Variability in care in emergency surgery is well known,
particularly in abdominal surgery, and reducing it is fundamental
to improving outcomes. It is therefore vital to identify the
factors that are key to improving mortality and reducing
complications in various surgical emergencies. Under the leadership
of the World Society of Emergency Surgery, over 200 leading experts
in emergency surgery, critical care and surgical infections
established a template to help define and optimise emergency
surgery, particularly that relating to the abdomen. This book
refines this initial work, crystallising it into a meaningful
resource for practising surgeons and health care administrators
alike, and paving the way for advances in emergency surgery around
the globe. This book sets a benchmark for Emergency Surgery and is
a must read for those wanting their patients to do better.
At the height of a freak storm a 911 caller reports a murder at the
Ambrough Arms, NYC's new high-rise sliver. Chief of Detectives
Darrel Randsome, aware that his estranged daughter resides in the
Ambrough Arms, hurries to reach the scene. His progress is hampered
by streets awash with filthy water, the result of a month-long
sanitation workers' strike, that has plugged storm sewer drains
with garbage. Randsome and four Crime Scene Unit detectives find
more suspects than they bargained for in the high-rise sliver. The
investigation gets complicated when Randsome discovers the Ambrough
is owned by mobsters, and the DA is keeping twenty-four hour
surveillance on the mob boss in 7A. Criminals abound as Randsome
sifts though evidence. He struggles to do his job, but worries
about his daughter's safety .

A deluge of rain and a strange hitchhiker combine to transport
martial arts champion Noah King on a bizarre course to an alternate
world. Days whiz by in a fraction of a second when he enters a
mysterious fog. His passenger, Sylv, is not what she seems. She
admits to being a Tabizi, the instigator of his fog-encased journey
to World 5. She has chosen him to intervene in the anarchy of a
split world two hundred years in the future. Time reversal fails,
and Sylv is stranded with Noah. She deserts him in the forest, and
becomes known as Dark Seeress. Noah discovers he must fight the
anarchist leader in blood sport to survive. After he defeats his
opponent, an influential dwarf proclaims him the new king. Captive
women flee to the forest, where Sylv declares all women are under
her protection. Noah learns this world was split by quakes and
volcanic action that left a 100 meter high Great Wall circling the
globe. Cannibals roam the Wasteland on one side, preying on
refugees. War is imperative to keep the savages out of Noah's lush
green kingdom, but Sylv refuses to ally herself and the other women
with his forces.
