for SATB (with divisions) unaccompanied Originally published in the
New Horizons collection Cantica Nova, this expansive Advent motet
creates a unique sound world through unusual harmonic inflections,
striking spatial effects, unmeasured notation, and haunting soprano
and tenor solos. Featured on CDs by Ex Cathedra (Christmas Music by
Candlelight) and The Sixteen (O Guiding Night), O Adonai, et Dux
domus Israel is quickly becoming a popular choice for choirs
looking to develop their contemporary repertoire.
for SATB unaccompanied Let nothing trouble you is a striking and
atmospheric setting of a prayer by the Spanish mystic, St Teresa of
Avila. This work is both comforting and meditative, reflecting the
mood of the text, and the music adds a beautifully haunting
quality, through the use of a murmuring two-note motif, widely
arching melodies, and reflective imitation. Commissioned by The
Genesis Foundation for Harry Christophers and The Sixteen, this
piece has been recorded by them on the disc 'O Guiding Night'
(COR16090).
A fully illustrated catalogue of over 1000 Greek coins in the
collection of the Newcastle Society of Antiquaries, this
publication offers within a single volume a remarkably full survey
of the broad sweep of Greek coinage. The particularly rich
collection held at Newcastle contains a number of important and
rare coins, drawn from all areas of the Greek world, from Spain,
Numidia and Carthage in the West to Greece, Asia Minor and the
Levant in the East.
The Newcastle collection has its origins in the exceptional group
of Greek coins presented to the Society in 1852 by Algernon, 4th
Duke of Northumberland. The collection was further augmented in
1932 through the bequest of Mrs E. F. Streatfeild.
An important work of reference, this volume will be of interest to
numismatists, coin collectors, and scholars and students of the
archaeology and history of the Greek world.
for SATB and piano O Guiding Night is a colourful and evocative
setting of the text 'The Dark Night' by 16th-century Spanish
mystic/poet St John of the Cross. Williams's setting really gets to
the heart of the words, conveying a range of emotions from hushed
excitement to joyous rapture. Sumptuous harmonies and a strong
sense of narrative are combined with charming piano interludes in
an almost rhapsodic work, which would stand out in any concert.
Suitable for SATB and piano, This up-tempo arrangement combines a
funky piano part with walking pizzicato bass, a strong tune, scat
vocal lines, and swing-band style vocal harmonies to make a
show-stopper.
