The COVID-19 pandemic devastated the global economy and significantly disrupted numerous areas of economic activity. Only radical increase of efficiency and versatility of industrial production, with further limitation of human involvement, paralleled by the decrease of environmental burden, will enable us to cope with such challenges. We hope that the presented book provides input to the solution of at least some problems brought about by this challenge. This book includes the outcomes of the 59th Symposium "Modelowanie w Mechanice" (Engineering Modelling in Mechanics) held in Ustron from 22 February to 26 February 2020. This book presents an efficient and robust method of modelling the magnetostatic properties of different technical elements, especially thin layers for magnetic sensors. The solutions presented utilise the principles of the method of moments. However, the principles have been developed both from the point of view of physical analyses as well as from the point of view of numerical optimisation. To enable cost-efficient use of the solutions for commercial applications in industry, the proposed method was implemented as a code optimised for use in the open-source OCTAVE environment. The scripts can be also used with MATLAB software, which is more user friendly, especially for less experienced users.

The 2nd Annual 2016 International Workshop on Materials Science and Engineering (IWMSE 2016) was held in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China on August 12 - August 14, 2016. The main aim of IWMSE 2016 was to provide a platform for scientists and engineers, to get together to share their research findings, exchange ideas and identify the future directions of R&D in materials science.In this conference, we have received over 272 high-quality papers, however, only 160 articles are included in the proceedings, covering topics such as ceramics and glasses, amorphous materials, nanomaterials and thin layers, soft magnetic materials, biomaterials, polymers, photovoltaic materials, steels, tool materials, composites, as well as functional and smart materials.
