In 1999, Robert Boeder finally finished the Hardrock 100 Mile
Endurance Run after three failures. In this first person narrative,
he describes the challenges of completing this most difficult of
all 100 mile trail races. He also writes about the history of the
San Juan Mountains, where the race takes place, and the town of
Silverton, Colorado, Hardrock 100 race headquarters. Boeder is the
author of Beyond the Marathon: The Grand Slam of Trail
Ultrarunning, and two novels, The Chinese Laundry. A Novel of the
San Juan Mountains, and Silverton Burning.
Silverton Burning tells the story of Jimmy Bluebird, a part-Indian
environmental activist and arsonist hiding from federal authorities
in a small mountain town in Southwestern Colorado. Readers are
introduced to the history of the area plus a colorful cast of
Silverton characters headlined by the San Juan County Sheriff,
Marge Winterbottom. The book examines man's relationship with
nature and shows what happens when the interests of saving
historical structures, deep ecology and big business collide in an
atmosphere of political corruption.

Run, the Leadville Trail 100 and the Wasatch Front 100 Mile
Endurance Run. Boeder lives in Silverton, Colorado, where he runs
and writes every day.
The wintry San Juan Mountains provide the backdrop for this tale of
one man's struggle against discrimination in a Victorian era
Colorado mining town. Lee, a Chinese laundryman, has already been
run out of Central City. He desperately wants to avoid the same
fate in Silverton, but forces beyond his control conspire against
him. Anyone who visits the Four Corners area or rides the Durango
and Silverton Narrow Guage Railroad will enjoy this story filled
with authentic details of everyday life in the late 19th century
West.
