Founded in 1823, Cazenove & Co. was the most prestigious
stockbroking firm in the City of London, celebrated for its fabled
placing power and for its unrivalled network of client
relationships. Fiercely independent, the firm had always maintained
a low profile, shunning the press and refusing to disclose details
of its own affairs or those of its clients. When Big Bang
revolutionised the City in 1986, Cazenove was the only one of the
major stockbroking partnerships to stand apart from the merger
frenzy which followed, rejecting the conventional wisdom of the day
and resolutely following its own path. So the City was stunned
when, in November 2000, Cazenove announced that it would abandon
its partnership structure, raise external capital and list its
shares on the London Stock Exchange. Working closely with Chairman
and City legend David Mayhew, Robert Pickering led the firm as
Chief Executive throughout this period, as the pair sought to
define Cazenove's future in an industry which was becoming
increasingly dominated by huge international banks. Blue Blood is a
first-hand account of what it was like to manage an investment bank
through a period of tumultuous change, and how Cazenove evolved
from a private partnership into a modern investment bank as part of
the hard-charging American giant J.P. Morgan.

by a senior City insider of what it feels like to manage an
investment bank through a period of tumultuous change and of the
cultural differences between a private British firm and a

Blood is not only a compelling story about a City icon but also
contains numerous anecdotes about the well-known City and Wall
Street figures who the author met during the course of his long
City career.
This is the first book to bring F# to the world. It is likely to
have many imitators but few competitors. Written by F# evangelist,
Rob Pickering, and tech reviewed by F#'s inventor, Don Syme, it is
an elegant, comprehensive introduction to all aspects of the
language and an incisive guide to using F# for real-world
professional development. It is detailed, yet clear and concise,
and suitable for readers at any level of experience. Every
professional .NET programmer needs to learn about Functional
Programming (FP), and there's no better way to do it than by
learning F# - and no easier way to learn F# than from this book.
Functional programming (FP) is the future of .NET programming,
and F# is much more than just an FP language. Every professional
.NET programmer needs to learn about FP, and there's no better way
to do it than by learning F#, and no easier way to learn F# than
from Foundations of F#.
If you're already familiar with FP, youll find F# the language
youve always dreamed of. All .NET programmers will find F# an
exciting real-world alternative to C# and Visual Basic. This book
is likely to have many imitators, but few true competitors. Written
by F# evangelist Rob Pickering, and tech reviewed by F#'s main
designer, Don Syme, this is an elegant, comprehensive introduction
to all aspects of the language and an incisive guide to using F#
for real-world professional development. F# is the future of
programming (not just on .NET), and the future is now. Table of

This book is a great foundation for exploring functional-first
programming and its role in the future of application development.
The best-selling introduction to F#, now thoroughly updated to
version 4.0, will help you learn the language and explore its new
features. F# 4.0 is a mature, open source, cross-platform,
functional-first programming language which empowers users and
organizations to tackle complex computing problems with simple,
maintainable and robust code. F# is also a fully supported language
in Visual Studio and Xamarin Studio. Other tools supporting F#
development include Emacs, MonoDevelop, Atom, Visual Studio Code,
Sublime Text, and Vim. Beginning F#4.0 has been thoroughly updated
to help you explore the new features of the language including:
Type Providers Constructors as first-class functions Simplified use
of mutable values Support for high-dimensional arrays Slicing
syntax support for F# lists Reviewed by Don Syme, the chief
architect of F# at Microsoft Research, Beginning F#4.0 is a great
foundation for exploring functional programming and its role in the
future of application development.
Functional programming is perhaps the next big wave in
application development. As experienced developers know, functional
programming makes its mark by allowing application builders to
develop solutions to complicated programming situations cleanly and
efficiently. A rich history of functional languages, including
Erlang and OCaml, leads the way to F#, Microsoft's effort to bring
the elegance and focus of functional programming into the world of
managed code and .NET.
With Beginning F#, you have a companion that that will help you
explore F# and functional programming in a .NET environment. This
book is both a comprehensive introduction to all aspects of the
language and an incisive guide to using F# for real-world
professional development.
