He visits and works with friends who are vets and does veterinary procedures with these experienced specialised vets on site, wherever that may be.
They work in the sophistication of an urban small animal hospital or they work by setting up an operating theatre in the wild African bush.
Join Dr Roy on his adventures in the African bush where you will meet Jabu the elephant, Munwane, the rhino or travel to Cape Town to meet Gulliver the Border Collie of Chloe the Bulldog.
Dr Roy Aronson is a vet in private practice who has kept a diary of his adventures over the last few years.
This diary has evolved into this book that we hope you will enjoy
Well-loved vet Dr Roy Aronson shares some of his weirdest and most
wonderful experiences with domestic pets and wild animals. From
treating a rhino that ran head first into a zoo wall to
sidestepping the fierce fangs of a so-called wolf dog, he remains
committed to healing his patients. He relies on years of
experience, gut instinct and when necessary, he'll even call in the
help of medical doctors.
NOTHING AT ALL.Then, suddenly, he receives an email from his father beseeching him to come to Nelspruit because “their lives are in danger”.Jamie makes the journey north to discover that there is African magic afoot. A curse was placed on the males of his family over two hundred years ago.
His father is about to die soon, and only he, Jamie, may be able to save him.He meets Lexi, the wildlife vet, her sister, the beautiful Samantha, whose father, Gareth, is the ranger on Ngonyama Game Reserve. He rekindles an old friendship with Siyabelo his childhood friend and meets Kubukele, an African Sangoma, and Siyabelo’s grandfather.Jamie, and his friends embark on a mission to liberate his family from the curse.Along the way they have adventures with African wildlife and all the while Jamie is immersed deeper and deeper in African mysticism, animal, and ancestral communications.
He discovers that there are malevolent spirits determined to harm him and he discovers that he has mystical magical powers, and over time he learns to harness these powers to his benefit. Can he discover what the “symbols” are in time to release his family from the curse and to save his father and in due course himself?Against a backdrop of the African bush and African mysticism Jamie James races against the clock to try and save his father from a fate that is two hundred years in the making.
His dad has invited him back to Ngonyama, near Nelspruit, for the spring break in September, and although his mom is against the trip, he goes to spend two weeks working at his dad’s wildlife veterinary practice. He reconnects with his childhood friend Siyabelo, his sangoma mentor Kubukele, and of course Samantha, the beautiful girl who has stolen his heart. Working with Kubukele he discovers that he possesses new powers, and with training and practice he attempts to become proficient in using them.
There are poachers active in the area. They have been killing rhino and hacking the horns off. They have roamed the area for over a year now and their modus operandi indicates that the same group has now shot and killed dozens of rhinos.Jamie, Kubukele and Meshach Radebe, a ranger from the Parks board who heads the anti-poaching unit, hatch a plan that is both daring and dangerous. Their mission, to stop the poachers from killing more rhino, and to protect Amandla, the giant ancestral rhino, the Horn of Africa.
And if possible, to catch the poachers.
They are aware of the dangers. The poachers shoot to kill and are very good at doing just that. The poachers must be stopped, and Amandla must be protected at all costs. Can Jamie and his friends succeed? What no-one has taken into consideration is Amandla, the Ancestral Rhino and the Horn of Africa. The wild card in the equation. A huge surprise awaits them all in the final climax as the forces of good and evil battle for supremacy in the heart of the African bush.
The heart-wrenching and adventure-filled stories of a South African
wild animal vet and his colleagues When do you watch a wild animal
suffer and let nature take its course, and when do you intervene?
In his more than twenty-five years as an African vet, Dr. Roy
Aronson has seen and done some remarkable things. He has tracked
lions and cheetahs, anesthetized rhinoceroses and king cobras,
collared rogue elephants, performed eye surgery on a lion out in
the bush, been attacked by a puff adder, come face to face with an
angry hybrid wolf, and nearly lost a foot to a crocodile. Dr.
Aronson has also worked with some of Africa's most dedicated
conservationists and wildlife veterinarians. He has witnessed their
passion and bravery and been with them when hard decisions had to
be made. "Tales of an African Vet" brings together Dr. Aronson's
adventures in a rare behind-the-scenes look at those who treat wild
animals in their natural habitat. For those drawn to outdoor
adventure stories, African wildlife, or the veterinarian's trade,
it is a riveting book replete with rich insights into both the
animal and human cultures of Africa.
