or pleasant stimulus after a behavior has
been completed and has been found to be effective for reinforcing
such behavior, serious games introduce the behavior as a pleasant
experience through engagement and entertainment. Where positive
reinforcement relies heavily on the willpower of the subject to
complete the behavior on their own, serious games introduce a
motivational factor from the beginning of the behavior. Serious
games are designed for purposes other than entertainment, such as
training, learning, creating awareness, or behavior transformation
through the introduction of content, topics, narratives, rules, and
goals. They are immersive, engaging, and enjoyable, which enhances
motivation and learning. The development of serious games is
grounded in theoretical backgrounds, such as motivation,
constructivism, flow experience, problem-based learning, and
learning by doing. This method has been used in a variety of
industries, including education, healthcare, military, policy
analysis, and business functions such as marketing or financial
purposes. They facilitate problem solving through challenges and
rewards and use entertainment and engagement components. Serious
games can address specific skills for many domains, foster
collaboration, provide risk-free environments, and be used as
analytical tools for educational research. They reinforce intended
values, beliefs, and behaviors of players while conveying
knowledge, skills, and attitudes, providing an integrated and
effective approach to the transformation of an individual, group,
or organization. Decision-Making Capabilities Improvement With
Serious Games: Research and Practice discusses the use of advanced
technologies including extended and immersive reality, digital
twins, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), mixed reality
(MR), and IoT sensors to improve decision-making skills and
learning through serious games. This book discusses user
engagement, game adaptation, content adaptation, and sensor
technology. It showcases how to increase decision-making skills in
individuals and organizations and incorporates the latest
developments in artificial intelligence and machine learning. Led
by experts with over 20 years of experience and covering topics
such as serious game design, intelligent content adaptation, and
machine learning algorithms. This book is designed for
professionals in education, instructional designers, curriculum
developers, program developers, administrators, educational
software developers, policymakers, researchers, training
professionals, privacy practitioners, government officials,
consultants, IT researchers, academicians, and students.
