The book presents a broad view on the nature of intelligent decision-making which is characterized by the use of models and methods in the framework of decision support for management. Contributions to this volume dedicated to Paul StAhly on the occasion of his 65th birthday include theoretical research and applications in optimization, operations research as well as decision support and management systems.

The volume contains a selection of manuscripts of lectures presented at the International Symposi- um on Operations Research (SOR 96). The Symposium took place at the Technical University of Braunschweig, September 3-6, 1996. SOR 96 was organized under the auspices of the two German societies of Operations Research, Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Operations Research (DGOR) and Gesellschaft fur Mathematik, Okonomie and Operations Research (GMOOR) in cooperation with the Working Group Discrete Optimization of the IFIP (WG7.4). Since 1995, DGOR and GMOORjointly prepare the Symposium as a common annual conference. In particular, the annual general meetings of the DGOR, the GMOOR and the WG7.4 took place during the conference. The Symposi~m had 527 participants from 32 countries around the world, including 92 partici- pants from Eastern Europe. The Symposium obviously attracts an international audience of workers fully covering the broad spectrum of Operations Research and related areas in economics, mathema- tics and computer science. The importance of a highly interdisciplinary field as Operations Research is increasing owing to the growth in applications in related disciplines. Technological advances in computer science and algorithmic mathematics are crucial for attacking the great challenges waiting in the areas of applications of Operations Research effectively. As a participant of SOR 96 one could well observe the current pace of achievements. Many of these results are in these proceedings. The program consisted of two plenary, 17 semiplenary, and 335 contributed lectures in 18 sections.

This volume gives the proceedings of WG '90, the 16th in a series of workshops. The aim of the workshop series is to contribute to integration in computer science by applying graph-theoretic concepts. The workshops are unusual in that they combine theoretical aspects with practice and applications. The volume is organized into sections on: - Graph algorithms and complexity, - VLSI layout, - Multiprocessor systems and concurrency, - Computational geometry, - Graphs, languages and databases, - Graph grammars. The volume contains revised versions of nearly all the papers presented at the workshop. Several papers take the form of preliminary reports on ongoing research.

Dieses aus Anfangervorlesungen hervorgegangene Lehrbuch bringt zum ersten Mal alle geeigneten Ergebnisse und Herleitungen der Linearen Algebra in algorithmischer Form. Damit erfolgt die uberfallige Aktualisierung, die den Bedarf der Informatik und der Angewandten Mathematik berucksichtigt und die zu sinnvollem Computereinsatz durch die Studierenden fuhrt. Die reiche Strukturierung ermoglicht vielfaltige Ubungen und angeleitete Entdeckungen.

Das Buch bietet Mathematikern und Informatikern gleichermassen eine geeignete Einfuhrung in die Numerik, die den Anforderungen der gangigen Grundvorlesungen entspricht. Dabei ist es einerseits wesentliches Ziel, die Konstruktion von Algorithmen und deren computergerechte Umsetzung in Programme zu vermitteln. Andererseits wird durch die Stoffauswahl sichergestellt, dass sowohl Hauptfach- wie auch Nebenfachstudenten eine solide Basis auch fur weiterfuhrende Vorlesungen erhalten. Das Buch entstand auf der Grundlage von Vorlesungen, die an der Universitat Oldenburg gehalten wurden. Das Buch ist das erste einer Reihe, die sowohl von Mathematikern wie auch Informatikern herausgegeben wird und es sich zum Ziel gesetzt hat, der Neubewertung von Mathematik, gehalten in beiden Fachern, Rechnung zu tragen. Zum einen sollten Mathematiker mit besonderem Interesse fur die Anwendungen der Informatik ihr spezifisches Fachwissen einbringen. Zum anderen sollen Informatiker ihre Erfahrungen einfliessen lassen, die die Darstellung und Auswahl des Stoffes aus der Sicht der Informatik betreffen. Ganz bewusst ist dieses Buch wie auch die anderen Bande der Reihe von uberschaubarem Umfang - last not least mit dem Vorteil eines entsprechend gunstigen Ladenpreises.

Das Buch behandelt die Hauptthemen der Grundvorlesung "Analysis", wie sie vor allem fur Informatiker, aber auch fur Mathematiker und Physiker geeignet ist. Das Buch beruht auf Vorlesungen, die an der Universitat Oldenburg vom Autor gehalten wurden.
