Conversations Overheard in a Restaurant - Poems (Hardcover): Robert Alan Clanton Conversations Overheard in a Restaurant - Poems (Hardcover)
Robert Alan Clanton
R629 Discovery Miles 6 290 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Conversations Overheard in a Restaurant is a collection of poetry. At times playful, at times moody...at times funny and at times atmospheric, Conversations Overheard in a Restaurant--Robert Alan Clanton's first published collection of poems--invites the reader to observe both the universal and the unfamiliar through this poet's specialized lens. Though approachable and direct, these poems are never ordinary, and surprises often lurk around the corner. From his deeply personal memories of childhood and teenage years, to bittersweet stories of love found and love lost, to his reverent and sometimes spiritual observations of earth and nature, Clanton's poems tease the reader into turning each page in search of the next cinematic vignette. Often tactile and sensory, Clanton's imagery beckons us into each place and time: the shrouding snow and bitter chill of Medicine Wheel Passage, Wyoming; the palpable tension between friends in Still Life in Afternoon Light; the playful eroticism and olfactory enticement of Recipe for Pasta Primavera; the harmonious, mystical forces of natural beauty found in Chapel of the Transfiguration; and the idyllic thread of a fourth generation Floridian's love of unspoiled places in Resurrection Fern. Conversations Overheard in a Restaurant is a collection of snapshots, stories and little movies--bound together in the enticing form of the carefully crafted narrative poem, and there are flavors and textures here to please the palate of anyone who savors contemporary poetry.

Get ready for some candid views on politics and society that are "Politically Un-Correct." Yes, you read that right-"un-correct."

Author Robert Alan, a military veteran, lifelong worker, and patriot, takes America's politicians to task and calls for real leadership to get the country back on track. He attacks the wasteful spending by members of Congress, the misguided policies of President Barack Obama, the abuse of foreign aid, and much more.

More importantly, he offers a blueprint to solve our most serious problems, which includes eliminating the US Senate and transferring its responsibilities to the House of Representatives;
mandating that no one in the unicameral Congress serve more than eight years in office;
passing an amendment that denies Congress the right to exempt itself from any laws.

It's time for the government to stop spending money it doesn't have while sending out thugs from the Internal Revenue Service to collect from its hardworking people. Learn more about Alan's "un-correct" views, and join him at the ballot box to throw out the thieves and scalawags that are ruining the United States of America.

History of the Clan Lundy, Lundie, Lundin - One of the Most Ancient Families of the Kingdom of Scotland: A History and Genealogy from the 11th Century to the Present Day (Hardcover)
Robert Alan , Lundie Smith
R1,274 Discovery Miles 12 740 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The history of many of the great houses and families of Scotland are well documented in literature, and by clan associations and individuals on the Internet. The family of Lundie (Lundy, Lundin, Lundyn) is described, by Sir Robert Douglas in his Baronage, as one of the most ancient in Scotland; its history however up until now is almost un-documented. Most lists of Scottish Clans and families seem to omit this family. The few books that do include details; with one notable exception, Lundins of Fife, by G. T. Welsh; provide very little information. In fact the short paper by Welsh is the only text so far printed that was solely dedicated to this family's history. This lack of documentation of the Lundie family is quite remarkable given, as shall be discussed in full later, the fact that members of this family have occupied many high offices in Scotland; including those of Lord High Treasurer, Chancellor, Chamberlain, Hereditary Doorward (personal body guard to the King), and Member of the Council of Regents of the Kingdom.They have performed duties as hosts, ambassadors and representatives of the Sovereign; voted for Wallace as Protector of Scotland, fighting by his side in Scotland's fight for Independence; and played an important role in the reformation of the church in Scotland. Indeed many of the heads of "Great" families of Scotland, have direct descent from this house through marriage with daughters of the various branches of the Lundie family. By taking what has been written by historians so far, it has really only been through reading the histories of these other families and noting their intermarriage with Lundies, that one could form an idea of their high social standing and historical importance.

Triaging the Streaming Wars: Robert Alan Brookey, Jason Phillips, Tim Pollard Triaging the Streaming Wars

R4,619 Discovery Miles 46 190 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This volume considers the different implications of the rise of streaming services and their particular acceleration during the COVID-19 pandemic. Exploring the significant disruption caused to the entertainment industries by the rise of these streaming services, a team of international scholars examine changes to labor issues and compensation, which were central to the conflict between the Writers Guild of America members and their agents, the broadening divide between networks and affiliates, the significant consolidation of the media industry resulting from Disney’s acquisition of Fox ahead of the launch of Disney+, and the variety of business models behind these services that defy the traditional advertising models and standard revenue streams. This thorough and multifaceted look at this rapidly growing section of the entertainment industry will be of interest to academics and students working in film and TV studies, media industry studies, digital media studies, business, and communication studies.

R4,007 Discovery Miles 40 070 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Reasserting the Disney Brand in the Streaming Era investigates the evolution of the Disney brand at a pivotal moment – the move from content creation to acquisition and streaming – and how the company reasserted its brand in a changing marketplace. Exploring how Disney’s acquisition of Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm and Fox positioned the company to launch the Disney+ streaming service, the chapters look at the history of those acquisitions, and the deployment of the content, brands, and intellectual property from those acquisitions, through an analysis of the original content that appeared on Disney+. Offering a focused investigation of how the content offered from these various media brands was adapted for Disney+ so that it reflects the Disney brand, the authors illustrate through close textual analysis how this content reflects elements of the "Classic Disney Style." The analysis positions these texts in relation to their industrial contexts, while also identifying important touchstone texts (both television and film) in Disney's catalog. This comprehensive and thoughtful analysis will interest upper-level students and scholars of media studies, political economy, Disney studies, media industries and new technology.

Over the past several decades the seeming escalation of crimes involving sexually deviant, coercive, and aggressive behavior has become an increasingly serious problem, manifested in costs to both victims and society at large. The long-term psychological impact of sexual assault on adult and child victims has been documented numerous times. The costs incurred by society include a network of medical and psychological services provided to aid victim recovery, the investigation, trial, and incarceration of offenders-often in segregated units or special facilities-and the invisible but tangible blanket of fear that forces potential victims to schedule normal daily activities around issues of safety. Despite the gravity of the problem, there has been a paucity of empirical research directed at the etiology, course, remediation, and management of sexually deviant and coercive behavior. In treating these disorders and in making crucial decisions about how to manage these offenders, clinicians have been forced to rely on their personal experience. Such experience by its nature is unsystematic and lacks the validation that empirical research provides. The lack of sound empirical data addressing the problem is certainly noteworthy, though not surprising. The paucity of research in this area may well be attributable to historical scientific timidity about most aspects of sexual behavior. In 1922 Dr. Robert L.
