However, the learner mishears some of the details and many strange rumours start circulating through the school. In 'The bully ate my polony' Bullies keep on taking a girl's polony sandwiches. After she puts dead ants on the sandwiches to make them taste bad, the bullies stop stealing her sandwiches.
In 'The emperor's new clothes' two men pretend to be tailors selling the finest cloth. They tell the emperor that only clever people can see the cloth. He orders an outfit to be made in the cloth. He can't see it, but he doesn't want people to think he is stupid, so he pretends to be able to see it. The emperor parades in his new, non-existent outfit, and the adults in the audience also pretend to be able to see it. But then a young boy says that the emperor is naked, and everyone starts laughing at the naked emperor. In 'The Musicians of Bremen' a collection of unwanted animals decides to form a band and seek a new life in the town of Bremen. On the way there they see thieves in a house. They chase the thieves out the house and make it their new home.
This rhyming story is about a family and the places that they like to be, from their house under an apple tree to the dam where Dad goes fishing.
This story is based on the well-known song 'There were ten in the bed', which is about subtracting numbers. There are some people in a bed. Each time the people in the bed turn over, one person falls out.
The farmer owes 500 rupees to the moneylender, because his great-grandfather borrowed 50 rupees and this amount has grown with interest over the years. He walks with the rich, patronising trader to the moneylender. They tell each other stories, and then the farmer tricks the trader into paying his debt to the moneylender. The trader develops a grudging respect for the farmer.
