Conduction in Carbon Nanotube Networks - Large-Scale Theoretical Simulations (Hardcover, 2015 ed.): Robert A. Bell Conduction in Carbon Nanotube Networks - Large-Scale Theoretical Simulations (Hardcover, 2015 ed.)
Robert A. Bell
R3,481 Discovery Miles 34 810 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This thesis exploits the ability of the linear-scaling quantum mechanical code ONETEP to analyze systems containing many thousands of atoms. By implementing an electron transport capability to the code, it also investigates a range of phenomena associated with electrical conduction by nanotubes and, in particular, the process of transport electrons between tubes. Extensive work has been done on the conductivity of single carbon nanotubes. However, any realistic wire made of nanotubes will consist of a large number of tubes of finite length. The conductance of the resulting wire is expected to be limited by the process of transferring electrons from one tube to another. These quantum mechanical calculations on very large systems have revealed a number of incorrect claims made previously in the literature. Conduction processes that have never before been studied at this level of theory are also investigated.

John G. Jung, Louis A. Zacharilla, Robert A. Bell
R406 Discovery Miles 4 060 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The Top Seven Intelligent Communities of 2012 - named by the Intelligent Community Forum - have created uniquely powerful innovation ecosystems on a foundation of information and communications technology. This book provides in-depth profiles of the Top Seven and depicts how they bring together business, government and institutions in a dynamic partnership that produces results ranging from better and cheaper service delivery to citizens to the birth and growth of entrepreneurial businesses and vital new institutions. Intelligent Communities are pioneers in the complex collaboration that powers innovation today and are experts at building an innovation culture that attracts talent, investment and global recognition. By becoming platforms for innovation, Intelligent Communities create a better life for citizens on all rungs of the economic ladder and a vibrant future for the next generation.

Robert A. Bell, Tamara E. Bond; Daniel Fryer
R188 Discovery Miles 1 880 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

There is a lot of talk these days about the space business. It may be about new and cheaper ways to launch rockets. Or maybe it's about space planes like SpaceshipOne, spaceports being built in the desert, or space tourism and space hotels. It's all good stuff. But when it comes to real business in space, there is only one: the satellite business. It's the only one that makes money today and has been making money for decades. If the satellite business sounds like an interesting place to start a career, you're in the right place. In the pages of Liftoff, you can learn about the industry, the kind of careers it offers, the qualifications they require, and the best ways to get a career started.
