Even in higher education, the traditional perception of learning is
a face to face environment; while distance education is typically
thought of as its alternative. However, the continuous expansion of
technology has altered this point of view as a more flexible option
of education, not an alternative. Global Challenges and
Perspectives in Blended and Distance Learning highlights the
perspectives, challenges, and current practices within higher and
distance education around the world. This reference source brings
together a unique view of global research essential for academics,
managers and leaders, researchers, and practitioners for a timely
view of research themes in higher education and distance education.
In a contemporary media-rich society, distance education is
becoming increasingly indistinguishable from mainstream traditional
methods. Contemporary students, too, have greater need than ever
before for education that caters to their specific needs and hectic
schedules. Outlooks and Opportunities in Blended and Distance
Learning investigates the impact of the digital age on various
methods of distance education, such as e-learning, virtual
learning, online learning, and m-learning. Researchers, educators,
and students currently engaged in or looking to implement distance
education principles in their own practices will find a seminal
reference collection exploring new methods of offering flexibility,
accessibility, and freedom to students with a variety of
educational backgrounds, situations, and needs.
Hallie Cavanaugh's late father just left her millions of reasons to
stay away from Jim Lawson, deputy sheriff of Paradise, Idaho, and
the man who broke her heart fourteen years ago. Hallie has worked
hard for independence, but she can't dismiss a massive inheritance,
even if she has to follow her father's manipulative terms to get
it. How hard can it be to spend six months back in Paradise-and not
sleep with her old flame? Former Army Ranger Jim just wants to do
his job, raise his daughter...and resist the gorgeous, redheaded
reminder of his bad-boy past. Their one unforgettably hot night
together had major consequences, and now there's a fortune and a
family legacy at stake. But when Hallie is threatened amid a storm
of uncovered secrets and conflicted loyalties, protecting her
becomes more than a duty: it's a deeply personal fight Jim's heart
won't let him lose.
For many agricultural crops, bees play a vital role as pollinators,
and this book discusses the interplay among bees, agriculture, and
the environment. Although honey bees are well recognized as
pollinators, managed bumble bees and solitary bees are also
critical for the successful pollination of certain crops, while
wild bees provide a free service. As bees liberally pass pollen
from one plant to the next, they also impact the broader ecosystem,
and not always to the benefit of humankind. Bees can enhance the
unintentional spread of genes from genetically engineered plants,
and may increase the spread of invasive weeds. Conversely,
genetically engineered plants can impact pollinators, and invasive
weeds can supply new sources of food for these insects. Bees'
flower-visiting activities also can be exploited to help spread
biological control agents that control crop pests, and they are
important for native plant reproduction. Managing bees for
pollination is complex and the factors that must be taken into
consideration are treated here, including bee natural history,
physiology, pathology, and behavior. Furthermore, transporting bees
from native ranges to new areas for pollination services can be
controversial, and needs to be done only after assuring that it
will not disrupt various ecosystems. Even though bees are small,
unobtrusive creatures, they play large roles in the ecosystem. The
connection between bees and humankind also is symbolic of a broader
interconnection between humans and the natural world.

Sometimes you go looking for trouble. And sometimes, trouble finds
you. Alyssa Kincaid knows she needs to make some big changes. A
move to San Francisco is the first step. Now it's time to get
serious, and to get the rest of her life on track. If only her
messy life would cooperate. And if only it had Joe Hartman in it.
Joe knows one thing for sure: Making a move on his best friend's
little sister, the beloved youngest sibling in the closest thing to
a family he's got, would be asking for trouble. Unfortunately,
Alyssa always does seem to be asking for trouble. And it's getting
harder and harder for Joe to resist answering. Note: Despite the
fog, San Francisco does get pretty hot at times. If you prefer your
romance without steam, this may not be the book for you.
