An expert summary of our current understanding of bipolar disorder,
this reference examines existing theories, treatment regimens, and
clinically relevant applications by world authorities in
psychiatric research. Divided into four main sections, this guide
delves into the diagnosis and epidemiology of bipolar disorder and
progresses to discussions of patient care, emerging management
approaches, and the underlying biology of the disease.
The LNCS journal Transactions on Aspect-Oriented Software
Development is devoted to all facets of aspect-oriented software
development (AOSD) techniques in the context of all phases of the
software life cycle, from requirements and design to
implementation, maintenance and evolution. The focus of the journal
is on approaches for systematic identification, modularization,
representation, and composition of crosscutting concerns, i.e., the
aspects and evaluation of such approaches and their impact on
improving quality attributes of software systems. This volume, the
12th in the Transactions on Aspect-Oriented Software Development
series, contains one regular paper, on modular reasoning in
aspect-oriented languages from a substitution perspective, and four
extended, improved papers selected from those presented at
Modularity 2014. Topics covered include novel dynamic semantics
through delegation proxies, modularity potential detection based on
co-change clusters, improvements in reusability for components of
semantic specifications of programming languages, and probabilistic
model checking applied to dynamically generated members of a
product line.
A meditation and prayer companion for Christians who struggle with
depressionThe stigma around mental illness in our culture has had a
damaging effect on those who suffer from its grip. As a priest and
bishop, Hirschfeld has quietly and secretly been in treatment for
depression for decades but now shares his own experience publicly.
In this book, he offers short meditations, prayers, and suggestions
of how one can follow and call upon Jesus for strength and peace
during times of emotional upheaval. Christians often feel that
their experience of depression or mental illness is a reflection of
a deficit in their faith. As a result of seeing depression as a
moral shortcoming or spiritual failure, we risk more damage to
ourselves and even hurt those around us by denying what is really
going on. This book, with its prayers and practical suggestions for
spiritual and creative practices and resilience, can be a companion
for those who suffer so that they may know more deeply the
resilient love of Jesus.
The Workshop on Self-sustaining Systems (S3) is a forum for the
discussion of topics relating to computer systems and languages
that are able to bootstrap, implement, modify, and maintain
themselves. One property of these systems is that their
implementation is based onsmall but powerfulabstractions;examples
include (amongst others) Squeak/Smalltalk, COLA, Klein/Self,
PyPy/Python, Rubinius/Ruby,
andLisp.Suchsystemsaretheenginesoftheirownreplacement, giving
researchers and developers great power to experiment with, and
explore future directions from within, their own small language
kernels. S3 took place on May 15-16, 2008 at the
Hasso-Plattner-Institute (HPI) in Potsdam, Germany. It was an
exciting opportunity for researchers and prac- tioners interested
in self-sustaining systems to meet and share their knowledge,
experience, and ideas for future research and development. S3
provided an - portunity for a community to gather and discuss the
need for self-sustainability in software systems, and to share and
explore thoughts on why such systems are needed and how they can be
created and deployed. Analogies were made, for example, with
evolutionary cycles, and with urban design and the subsequent
inevitable socially-driven change.
TheS3participantsleftwithagreatersenseofcommunityandanenthusiasm
for probing more deeply into this subject. We see the need for
self-sustaining systems becoming critical not only to the
developer's community, but to e- users in business, academia,
learning and play, and so we hope that this S3 workshop will become
the ?rst of many.