There's no place like home . . . For teacher Jenna McKnight,
nothing spells heartbreak like finding her husband with somebody
else--in her bed. It's clearly time to reinvent herself. A new
body, a new city, and a new job later, she's done just that. The
beautiful Auckland villa isn't really her home, though. Finn
Douglas and his kids aren't really her family, however much she
wishes they were. And playing house can be a dangerous game. Rugby
star Finn Douglas is just looking for a temporary nanny and
housekeeper. Not a girlfriend, and definitely not a wife. He can't
resist Jenna's cooking, it's true. Who knew he'd have so much
trouble resisting her? He wants to do what's right for his kids.
But waiting is so hard . . .
What if the person who broke your heart turned out to be the only
one who could mend it? Nic Wilkinson is a responsible, organized,
disciplined rugby player at the top of his game. Emma Martens is a
sometimes-scattered, often-emotional, and always-broke would-be
designer with a big chip on her shoulder where Nic's concerned.
They have no history together, except one perfect week. Nothing in
common anymore, except the most important thing of all. Getting
together again would be messy. Complicated. Scary. And, just maybe,
worth every risk.
When you wish upon a star . . . Alec Kincaid has never met the
obstacle he couldn't overcome--or the woman who could resist him.
And it's not going to happen now, not with his star shining more
brightly than ever in the high-stakes arena of San Francisco's
software industry. Desiree Harlin doesn't believe in fairy tales,
and she doesn't waste time wishing. She's learned the hard way that
dreams don't come true. And with her reputation and hard-won
security on the line, succumbing to temptation isn't an option. But
things aren't always what they seem. And even stars sometimes fall.
Note: Despite the fog, San Francisco does get hot at times. If you
prefer your romance without steam, you may want to visit a
different city . . . er, book.
By the bestselling author of the Escape to New Zealand series--
They're going to party like it's 1885. Mira Walker is hoping that
competing on a "living history" reality show will give her what's
missing from her real life. Maybe she'll get closer to her
boyfriend, who hasn't been all that nice to her lately. Get fired
up about her job again. Who knows, she might even win a million
dollars. Gabe Kincaid and his brother Alec are after that million
too, though. Mira and Scott are no threat at all, not when
everybody involved is going to want to kill Scott after the first
day. And there's no bond stronger than a twin's. What could
possibly go wrong? Note: Despite the TV cameras, things do heat up
a bit in the Idaho summer. If you prefer your romances less than
steamy, this may not be the book for you.
A little distraction can be a wonderful thing. Nate Torrance has a
job to do, and the biggest rugby boots in the world to fill. He
can't afford to lose his focus, especially not to a brown-eyed
Canadian who pushes all his buttons and looks much too good in a
climbing harness. Allison Villiers may not know what she wants to
do with her life, but she's clear about one thing. She's not
impressed by the new captain of the All Blacks, however big a deal
he is to the rest of New Zealand. If only her unfortunate taste for
adventure didn't keep leading her astray . . . Note: This romance,
like New Zealand, contains a bit of steam. If that isn't your
cuppa, you may want to visit some other country . . . er, book.
Some bets were made to be lost. Kate Lamonica isn't Koti James's
type. Too small. Too dark. And heaps too much work. So it's an easy
bet that he can be her friend for six weeks without making a move
on her, no matter what his mates would have said. Kate can't
believe she's made the bet at all. New Zealand had seemed like the
perfect escape from the stalker who'd threatened first her peace of
mind, and then her life. She certainly doesn't need any more
trouble. Why on earth has she agreed to spend time with a Maori
rugby player who's far too handsome and charming for his own
good--and knows it? But there's more than one game Koti's good at
playing...
Everyone needs to be rescued sometimes. Everyone but Hannah
Montgomery, that is. She just needs a vacation. Three weeks in New
Zealand to sort out her life, figure out what she wants, seems just
right. Oh, and to relax. She should definitely put that on the
agenda. She certainly isn't looking for a fling with a professional
rugby player, no matter how attractive he is. Hannah doesn't do
casual. But maybe just this once. . . Drew Callahan is happy to
help Hannah find all the fun she's been missing. But as much as
he's shared with her, he's kept one very big secret. And learning
the truth, now that she's back home again, has made Hannah more
wary than ever. Drew knows that she's right for him. But how can he
convince her to let down her guard enough to explore what they
could have together?
